Intercounty success for Grace, Jake and Barry, meet our new S&C coach while there is information regarding future age grades at underage. All of this and more in this week’s news on the Blues
Tipperary
Congratulations to Jake, Barry and the Tipperary senior hurlers who defeated Cork in LIT Gaelic Grounds on Saturday afternoon, 2-18 to 1-17, with Jake Morris grabbing the all-important goal with minutes remaining to secure the win. Tipperary now advance to play in the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

We also want to wish the Tipperary senior footballers the very best of luck next weekend in the Munster final against Cork. This fixture has the added significance of occurring on the 100th anniversary of Bloody Sunday when British authorities attacked Croke Park resulting in the deaths of fourteen people including Tipperary men Daniel Carroll, James Teehan and player Michael Hogan. Hopefully, they will be directing proceedings from above and helping captain Conor Sweeney bring the Munster trophy home for the first time since 1935.
On 21 November 1920, 14 people went to a match in Croke park. They never came home.

Sympathies
The club would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the late Bernie Morris (nee Ryan) who passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Morris’ husband Con has been a loyal supporter of the club having played hurling and Gaelic football for Nenagh for many years before moving onto a successful coaching career with numerous underage teams. Her son Cian played for the club while her daughter Danielle has always been a great supporter while her granddaughter Keevah is a top underage camogie player.
To her husband Con, son Cian, daughter Danielle, her brother and sisters, grandchildren and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and wide circle of friends, we offer our sincerest condolences.

Age Grades
Following a mixture of confusion and misinformation, the Officers of Choiste Chontae Thiobraid Árann would like to clarify that it is now mandatory, following Central Council Policy ruling, that from January 2021 Tipperary must operate U-13, U-15 and U-17 grades.
We have discretion above Under 17 and below Adult so Co Convention will only decide if we play U19, U20 or U21.
The following is the age-grade policy clarification we received from Croke Park this week;
Developmental Age Grades
All age grades up to and including U-17 are considered developmental
Within this range Association Policy is that counties shall operate U-13, U-15 and U-17 age grades as a minimum requirement.
Counties may, in addition, opt to play at U-12, U-14, and U-16;
Counties who wish to play these additional age-grades may do so in consultation with Central Games Development Committee
Age Grades above U-17
Counties are expected to operate at least one age grade above U-17 and below adult; that age grade(s) can be determined by the county in consultation with Central Games Development Committee
As indicated GDC are authorised to sanction U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-18 only in addition to U-13, U-15 and U-17
I hope this clears up the confusion and Divisional and County Coiste na nÓg’s can now go ahead and draw up their Fixture Programmes based on above.
The email below from the Ard Stiúrthóir confirms the age grades to be applied.

A chara,
In response to a number of requests from Counties for direction, and following the reinforcement of eligibility for the Adult grade as 17 years of age at Congress 2019, Central Council, by way of adoption to the Talent Academy Report at its meeting on 29th June, confirms standard club age grades for child and youth players to be applied, as policy, in 2020 as follows:
Under 17 – A player shall have celebrated his 13th birthday prior to January 1st and his 17th birthday on or after January 1st of the Championship Year.
Under 15 – A player shall have celebrated his 11th birthday prior to January 1st and his 15th birthday on or after January 1st of the Championship Year.
Under 13 – A player shall have celebrated his 9th birthday prior to January 1st and his 13th birthday on or after January 1st of the Championship Year.
Note: In addition, further optional club grades are permitted at U-14, U-16, U-18, U-21, counties are required to seek approval of Central Council in these instances.
Is mise le meas,

One of the greatest club members of all time, Ger Gavin, is going to keep himself busy during the lockdown with outstanding books written by two superb local writers Damien Lawlor (Kilruane MacDonaghs) and Shane Brophy (Lorrha & Dorrha). Damien’s book, When the World Stops Watching, focuses on the experiences of sportspeople after they finish their sporting careers while Shane’s book, Chiselled from Ash, is the autobiography of hurling legend Len Gaynor. Another great sportsbook recently published is Game of my Life by Tipp FM commentator Stephen Gleeson. Here Stephen chats to 35 Tipperary players, from Theo English to Michael Cleary, about the greatest game they played in.

Notice Regarding Training
Following this week’s government Covid 19 announcement regarding stricter guidelines it was incumbent on the Club Senior, Juvenile and Camogie Officers to discuss our next steps to ensure all our members’ safety.
Our unanimous decision is that all junior or minor squad training in any format is to be put on hold and we will review future operations on a weekly basis.
Juvenile training can continue but on the strict condition that all GAA and government guidelines are rigidly adhered to.
Any breach by any squad will result in a total training lockdown for all squads.
While we recognise this will have an impact on all individuals, the health and safety on the wider front is our main priority. We deem the risk to continue in our present format is far too great.
By following these guidelines it will help us protect ourselves from the very serious impact of the COVID-19 virus.
Thanking you all in anticipation of your full cooperation.

Chairman.

Updated Advice to Clubs and Counties – Oct 7th 2020
Following confirmation that all 26 Counties will move to Level 3 of the Irish Government’s Plan for Living with Covid 19, the GAA’s Covid Advisory group has issued the following key updates for those involved in Gaelic Games in the 26 Counties. The Executive in the North is due to meet later this week and it is anticipated that further restrictions may be imposed due to the rising infection levels in the six counties.
CLUB SPECIFIC GUIDELINES
1. Club Games
The GAA, Camogie and LGFA have taken the decision that no club games should take place until further notice and for at least the next two weekends.
This position will then be reviewed and we will contact Clubs and Counties with any update on this position when it is available.
2. Club Training
In level 3, all underage training must be on a non-contact basis in pods of up to 15. Adult teams can continue to train as normal.
All clubs and players are reminded that Health Questionnaires and all other relevant control measures must continue to be followed for club training.
Adult Club players living in a County classified as Level 3 may travel to their Home Counties to participate in Training.
3. Use of Indoor Team Facilities
Dressing rooms, showers, gyms and all other indoor training facilities should remain closed for club activities.
4. Committee Meetings
No indoor meetings should be held.
5. Officer Training
All officer Training must be delivered on line. Outdoor coaching education courses may be held but are subject to a 15 person maximum.
6. Club Bars
Club Bars must remain closed until further notice
7. Indoor Events on GAA Property
Commercial use of indoor halls continues to be permitted where agreement was in place prior to March and relevant insurance are in place. Use by State bodies e.g. HSE/Schools is also permitted.
These are the only instances in which indoor activity is permitted on GAA Club property.
8. Outdoor Events on GAA Property
Gatherings of up to 15 people only are permitted. As such, fundraisers such as fittest family, Couch to 5k etc should not be organised.
Planned drive in events may continue, however patrons must remain in their vehicle for the entire duration of the event with no access to club facilities including bathrooms.
ADVICE FOR 2ND LEVEL SCHOOLS AND 3RD LEVEL INSTITUTIONS
9. Games and Training

Training can continue on a non-contact basis in pods of no more than 15 people
No games or training sessions are permitted in 3rd level institutions in either jurisdiction.
INTER COUNTY SPECIFIC GUIDELINES
10. Use of Indoor Team Facilities
Inter county activity has been classified as an exemption to the normal restrictive provisions by the Government. Therefore the use of such facilities currently is for Inter County Teams only (Senior, U20, Minor) and should be carried out in accordance with the Return to Training and Play for Inter County Teams advice document issued recently.
Inter County players may use their relevant Club Gym for individual training as long as they are following the advice in the Inter County Return to Training and Play document.
Adult Club players living in a County classified as Level 3 may travel to their Home Counties to participate in Training.
11. Inter County Challenge Games
Inter County Challenge games may take place at Senior level only.
From midnight tonight, October 7th, challenge games can no longer take place at U20 or Minor grades.
12. Attendances at Inter County Games
In Level 3, all inter county games must be played behind closed doors.
The position with respect to the 6 Counties is currently being reviewed – further guidance for both jurisdictions on spectator arrangements (if any) will issue in due course for the Allianz Leagues, Provincial and All Ireland Championships
For Minor intercounty games or training sessions staged behind closed doors and because they involve players aged 17 and under,
· No more than 1 designated individual (parent/guardian) should attend a training session or game per child/family/group of children.
· The GAA Health Questionnaires MUST be completed by parents/guardians in advance of attendance.
Parents are NOT permitted to be in attendance at adult or U20 games where their child (U18) is participating. However, provision can be made to allow an adult to be in close proximity (e.g. in the car park etc) in case medical or other emergency needs require their presence.

The 2020 Nenagh Éire Óg junior-A panel
Commiserations go to our junior-A hurlers who, after a highly entertaining clash with Toomevara, lost out in the North final, 1-19 to 0-20. In a rip-roaring contest, both sides left everything on the field of play but unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for a fantastic Éire Óg side. Congratulations to Toomevara on completing a brilliant four-in-a-row set of titles and we wish them the very best of luck in the county championship. The club wishes to thank the management team of Eddie Tucker, Paul Lillis, Derek Lillis, Bryan Darcy and Ger McCarthy for all of their hard work this year, first aid Bartley Ryan and the entire panel for their commitment.
Junior-C
Our junior-C North semi-final against Roscrea this weekend had to be postponed following a bereavement in the Roscrea club. We extend our sympathies to all in Roscrea. This game is likely to be refixed for next weekend. Please check the fixtures section on our website for details.

Shane Connolly, Geraldine Kyne, Majella Moyles, Ciaran Hynes and Eddie Hynes
On Saturday 8 August, Eddie Hynes, Eddie Tucker, Shane Connolly and about 50 other cyclists did a 110km/70miles lap of Lough Derg to raise money for Living Links Suicide Support. This is a wonderful charity that helps those who have been affected by suicide. Recently, a cheque for over €10,000 was handed over to the charity and we wish to congratulate all involved for their selfless work in raising these vital funds.

In this week’s edition of the Guardian newspaper, Shane Hennessy gave an insightful interview into his unfortunate ACL injuries and subsequent recovery which have haunted his hurling career. To read this please click here. Remember to support your local newspaper by purchasing a copy every week.
Willie Bolger’s on Fire in the Land Down Under
A few weeks back Willie Bolger scored two goals for Sarsfields Hurling Club in the county final against Shamrocks and secured an amazing five in a row set of titles for the Australian side. That was Willie’s fourth Australian county title to add to his two league medals and 7-a-side title with Sarsfields.
Footage has just been leaked of his phenomenal two-goal exploits which single-handedly captured the title for Sarsfields. Unfortunately, the footage failed to capture Willie’s infamous fist-pumping after scoring the goals which never fails to inspire all those around him. He was, just this week, released from hospital after extensive treatment to burns on his hands which he suffered while pulling the game out of the fire for his side. There’s no doubt that after seeing the video above, a certain Mr. L. Sheedy will be making phone calls to the lower hemisphere to see if Willie will return and help the Premier retain Liam McCarthy this year. Plans are already afoot in Sarsfields for a 20-foot marble statue of Willie to be placed at the entrance of their recently renamed grounds, Bolger Perpetual Park.

Our under-14 league campaign got off to a flying start with a win over St Patrick’s. We made the long trip to Clooneen on Saturday morning. We put some great moves together in the second half, and goals from Eimear Brislane, Clodagh Spain and Isabel Farrell ensured we came away with the win.

Under-12
After their superb win against Roscrea in the semi-final, Nenagh 1 team traveled to Ballycahill on Sunday afternoon to play Cahir in the county final.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be our day as we came up against a very strong Cahir team.
While the result wasn’t what we had hoped, we had a fantastic lift before the game as our co-captain Grainne Beatty came to Eire Og to wish us well. She donned the blue jersey and even picked which way we were to play if we won the toss! It was great to see Grainne again and her fighting tendencies certainly inspired her teammates on the day.
After a nervy first quarter, our girls settled well but could not find the scoresheet. It was a case of both sets of backs being on top and we went in at half time 0-1 to 0-0 down.
Two goals conceded just after half time caused the Nenagh heads to drop and Cahir pulled away to win well. The Nenagh girls left nothing behind and fought to the bitter end. With the majority of these girls still under 12 again next year, the future is very bright.
The coaches would like to thank all the Nenagh 1 girls for their commitment all year and to all the parents for their support at all the games. It has been a strange year in so many ways but camogie has been a great outlet. We wish the girls moving on to under-14s all the best and thank them for all their great play over the past couple of years.
Next Sunday our great little warriors on Nenagh 2 play Burgess 2 at the Ragg in their Shield Final. We will have training on Monday and Thursday 6-7pm to prepare.

Our junior-A hurlers were made work all the way by a superb Kilruane MacDonaghs side in Puckane on Saturday evening in the North semi-final. The lads now look forward to the North final where they will face Toomevara.
Junior-C Hurling
Our junior-C hurlers completed the round-robin section of the championship with a 3-9 to 3-3 win over Ballinahinch in MacDonagh Park on Sunday morning with Shane Flynn (2) and Seán McTiernan grabbing the all-important goals. Nenagh have now finished on top of the group and look forward to the semi-final.
John Kissane Cup
Due to Covid-19, it was impossible for the committee of the John Kissane football sevens to organise a competition this year so on Friday morning it was decided that the winners of Sunday evening’s junior football challenge between Nenagh Éire Óg and Portroe, clubs that he coached, would be presented with the John Kissane Cup.
On the night Portroe prevailed and captain Kevin O’Halloran gave a lovely speech afterwards where he praised the work John Kissane put into both clubs over the years.
In the North junior-B championship, we have been drawn to play the losers of Moneygall and Burgess in the quarter-final.

So close and yet so far for our Under 14A boys in their Plate Final V Kilruane last Thursday evening. It was a heartbreaking defeat in MacDonagh park for this brilliant group of boys from Éire Óg as they were pipped at the post by a last minute goal from Kilruane. The Éire Óg side fought every inch of the way in what was a whole hearted effort from the boys. Nenagh got off to a good start and clocked up some fantastic scores, however, goals from Kilruane kept their side in touch. The game was level in the final minutes and momentum seemed to be with Nenagh but as the clock entered the final minute of the game another goal came for Kilruane. Nenagh battled to pull the score back but after registering a point in reply that was to be the final score for the match. Congratulations to Kilruane who never gave up. Commiserations to this fabulous group of Éire Óg boys, they are a joy to watch and give everything each time they take to the field. There is a very bright future ahead for this group, their time will come, we have no doubt.
Continued good luck to all Nenagh Éire Óg groups in this week’s matches.

Under 14 President’s Cup 2020
Congratulations to our fabulous Under 14 hurlers who won the 2020 Presidents cup in a convincing manner with a win over Burges this evening in a sun drenched MacDonagh Park.
The Éire Óg boys started well, grew into the game and dominated in most positions which gave the platform to build numerous attacks and rattle the Burges net on many occasions.
It was wonderful to have Éire Óg Club president Jimmy Morris on hand to make the presentation of the President’s Cup to the Nenagh joint Captains.
Jimmy was accompanied by fellow club presidents Ger Gavin, Paudie O’Kennedy and Mick Burns.
Thank you to all involved in making this evenings game a great success.
Thank you to Burges for the game.
Thank you to the management group of this great bunch of hurlers who have provided so much joy and entertainment all season. It was a delight to close this years hurling on a positive note for this team.

Our under six hurlers had their very first blitz of the year on Saturday morning last in MacDonagh Park Nenagh. The boys played Ballina in what was a fantastic morning’s hurling for these young stars. Nenagh fielded five teams for the blitz. This blitz was the first-ever match for many of these young stars and each one hurled brilliantly. A big well done to these boys on the wonderful performances and effort they all put in at this morning’s blitz. Thanks to Ballina for traveling. Training continues next Saturday morning at ten o’clock to eleven in the park.

Our under eight boys traveled to Thurles on Saturday morning last to take part in a blitz against teams from all over Tipperary. The boys got to play teams from Drom & Inch, Thurles Gaels, Sean Treacys, Moycarkey Borris and Portroe. The boys played very well and enjoyed the opportunity to play against the many different teams. Hurling training will continue each Tuesday evening from six to seven and Saturday mornings from ten o’clock to eleven unless we have a game. New members (boys born in 2012 or 2013) are always welcome. Under ten boys, this group had a very busy week with two blitzes to navigate. First blitz was a mid-week affair, the boys played Kiladangan in three very competitive games last Wednesday evening in MacDonagh Park. The boys played with great determination and effort. There were some excellent skills on display by the Nenagh boys. Thanks to Kiladangan for traveling over to play.
The second blitz for our under ten boys was Saturday morning in Thurles, the boys took on Cashel in the glorious Autumn sunshine. Our boys played three games against three Cashel King Cormacs sides and as we expected Cashel were well up for today’s challenge. Our boys were every bit equal to Cashels’ challenge and we saw some excellent skills, huge effort and determination from the Nenagh boys. Our boys produced some brilliant scores, determined hooking and blocking and excellent teamwork throughout the three games. Thank you very much to the two Under eight hurlers who stepped up and played with their Under ten club mates at the blitz, this resulted in two sets of brothers lining out for the under tens. Congratulations to these two fabulous young superstars on their under ten debut. Well done to all the boys who played against Cashel.

Hard luck to our under twelve A Plate Final team who put in a massive effort but just couldn’t take the match from an excellent Kilruane MacDonaghs side last Saturday evening in Cloughjordan. Continued good luck to all Nenagh Éire Óg groups in this week’s match(es).
This week’s Juvenile fixtures are:-
Please keep an eye on club social media and text groups as fixtures are subject to change at short notice.
Thank you to all the parents who encourage practicing of both codes at home between training sessions, this is central to the children developing their skills and confidence on the ball and ultimately their enjoyment of the game.
Thank you to those who volunteered as Covid officers for the different age groups, without this framework and support from parents return to play would not be possible. Please be mindful of the new additional Covid procedures around return to play. Please continue to follow all of the GAA and HSE guidelines.
Thank you to all those who have already signed up on line to the new Nenagh Éire Óg club lotto. Please visit www.nenagheireog.com for anyone else who wishes to join.

Alanna Peters clears her lines
Team 1 played Roscrea in their county semi-final on Sunday afternoon in a Ballinahinch. Playing against a strong wind in the first half, our backs were superb, keeping the Roscrea girls scoreless. We led at half time by a point after a great run and shot from Grace Cleary.
The second half was a ding-dong battle with Roscrea scoring a goal early to go ahead. Grace Cleary got us back ahead after a super run on goal from Sophie Hourigan. She passed the ball goalward and Grace finished it to the net.
Roscrea came back again and scored another goal, putting them back ahead. The Nenagh girls didn’t bow their heads though and after great midfield play by Saoirse Ryan and Anna O’Dwyer, Sophie pounced again to get her low shot into the net.
The Roscrea girls battled right to the end, but our backs put their bodies on the line and held firm to win by a single point. Hard luck to Roscrea and well done to all the girls on a fantastic match. Thanks to all who came to support. Both teams 1 & 2 will now have their co finals next weekend, fixtures to be confirmed. We need all under-12 girls at training this week to prepare. Monday and Thursday 6-7pm.
