The U13s had a busy week with 28 of our panel of 44 playing in North finals against Newport and Portroe. The rest of the panel play Ballina this coming Wednesday in the U13D final. The C panel came into the final after four great wins but came up against an excellent Portroe team. Some of the points kicked by Portroe were amongst the best we had seen in the U13 competition. Our boys battled to the end and never gave in.
The A panel had a great battle with Newport. Newport had given the boys a lesson in football in the group stages. Newport scored a goal in injury time to level the game for the first time but the boys responded brilliantly to kick a late point to snatch the win.

Best of luck to the girls starting their season with a blitz Wednesday evening in Borrisoleigh.
Training continues Monday at 6pm.
Under 12
We had a busy week playing our first games of the season. On Wednesday we hosted Silvermines for a challenge game and Saturday we played the county blitz in Borrisoleigh.
We played against Thurles, Borrisoleigh, Ballina and Silvermines in some terrible conditions.
The girls played very well against the Silvermines and showed great heart and determination in all four games. Well done to all, training continues Wednesday at 6pm.
Under 12 group who played Silvermines last Wed evening.
Under 14
We had a good weekend winning two of two games.
First up on Saturday evening Team 2 hosted Rockwell Rovers. The girls went straight at it from the start, knocking in 6-1 in the first half. Playing against the wind in the second half and with one player less, the remaining girls put in the hard work to see us home leaving the final scoreboard Nenagh Éire Óg 8-3 Rockwell Rovers 1-4. Captain for the day was Brooke McCarthy.
On Sunday evening, our first team played a strong Shannon Rovers team in MacDonagh Park. Much like the second team, the girls attacked straight from the start. A hattrick from Lauren Grace meant we went in 4-3 to 0-3 up. Rovers got their game going in the second half and staged a great comeback, narrowing the gap to 2 points, but some fine points from Grace Cleary saw us home with the final score Nenagh Éire Óg 5-5 Shannon Rovers 3-6. Well done to both teams. Training continues Monday and Thursday 7-8pm.
Under 16
The U16 girls hosted Toomevara in MacDonagh Park on Tuesday evening in the first game of the League. The girls ran out winners on a scoreline of 3 – 8 to 0 – 1 – well done girls.
Senior
We hosted Annacarty Sunday in Nenagh in the league. We fielded a very young team and great credit must go to our players who worked very hard throughout. Unfortunately Annacarty proved too strong, running out clear winners.
Our next match is away to Silvermines next Friday at 6:30pm.
Our senior girls in action against Annacarthy last Sunday in MacDonagh Park.
Tipperary Primary Games
Congratulations to Nenagh Éire Ógs own Sailí Ní Chonchúir who has been selected on the Tipperary Primary Games Team representing Gaelscoil Aonach Urmhumhan. Amazing Achievement Sailí and well-deserved!

Ger McCarthy RIP
All in Nenagh Éire Óg were truly shocked and saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Ger McCarthy at the weekend.
Ger was a lifelong and passionate supporter of Nenagh Éire Óg – he hurled with the club in his younger years, notably winning North and County U16 titles in 1979. Over the past number of years Ger got involved as mentor and manager with both juvenile and adult teams, successes here included guiding the U16s in 2017 and Juniors in 2021 to North hurling titles. He also had the role of Registrar with the Juvenile Committee for a number of years and was a tireless worker on that Committee for many years. Ger was especially proud when son Conor won U20 Munster and All Ireland titles with Tipperary in 2019 and this year when he was called up to the Tipperary senior panel. A minutes silence was observed before the League semi final last Saturday evening in Ger’s memory.
Above – Ger with 2017 U16 North Final winning group.
Below(left) – Ger (Manager) with Junior mentors following the North win in 2021 and (right) 3 proud fathers with their sons following the North senior final win in 2022.
Players, club officials and supporters all gathered to provide a Gurad of Honour following Ger’s funeral mass on Tuesday – the large crowd in attendance was a fitting testament to the popularity of Ger and the respect all in the club had for him. We in Nenagh Éire Óg have undoubtedly lost a great clubman and Ger’s passion and enthusiasm for the club will be sadly missed by all.
To his wife Annette, daughter Laura, son Conor, father Jimmy, sisters, brother and the extended McCarthy and Moloney families we offer our deepest sympathies.

We played our first match of the year on St Patrick’s day in Nenagh against Knockavilla in the league.

Great credit is due to both teams. We have a bye next weekend and our next match is away to Annacarty.

Under 10
Training is back on the Club Astro at 6pm each Monday, new members are always welcome.
Under 14
Both of our under 14 teams began their respective championships with losses.
Our first team travelled to Boherlahan on Saturday where we came up against a very strong and skilful home side. Our girls battled all the way through but came away with a heavy defeat.
Team 2 made a very long trip to Ballylooby to play Brian Borus on Saturday evening. This is a young team who were facing much bigger opposition, but they didn’t take a backward step, blocking and tackling like demons. Borus were the stronger team however and took their scores well to run out easy winners.
Under 14 – Team 2 – Brian Boru Ballylooby
Both teams play next Sunday 19th. Team 2 are away to Holycross at 2pm, while Team 1 are at home to Slieve Felim at 5pm.
Training continues on Monday and Thursday 7-8pm.
