U19 Hurling

A reminder to please complete the health questionnaire each morning of the camp. A number of people still haven’t added “Cúl Camp” to their Foireann profile and will not be allowed to enter if they don’t. It will speed up admission hugely if people can complete it before 9.00 each morning as completed names are recorded on the roll rather than delaying checking the phone.
Each day the roll call will be taken at the entry to the inside field. There is a fence set up for people to queue in an orderly and socially distant fashion. Any adults, please wear a face covering at drop off and collection times. Collections will take place at the same place. We will ask older siblings to bring younger ones out with them. The youngest groups will be last out and handed over to parents. Please be extremely vigilant in the car park. Parking on the road may be necessary also due to the large numbers.
The camp starts at 10.00 each day and finishes at 14.00. There are two short breaks for the children to have a healthy pack lunch and plenty of water. Please encourage the children to use the bins provided.
Please ensure the children have raincoats or change of top. Usual equipment for hurling, football – helmet, hurl, shin guards, gumshield, etc.
Any parent that can volunteer to help out please text Niall, anyone with availability for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday would be very welcome.
Éire Óg Juvenile Club will be running a Swap Shop for Éire Óg gear in July. All funds raised will go to The Children’s Ark Paediatric Unit at University Hospital, Limerick. Families and players are asked to pull out & wash any club gear that is no longer being used but still in good condition.
Please contact Sinead with any gear you may have for the Swap Shop on 087 636 0532. Please attach a label stating the age group/size on each item. No boots or socks please. Alternatively, gear can be left in the designated tub at the Éire Óg Cúl Camp by Thursday morning. Gear should be in good condition & washed!
The Swap Shop will take place from 13:00-14:00 on Thursday 15th July at McDonagh Park. Items will go fast! All interested in taking gear are asked to donate to The Children’s Ark Paediatric Unit at University Hospital, Limerick. All contributions to our fundraising efforts are welcome on the day – there is no obligation to take gear!
All attending the Swap Shop are reminded that Covid guidelines must be strictly adhered to.

Hurling Wall
Over the past few weeks great work was undertaken by a number of people in the club to get the area ready for the work to start on the Hurling Wall – the work on this will now hopefully begin in the coming weeks. Tremendous work was also done by this group on the area around the inside field which is now ready to take games again when the time comes. It’s greatly encouraging to see this level of volunteerism within the club and we all really appreciate the time and work put in by this group.

The lotto has always been one of our main fundraisers and with our current club developments it is of vital importance to us now that everyone continues to row in behind our lotto and we continue to increase the Nenagh Eire Og online club lotto subscriptions. We are asking our juvenile families and supporters to play our club lotto online. It costs just €2 per week to play safely online and there are different payment plans available. If your not in, you cant win!
Please choose the ‘auto-renew’ option and also help family members who may not have an online presence to join. The link to join is available on the clubs web page so please sign up now and you will be included in the next draw.
All social media shares of lotto updates are appreciated and its wonderful to see family and friends from far and wide coming through in the weekly winners.
Ní neart go cur le chéile.

All families are asked to complete registration with www.Foireann.ie as soon as possible if you haven’t done so already. Details of how to complete this process have been shared via the various juvenile WhatsApp groups. Your co operation in getting these registrations complete as soon as possible is greatly appreciated and will be required in order to complete your childs’ Covid self certification for return to play.

Return To Play
We would ask all parents/guardians to observe and co-operate with all the Covid protocols that will be in place in order to ensure a safe training environment for your children and family. Training slots – days and times have been issued on the various WhatsApp groups, welcome back and enjoy!
Please encourage the boys to practice when they can, we understand that motivation may have been a challenge during the lockdown and are mindful of same as training ramps up. Challenge matches will commence soon which will bring a whole new dynamic to each groups development & progression.
We hope to link in with some of the NEO senior hurling team in the coming weeks and leverage their experience from when they were juvenile hurlers and how they developed their skills and passion for our games.
It’s a very exciting time for the club with huge developments taking place in the field at present. The physical changes around the club grounds were visible to all who returned to play last week. These changes are the initial stages of the development work and indeed the footprint of the new hurling wall and astro pitch are clear to be seen. We will all be looking on in eager anticipation of the progress that will be made over the coming weeks. Remember to transfer your donations and let your funding representative know you have done so for receipt issuing purposes.
CAMOGIE NEWS
Tipperary
Grace O’Brien scored 2-4 to help Tipperary book their place into the semi-final of the league. The brace of goals from Grace and four points from play contributed to an impressive win for the Premier side beating Offaly 4-17 to 13 points.
Seniors/Minors
Senior/minor Camogie training continues on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sunday mornings. With just three weeks to go before the first round of league matches we will be arranging challenge matches for the team in advance. Any former player looking to come back and train are most welcome.
Under 14s/Under 16s
The Under 14s played their first game of the season Roscrea in McDonagh Park on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon. Nenagh played with the wind in the first half but it was Roscrea who took the initiative and led 1-1 to 0-0 at half time. The Nenagh girls fought hard and held Roscrea scoreless in the 3rd quarter, but the wind told in the final quarter and Roscrea won out 1-5 to 0-0. This was a big step up from Div C to B1, but the girls didn’t take a backward step. The backs especially were immense and deserve great praise for their efforts.
Training for u14s and u16s continues on Thurs evening. Please note change of time to 6pm due to match on inside field.

Lotto
As part of our Community Lotto, we recently donated €500 to our local healthcare workers – this was organised by Friends of Nenagh Hospital who drew five names from staff members in Nenagh Hospital.
The five lucky winners were Jessy George, Mary Minogue, Marjorie Roberts, Deirdre Ryan and Denis Farrell and they each received €100 voucher for a local business.

The presentation of these vouchers took place last week in the grounds of Nenagh Hospital – the five winners are pictured above with Josie Mackey, Club Treasurer and John Tooher, Club Chairperson.
We have now donated €2,500 to local charities since relaunching our Club lotto on 29th June last year. The other charities to benefit from these donations were Friends of Nenagh Hospital, Tipperary Search and Rescue Unit, Ormond Special Olympics and Nenagh Lions Club. At the end of the current 10 week cycle we will be donating a further €500 to our next chosen charity which is the Nenagh Rape Crisis Centre.

Catherine Ryan, Director of Nursing Nenagh Hospital, presents John Tooher with a Thank You letter on behalf of Hospital staff for €500 vouchers recently raffled amongst Hospital staff.
As we approach the first anniversary of the lotto relaunch, plans are in place to change the current format of our lotto. We will continue to donate €500 to a local charity every 10 weeks, however at the end of the current 10 week cycle (which is at the end of July) we will once again introduce weekly lucky dip prizes – this will replace the current Supplementary draw that we currently hold every 10 weeks. So from the lotto draw of July 26th there will be three lucky dip prizes of €50 each on the weeks when our lotto jackpot is not won.
Lotto Draw 31st May 2021
There was no winner of tonight’s lotto draw, the numbers drawn were 3, 6, 12 & 29
The ten names drawn this week for the supplementary draw on July 19th are:
1. Eamon Spillane
2. John Spencer
3. Ann Marie Ryan
4. Hugh Maloney
5. Adrian Finn
6. Brian Flynn
7. Seamus Cleary
8. Kevin Tucker
9. Bob O’Brien
10.Conor McCarthy
Next weeks lotto jackpot is €5,400.
We thank you all for your continued support of our lotto, those who wish to join can do so through the link above on the website.

Pictured above are the three winners of the recent Supplementary draw – Niall Cahill receives his cheque from John Tooher and Conor O’Donovan and Pamela O’Brien receive their cheques for €500 from Josie Mackey.
Membership
The deadline for the payment of membership is today, 31st May – this can still be paid online through the link above on the website and can also be paid to your mentors at training.
All players, both adult and juvenile, should pay their membership immediately to be covered under the Player Injury Scheme. Once membership is paid members must set up their own registration on Foireann.ie.
Co. Senior League
With all groups back training for the past few weeks, we are now looking forward to matches beginning in the next few weeks. First up will be the Co. Senior League where we have been drawn in a group with Roscrea, JK Brackens and Thurles Sarsfields. Our first game is due to take place against Roscrea on Sunday 13th June. Keep a check on the website and social media for fixtures.
Community Response
As restrictions are gradually being eased it is time once again to stand down our Community response group. We wish to thank all those who have volunteered their time over the past 15 months to help out those that needed it during Covid restrictions and we especially thank Bartley Ryan for his time in co-ordinating this.
Scott O’Brien
Former Nenagh Éire Óg player Scott O’Brien continues to maintain his and Nenagh Éire Óg’s international sporting reputation. Scott, who is currently on a golfing scholarship in the US, was a primary player in his colleges golf team that brought home first prize in a USA national competition last month. No doubt a major contribution to Scott’s golfing talent were the ball striking skills he honed on the hurling fields where he played both in goals and in the forward line for Nenagh Éire Óg up to the minor grade.
Congrats to Scott and we wish him further success in his future sporting endeavours.

Ger Gavin RIP
All in Nenagh Éire Óg were shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of former Chairman and Life President Ger Gavin last Friday. Ger was devoted to Nenagh Éire Óg and worked tirelessly for the Club over the years. Ger held many roles with Nenagh Éire Óg – he was Chairman from 1986 – 1996 and again in 2004 – 2005, in between he was vice chairman on three separate occasions and he also served as Treasurer in 1986.
It was during his first term as Chairman that Ger’s qualities as an administrator came to the fore when Nenagh Éire Óg enjoyed one of their most successful periods, both on and off the field. On the field the club won North and County hurling and football titles in minor and U21. But crucially the titles also came at senior level with two North senior titles and of course a County senior title in 1995. Off the field Ger and his Committee set about the task to upgrade Mac Donagh Park and in these years the Complex and Stand that we have today were developed. These achievements were recognised in 1989 when Ger was the recipient of Munster Clubman of the Year, an award he richly deserved.
Following his departure as Chairman in 2005, Ger did not rest on his laurels but continued to be involved in all aspects of Nenagh Éire Óg. He has been central to all fund-raising in the club since then and for years has been one of the biggest club promoters of the County Board Draw and the Club Lotto. Indeed Ger was passionate about the Tipperary Draw and was an invaluable member of the Draw Committee for over 30 years.
Ger became Nenagh Éire Óg Life President in 2010 and his dedication to the GAA was further rewarded in 2015 when he was presented with a Laochra Gael award by Tipperary Co Board.
Ger was full of enthusiasm about the current plans to upgrade Mac Donagh Park, how heartbreaking it is for us all that he will not be around to see this project come to fruition. His lifetime commitment and dedication to Nenagh Éire Óg are well renowned and we are all very fortunate that Ger Gavin became involved in Nenagh Éire Óg – he will be sorely missed by all. A true Nenagh Éire Óg man, may you Rest in Peace Ger.
To his wife Bridie, his daughters Deirdre, Marion and Claire, his sons Gerry and Brendan, his adored grandchildren and all his extended family we offer our sincere sympathies.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílís.

Please encourage the boys to practice when they can over the next few weeks. There are a huge number of boys nationally that struggled for motivation in all sports over the past few months and we are very conscious of this and will be very mindful of the boys. We hope every available boy will return and hope to gain extra boys as well.

One Club Volunteers
While the preliminary work on the new hurling wall is ongoing, changes can also be seen around the inside field and on the bank at the top end of the field.
To assist in this work a group of volunteers from the adult, juvenile and camogie clubs got together last week to help with the preparation of the new viewing bank at the top end of the field. This group, which was pulled together at very short notice, did great work in clearing and preparing this area for grass seed. The club would like to thank everyone who volunteered and for all their help in getting this job done.

Club Development
Fundraising for our club development ambitions is going really well, everyone involved in the project have been genuinely humbled and impressed with the level positivity and eagerness of families to get behind and support the club on this pivotal journey. Please continue to make your donations, any amount is welcome and appreciated, reach out to your fundraising representative in order to obtain and details you may require around supporting the development.
For anyone who would like to know more please see below reminder and summary of our ambitions and how you can support.
We have all heard about the proposed club developments over the past few years. We are now embarking on a hugely exciting journey within the clubs history as we convert the proposed developments into reality for our members particularly our juvenile groups who are the future of our great club.
Behind the scenes club committees have worked tirelessly to progress this development journey for the club. Developments include the new hurling wall with Astro turf, new floodlit grass pitch, dressing rooms, 2.5km walking track, etc. Work has begun on Phase 1 which is the Hurling wall and Astro pitch, these new facilities will be a significant step forward in the provision of quality facilities for our future stars. Full brochure of the extended project & Phases is attached above for your information, please have a read through the information brochure to inform yourself about the wider vision for our club.
All support is very much appreciated and it will assist in ensuring our children have the best facilities available to them for years to come. There will be huge amount of grant’s available for later phases and when complete we will have a facility as good as any club in the country. Similar to other clubs that have taken on such a large development, the first phase is to look for donations from our members and supporters. As the club is a registered charity it can claim back €666 for every €1000 donated by PAYE workers. Donations in excess of €250 will qualify for this tax rebate and will also see your family name placed on a Club Development Jigsaw which will be featured in the new NEO grounds upon completion of the project. All donations big or small will go a long way to achieve this fabulous development.
The overall development will cost circa €1.3m. There is huge positivity in the club that we, together, can achieve all we have set out in the planned roadmap for our club. Achieving our vision for the club will require massive support from everyone connected with the club and all groups are being asked to support as much as possible. By now you will have been contacted by a representative from the juvenile club regarding donating to this significant project for our club. The response has been hugely positive from everyone contacted so far and the club wishes to thank sincerely all the families who have pledged donations to date, you are now part of one of the most significant milestones in our great clubs history. Bank details for donations and tax rebate forms are available from any of the fundraising group – see the brochure attached for their details. Please let your fundraising representative know when you have completed the bank transfer of your donation and also ensure your signed original tax rebate form is returned to your representative in order to maximise the impact of your donation to the club on this momentous journey. Anyone considering donating please do so and touch base with your fundraising representative if you have any questions. Please reference you full name in your donation bank transfer so we may issue you with a club receipt. Your support is greatly appreciated, Ní neart go cur le chéile.
