U21 Hurling
Well done to our U21 hurlers who defeated Roscrea on Sunday by 3 points, 19 points to 16. The boys led from start to finish but were pressed all the way by a strong Roscrea team. Jamie Cottrell was our leading scorer with 7 points with the impressive O’Farrell brothers scoring 5 from play between them.
This win means that the boys have topped the group and now play Kiladangan in the semi final – this game is due to be played next Sunday at 2pm in MacDonagh Park. Laochra Gael
Congratulations to Tony Tierney who is one the 26 people who will be honoured with a Laochra Gael GAA award on Sunday next in the Dome in Thurles. These awards are presented to honour people over the age of 70 who have given significant service to the GAA in various capacities.
Tony played for many years with Nenagh Éire Óg and was part of both the 1957 and 1964 teams who won North senior championships. He went on to be a selector and coach to teams when his playing days were over.
We wish Tony and his family every good wish on the day.
Development Update
The preparatory work is now completed on the new field. This has included the removal of all trees and shrubs, the crushing of all the concrete paths and the recovery of all the service ducting and all the electric lamp posts.
While the original intention was to have the field prepared and sown by the latest the end of September, this unfortunately did not happen with the recent wet weather intervening. The site is now closed until early spring 2023 when hopefully this phase of the develpment will be completed.
We are asking that those who still intend to financially support this phase of the project by joining our Membership programme do so as soon as possible by contacting any club officer or committee member for more information. Donations can also be made electronically – bank details below.
Please be sure to include your details if transferring money to this dedicated fundraising account and notify Anne Kennedy or John Tooher to advise of the transfer in order for receipts and membership data to be updated.

JUVENILE NEWS
Nenagh Éire Óg together with Albany Home Decor & A Sportsmans Dream were very proud and delighted to have the 5 local schools attend McDonagh Park last week in the glorious sunshine to play in the 2022 Nenagh Parish Schools Football Blitz. 160 children graced the field and had a wonderful morning of football and fun. Children got to make new friends and indeed have some friendly rivalry with their school pals as pupils were mixed across the teams. Sincere thanks to Tom Gleeson, Shane Hennessy, Pat McCormack & the great John Kennedy for all of the organising. This event was such a success that plans are afoot for a similar Blitz in early 2023 so keep practicing everyone.

U21 Hurling
Well done to our U21 hurlers who defeated Toomevara in Round One of the championship on Sunday last in MacDonagh Park. Trailing by 4 points at half time after playing against the strong breeze, the boys grabbed the initiative straight from the restart and had the game level by the second minute scoring a goal and a point – the goal coming from Ben West. While it continued to be a close contest for most of the second half, Ben West’s second goal midway through the half put a bit of daylight between the sides and the lads ran out winners by 4 points – final score was 2 – 13 to 15 points.
Round 2 is due to be played next weekend, we have a bye in this- we will then play Roscrea in Round 3 which is due to be played on 20th Nov.

Co Final Jubilee Team
Delayed by two years because of Covid, the Nenagh Éire Óg Co Champions of 1995 eventually had their day in Semple Stadium last Sunday when they were honoured by the Tipperary Co Board on Co Final Day.
Events started with a reception in the Dome and continued on with the players and management team taking to the field to be introduced to the crowd between games. Later that evening proceedings continued in the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh where a special function to mark the occasion was organised by the Co Board for the group, their partners and officers of the club. Here each panel member was presented with a framed photograph of the group taken earlier in the day in Semple Stadium, a lovely momento of the day.
Our thanks to Tipperary Co Board for facilitating this special occasion – it was great that all involved could get together to remember the great days of 1995.
Photo shows the players from 1995 and the management team of Pat Joe Whelahan, Liam Heffernan and Billy Flannery. The group were also delighted to be joined on the day by Frances Daly, the team’s physio in 1995.

Condolences
We extend our sympathies to the family of Martin O’Meara who passed away earlier this week. Martin, originally from Tyone and living in Naas the last number of years, hurled at all levels with Nenagh Éire Óg. He won many titles with the club at juvenile level but the highlight of his playing days was undoubtedly the winning of a Co minor hurling title in 1969, a first for the club. He went on to hurl throughout the 70s at senior level and retired from hurling in the early 80s. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Under 9
The boys concluded a fantastic season with great fun and excitement over in Nenagh College last Saturday morning, very well deserved after a great year. This group will now take a break from training for a while until the New Year and recharge the batteries. Any of the boys born in 2013 will move up to the U11 grade when we return next year, those born in 2014 will remain at the U9 grade.
Overall it has been a really positive year, they are a really great bunch who are a pleasure to coach. We hope that over the coming years that every one of the boys will remain with us through all various age groups up along, each achieve their individual potential and eventually line out with our adult teams for many years to come.
It is really important that the boys remain active over the winter months, please encourage a little bit of hurling and Gaelic practice over the winter months too, it all helps!
Finally, thanks to you as parents for your encouragement, bringing the boys to training and to matches from Templemore to Limerick and everywhere in between! It is much appreciated and vital in helping to improve and develop the boys into achieving their potential.
A final word of thanks to Cathal Farrell, Erica Flanagan and their wonderful coaching team whom were tremendous in their organisation, coaching and developing these young stars, sincere thank you to all who helped out in any way during the season.

Our membership packages are still open and we thank everyone who has contributed to this to date. If you would like to avail of any of these packages, please contact any club officer or committee member for more information. Donations can also be made electronically – bank details available from Anne Kennedy & John Tooher. Please be sure to include your details if transferring money to this dedicated fundraising account.

U6s who finished for the season last week.
Condolences
All in Nenagh Éire Óg were saddened to hear of the untimely passing of John Tucker last week. John, or Nudie as he was better known, was a talented hurler and footballer and played hurling and football at every level with Nenagh Éire Og. He was part of one of the most successful juvenile teams in the club, a group who won North and County hurling medals at U14, U16 and minor and North and County Football titles at U16 and minor. At adult level, Nudie won U21 North and County titles in 1993 and was also on the senior panel in 1992 & 1993 who won back to back North titles. In all the successes, the standout was undoubtedly the winning of back to back North and County minor hurling titles in 1991 and 1992 – it was fitting then that this group provided the Guard of Honour at John’s funeral over the weekend. To John’s sister Paula, brothers Eddie, David and Kevin and the extended Tucker family we offer our deepest sympathies. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Our minor team retained the North Minor title last Monday night week beating Roscrea by 1-15 to 3-04. Played on a damp evening in Dolla, Nenagh controlled the game for long spells but never quite put enough daylight between themselves and their opponents. An early goal chance for Zac Keller hit the upright but points from play and frees gave us a good foothold in the game. Jake Houlihan followed through on a high ball, batting it into the net to open a gap before half time. Roscrea scored two goals in the second half but each time Nenagh responded with points to counteract. Our goalkeeper and all backs played exceptionally well as a unit while midfield held the upper hand. Up front the dominance of the forwards was not reflected in the score line, the subs introduced made notable impacts. This team now rolls onto a Co Quarter Final against Knockavilla Kickhams next weekend, Knockavilla narrowly lost the West division final to Golden Kilfeackle. U17 training continues every Monday and Wednesday at 6.50 pm unless there is a match.
Happy faces all round following the win over Roscrea in the Minor Final last week.
