Ger Gavin Memorial Tournament
The inaugural Ger Gavin Memorial Tournament took place on Saturday last in MacDonagh Park and proved to be a great success. O’Loughlin Gaels won out on the day, just pipping Clooney Quinn in the winner takes all final round. This was a great afternoon of hurling and our thanks to Moycarkey Borris, O’Loughlin Gaels, Clooney Quinn and our own U21 squad for making this happen.
Nenagh Éire Óg, Moycarkey Borris, Clooney Quinn and O’Loughlin Gaels U21 squads who took part in the Ger Gavin Memorial Tournament last Saturday. In the centre is Gerry Gavin with the Ger Gavin Memorial Trophy.
Following the hurling, teams and supporters gathered in the hall where Club Chairman John Tooher spoke of the high regard people all over the GAA had for the late Ger Gavin and how he is sorely missed throughout the GAA Community. Gerry Gavin, on behalf of the Gavin family, thanked all who made this day possible before presenting the trophy to the O’Loughlin Gaels captain.
We would like to thank the Gavin family for their support in organising this tournament and to everyone who helped out to make this the successful and special day it was, a fitting tribute to Ger who worked tirelessly for Nenagh Éire Óg.

U6s who finished for the season last week.
Condolences
All in Nenagh Éire Óg were saddened to hear of the untimely passing of John Tucker last week. John, or Nudie as he was better known, was a talented hurler and footballer and played hurling and football at every level with Nenagh Éire Og. He was part of one of the most successful juvenile teams in the club, a group who won North and County hurling medals at U14, U16 and minor and North and County Football titles at U16 and minor. At adult level, Nudie won U21 North and County titles in 1993 and was also on the senior panel in 1992 & 1993 who won back to back North titles. In all the successes, the standout was undoubtedly the winning of back to back North and County minor hurling titles in 1991 and 1992 – it was fitting then that this group provided the Guard of Honour at John’s funeral over the weekend. To John’s sister Paula, brothers Eddie, David and Kevin and the extended Tucker family we offer our deepest sympathies. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Our minor team retained the North Minor title last Monday night week beating Roscrea by 1-15 to 3-04. Played on a damp evening in Dolla, Nenagh controlled the game for long spells but never quite put enough daylight between themselves and their opponents. An early goal chance for Zac Keller hit the upright but points from play and frees gave us a good foothold in the game. Jake Houlihan followed through on a high ball, batting it into the net to open a gap before half time. Roscrea scored two goals in the second half but each time Nenagh responded with points to counteract. Our goalkeeper and all backs played exceptionally well as a unit while midfield held the upper hand. Up front the dominance of the forwards was not reflected in the score line, the subs introduced made notable impacts. This team now rolls onto a Co Quarter Final against Knockavilla Kickhams next weekend, Knockavilla narrowly lost the West division final to Golden Kilfeackle. U17 training continues every Monday and Wednesday at 6.50 pm unless there is a match.
Happy faces all round following the win over Roscrea in the Minor Final last week.

Our Under 13A panel were out against Kilruane in Dolla last week in the North Semi Final and what a battle it was with the game going to extra time to decide the winner. Despite a heroic effort from our boys it wasn’t to be and that ended the 2022 season for this group. Best wishes to Kilruane in the rest of the competition.
Our Under 13C panel played Shannon Rovers last week in their North Semi Final and despite being well behind at half time our boys rallied fiercely in the second half to bring the margin back to just two points but in the end Shannon Rovers were more clinical in front of goal and took the spoils. Best wishes to Shannon Rovers in the remainder of the competition.
Thanks to the boys and their parents from both groups for all of their commitment and continued support since last November. Thanks to the Under 13 management group for their time and running of these two groups this season. Final training Friday at 6.30, it will be a fun session to close.

Under 17
Following a great victory over Toomevara in the North semi-final last Monday week, our boys faced Roscrea in the North final on Monday evening in Dolla. In what turned out to be a very competitive and hard fought final, the Nenagh boys came out on top on a scoreline of 1 – 15 to 3 – 4 , Jake Houlihan getting the Nenagh goal. Roscrea pushed the boys all the way but the Nenagh lads held their nerve and were always able to respond to the Roscrea scores.
Well done to all players and management team on this fine victory. A delighted Sam O’Farrell accepted the cup on behalf of his teammates from Joe McCarthy from the North Board. The boys now move onto the Co Quarter Final against the West champions (Knockavilla or Golden), this game will take place in the coming weeks.
U17 training continues every Monday and Wednesday at 6.50pm unless there is a match.
A very happy group following the North Final win on Monday evening.

Two teams from our Under 11 hurlers travelled down to Cork last Saturday to play in the Dermot Naughton Tournament in Newtownshandrum. Four clubs were involved, the hosts, Nenagh Éire Óg, Michael Cusack’s of Galway and Sixmilebridge of Clare. There was a great standard of hurling on show. Each club had two even teams. Newtownshandrum won the cup for the first time and Michael Cusack’s the shield. While the boys didn’t bring home any silverware they played their hearts out winning and losing with both teams playing four matches over the day. One team finished second in their group and the other third. Our thanks to the hosts for inviting us and to all the parents for travelling to support the boys. Next week the boys travel to Kilkenny to play O’Loughlin Gaels.

Seniors
Our Seniors faced the challenge of Annacarty at home on Saturday in the Senior Championship. It was a very close game with point for point by each team in the first half and Annacarty just ahead on 8 points to 7 at halftime.
The second half saw Annacarty pull away by 6 points but Nenagh fought back to level the game. A great tally from Grace O’Brien who scored 1.08 and points from Zoey Gratton,
Kerrie Howard, Caroline Browne, and Michelle Collins showed the potential this young Nenagh team has.
The final score was 1.12 to 1.12.

Minors
It was a case of “what might have been” for our minors who bowed out of the minor championship on Thursday evening in Gortnahoe. The girls made a great start, scoring 1-3 in the first 15 minutes. However, the scores dried up for Nenagh thereafter while Gortnahoe took their opportunities, going on to win by 4 points.
The management team would like to thank all the girls for their efforts over the past few weeks. After a couple of years with no minor team, it was important for the club to field a team again and the girls did us proud.
Well done to Laura Nagle who finished up her season with the Tipperary U16B team with a match against Cork at the weekend.

Our Under 13 A and C panels both played Newport in Newport last week and both teams came away with well fought wins. Following a great second half performance, the C panel lost out to Ballinahinch in a hard fought game on Monday evening, they now have a bye into the quarter final where they play the losers of Newport and Templederry on August 31st.
The A panel will play Roscrea this evening, Tuesday August 23rd, in a preliminary quarter final game. Training continues on Wednesday and Friday at 6.30.
Under 15
Our Under 15s played Lorrha Rovers Gaels on Thursday evening in Lorrha, after a stern test Nenagh managed to come out on top. Next match is against Newport on this Thursday at 7pm in Newport. Training continues Tuesday and Thursday from 7-8 p.m.
Under 17
Our Under 17 hurlers had a great outing last Monday night against Ballina. Ballina started brighter and for much of the first half dictated the game. Nenagh Éire Óg backs and goalkeeper were resolute and managed to prevent Ballina racing into a bigger lead than they had at half time. By midway through the second half, the boys drew level. Heading into injury time Ballina led by two points but Nenagh Éire Óg were awarded a last minute free, Tipperary county minor captain Sam O’Farrell stepped up and rifled it to the back of the net. With time just up, a one point victory was a very satisfactory outcome to an entertaining match. We have now drawn Newport in the quarter final to be played on Wednesday 31st Aug in Ballina. U17 training continues every Monday and Wednesday at 6.50 pm unless there is a match.

Under 19
Our Under 19 hurlers bowed out of the championship on Wednesday evening last against a very strong Roscrea side. With only one player up to the age, Éire Óg fielded ten under 17’s in the starting lineup. In the first half of the match, these young players showed their metal and matched their older opponents in all areas of the field. When Roscrea did take a slight lead they were reined back by a well worked Nenagh goal. The start of the second half continued in the same vein as the first but gradually Roscrea began to dominate the game. Nevertheless this young Éire Óg side fought to the final whistle and despite a comfortable win by Roscrea this Nenagh team can be very proud of this performance which will stand to them in the Under 17 championship. We would like to thank the players and management for their dedication this year.
Condolences
We extend our sympathies to the family of William Fogarty who sadly passed away last week. William was a great supporter of Nenagh Éire Óg and regularly attended our games. His daughter Mary Jo has been involved in various roles in the club over the past number of years, his grandson Ben is a member of the senior panel while his brother John is a valued worker in MacDonagh Park. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Nenagh Éire Óg Gaelic Games Youth Academy Summer camp
The Nenagh Éire Óg Gaelic Games Academy sponsored by Albany Home & Decor and A Sportsman’s Dream Gaelic Games Summer camp was held last week and it was a tremendous success with close to 100 children attending over the sun drenched few days. The coaching team in place were a real dream team with the children coming away from each day delighted with the camp. Thanks to Niall for organising the camp, to Pat for leading the event over the three days, to our county stars Sam O’Farrell, Grace O’Brien and Jake Morris for their support and time at the camp and to all the many brilliant coaches and helpers who made the camp the great event it was. Everyone at the camp also came together to wish Barry Heffernan a full recovery and we look forward to seeing him back in action for Nenagh Éire Óg and Tipperary.
