A Munster final won, the seniors win in Down and all the weekly fixtures, once again this week’s notes are packed with news on the Blues
Tipperary
It was not a great week on the inter-county front with both the Tipperary senior camogie team and the under-21 hurling side coming unstuck against Cork.
Grace O’ Brien and Sarah Quigley were part of the Tipperary senior camogie panel that were beaten by Cork on Saturday evening in The Camogie Grounds, The Ragg, 1-27 to 1-12.
On Wednesday evening the county under-21 hurling side were comprehensively beaten by Cork in the Munster final, 2-23 to 1-13. Jake Morris scored a fine second-half point but it wasn’t enough to tame an impressive Rebel side. Tipperary now face Tony Ward’s Galway who scored a dramatic goal in injury time at the end of extra time to overcome the challenge poised by Wexford.

Senior

Our senior hurlers travelled to Portaferry, Co. Down over the weekend to take part in a local tournament and came away winners having defeated Portaferry 3-27 to 0-12 and Ballygalget 1-23 to 3-15. The players were blown away by the warm welcome from the locals and many new friendships were made. We were also delighted to be able to stop off in our club sponsor’s premises, Rody Bolands in Rathmines on the way up.
The lads are straight back to serious work as they face Toomevara in St. Michael’s Park, Toomevara this Tuesday evening, July 10th at 8pm. Your support would be appreciated by all the players.

The details of the semi-finals of the Hibernian Inn North Tipperary senior hurling semi-finals have been finalised and Nenagh Éire Óg face Kiladangan on Friday 27th July at 19:15 in Templederry. At the same time Toomevara will play Kilruane MacDonaghs in Dolla in the other semi-final.
Junior-A
The junior-A side return to action on Sunday evening when they take on Toomevara in Cloughjordan in the next round of the championship. Best of luck to all involved.
Junior-B
Our junior-B side were unfortunately beaten by Templederry in the championship on Saturday evening in MacDonagh Park, 3-15 to 1-9. If ever a result did not reflect the true nature of the game this was it as the Nenagh team put up a tremendous battle in the searing heat with only fifteen players. A number missed scoring opportunities, including some great saves by the Templederry goalkeeper, meant that we lost out but all players should be acknowledged for the effort they put in right up to the full-time whistle. We now face Newport in our final game in two week’s time.
Team: John O’ Donoghue, John O’ Brien, Leonard Ryan, Jack Sheedy, Dan Molamphy, Kieran Duffy, Gavin O’ Connor, Jamie Gallagher, Thomas O’ Brien, Aidan Healy, Niall Cahill, Brian Carr, Seán McTiernan, Eamon Darcy, Stevie Hallinan.

Tipperary
We had a fantastic weekend on the inter-county front with some of our players excelling. It started on Saturday with the Tipperary intermediate side coming from seven points down to beat Westmeath in the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland championship, 3-13 to 4-8. Ruth Hassett, Hazel McAuliffe, Caroline Browne and Sarah Quigley were all involved.
Today, Rory O’ Donovan, Seán Phelan and Cian O’ Farrell were part of the Tipperary minor side which defeated Limerick in the Munster final today in Semple Stadium. Indeed, both Seán and Cian excelled scoring two points each in Tipperary’s 1-20 to 1-12 win. Commiserations to our strength and conditioning coach Darragh Droog who is part of the Limerick backroom team.
We extend our best wishes to Jake Morris and the Tipperary under-21 side who travel to Páirc Uí Chaoimh to face Cork in the Munster final on Wednesday evening. Jake has been in fine form this year and we hope a huge crowd from the club travel to support him and the team.
Camogie News
Senior Camogie
Our senior camogie team created a little piece of history during the week when they qualified for the club’s first ever senior final after defeating Éire Óg Annacarty in the semi-final in The Camogie Grounds. This team are developing nicely under the watchful eyes of Conor Ryan and Daryl Tucker and a late Maeve Coffee goal secured the win after a workmanlike display in the searing heat. We now face Drom & Inch in the final and while the game was supposed to take place on Monday, July 2nd, it has been postponed until a later date.
Under-10

Our under-10 camogie team travelled to Kilcoleman on Saturday morning as Burgess hosted a fantastic blitz. There’s no doubt that while they had a fantastic time playing camogie, the highlight of the morning were the delicious ice-pops which the girls throughly enjoyed. Our thanks go to Burgess who were exceptional hosts.

Our junior-B hurlers travelled to St. Ruadhan’s Park to play Lorrha & Dorrha on Sunday evening in the second round of the championship and were very unfortunate to be on the wrong side of a 1-21 to 2-15 scoreline. The lads ran themselves into the ground and were out on their feet at the full-time whistle. A special mention must go to Niall Cahill who rolled back the years to score two fine goals. We are due to play Templederry this weekend and details of this fixture will be confirmed during the week.

This week the annual Blues’ 10KM run and 5KM family walk took place while both the senior and junior-A hurlers were in action

The Blues Run/Running for Josie
The Ivers & Cullinan sponsored Blues 10KM run and family 5KM walk took place in MacDonagh Park on Sunday and once again the club were overwhelmed with the response as hundreds of people pounded the pavements of the town. This year our nominated charity was Running for Josie, a brilliant effort to raise €200,000 for Pieta House and Living Links by former Tipperary under-21 Munster winning captain and All-Ireland senior champion in 2010, Seamus Hennessy. Seamus spoke passionately to a captive audience afterwards where he thanked the club for the generous donation but reminded everyone that should Kilruane MacDonaghs and Nenagh Éire Óg meet in the championship the friendship will end! It was a fitting tribute to the popularity and high esteem that Seamus is held in that so many from his own club turned up to support the event.
The club would like to thank the army of volunteers who helped make the day such a huge success, Shane Connolly and his team for organising the event, Ivers & Cullinan for their kind sponsorship and of course all the runners and walkers.
First home in the 5KM run were Ben Walsh, Philip McIntyre and Ruairi Walsh. The full results and times from the 5KM run can be accessed here.
Aaron Quigley led the 10KM race home, quickly followed by Gary Scully and David Sheehan while Avril Hurley was the female winner. The full 10KM results can be accessed here.

Tipperary
We extend our commiserations to Conor McCarthy and the Tipperary under-20 football panel who were defeated by Cork in the Munster quarter-final on Saturday evening last in Páirc Uí Rinn on a scoreline of 1-20 to 0-8.
We also wish Jake Morris and the Tipperary under-21 side the very best of luck in Semple Stadium this Thursday, June 21, when they take on Limerick in the Munster semi-final. Limerick had a comprehensive win over Clare (3-18 to 0-13) in the quarter-final so the Premier will have a tough task on their hands. This game throws in at 19:30.

Senior
Our senior hurlers made the trip to The Ragg on Tuesday, June 12, to play Drom & Inch in the county league but were unfortunately beaten 1-16 to 0-15 with Tipperary star Seamus Callanan getting the all-important goal. We now play Roscrea on Friday evening at 8pm in MacDonagh Park, Nenagh in the next round (please note the change of venue).
Our North Tipperary senior hurling semi-final clash against Kiladangan has been provisionally fixed for the weekend of August Saturday 4th or Sunday 5th. Kilruane MacDonaghs and Toomevara play in the other semi-final.

A number of our players had an eventful week on the inter-county front.

Conor listening to half-time instructions from manager David Power during a challenge game against Meath
On Wednesday, Tipperary under-20 Gaelic football manager David Power revealed his championship panel for the upcoming Munster campaign and we were thrilled to learn the exciting news that Conor McCarthy has been included. This is a remarkable achievement for Conor considering the amount of club football he plays compared to others who were hoping to be included. They face Cork on Saturday June 16th in Páirc Uí Rinn at 19:30 and we wish Conor and the team the very best of luck.
On Saturday the Tipperary senior camogie team faced Meath in the opening round of the All-Ireland series and recorded a 6-14 to 0-10 over the Royal county. Grace O’ Brien started while Sarah Quigley was an unused substitute despite two clean sheets against Limerick and Cork in the Munster championship.

Seán celebrates Tipperary’s injury time winning goal with Kevin Hayes (Moycarkey Borris)
In the Munster minor hurling championship on Sunday, Tipperary defeated Clare 2-14 to 1-12. Cian O’ Farrell helped himself to 1-1 from centre-forward before dropping deep late on to help out the defence while Seán Phelan had a superb game at wing-back. The team must await the results from the final round of games next Sunday to learn if they will qualify for the Munster final.

Jake during the warm up prior to Sunday’s senior game against Clare
In the Munster senior hurling championship Tipperary, unfortunately exited the competition following a disappointing 1-23 to 1-21 defeat to Clare. Jake Morris was introduced as a second half substitute and was very unlucky to see a shot ricochet off the Town End goal post which would have been a fantastic goal. Dáire Quinn and Barry Heffernan were also part of the panel.

Junior-A
Our junior-A championship game against Knockshegowna last week was postponed after Knockshegowna sought a postponement. We are now due to face Roscrea on Saturday evening, June 16th, at 19:30 in Toomevara in our next game.

Last Sunday we were pleasantly surprised to see our club were featured in the official match programme for the Munster championship game between Tipperary and Waterford. Tipperary fought back to secure a late draw against the Déise.

Tipperary

Jake Morris
Congratulations to Michael Ryan’s Tipperary side who came from eleven points down to snatch a draw in the Gaelic Grounds yesterday in the Munster championship. Jake Morris was introduced in the second half and made a dramatic impact on proceedings. He put Waterford’s Austin Gleeson under severe pressure that led to Tipperary’s second goal while also finding Ronan Maher with a delightful pass that resulted in Tipperary’s second last point before winning the crucial free that led to Jason Forde’s equaliser deep in stoppage time. The side face Clare on Sunday next in Semple Stadium requiring a win to keep any hopes of finishing in third place alive.

We commiserate with the county minor side who were defeated by Waterford in a dramatic game yesterday. Seán Phelan had a fine game at wing-back while Cian O’ Farrell was introduced as a second-half substitute. This side face Clare on Sunday next in their final game of the round robin series in Semple Stadium.

The North Tipperary/Mid Tipperary team play Galway McDonagh on Wednesday evening in MacDonagh Park, Nenagh at 19:30. Our junior-B side played their first championship game in two years when they faced Silvermines in MacDonagh Park on Friday evening and unfortunately were beaten 3-26 to 3-7. Despite the result there were a lot of positives from the game including the performance of young Martin Donnellan at full-forward who bagged three goals for himself. Congratulations also go to Brian Duffy who was named captain for the year. This year the junior-B side are managed by Leonard Ryan and Enda O’ Sullivan.

Aodán Ó Conchúi in action against Cork on Saturday night
Tipperary
We had a number of players involved in inter-county action this weekend.
Firstly, we commiserate with Sarah Quigley, Grace O’ Brien and the Tipperary senior camogie team who were defeated by Cork in the Munster final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday, 0-19 to 0-6. Sarah herself had a fine game with superb puck outs and she made a dramatic first half penalty save from Aoife Murray. They now face Meath in their opening championship game in two weeks.
Secondly, we congratulate Cian O’ Farrell, Seán Phelan, Rory O’ Donovan and the Tipperary minor hurlers who overcame the disappointment of last week’s loss to Limerick with a 4-15 to 1-13 win over Cork. The lads now face Waterford on Sunday next in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick.
Thirdly, we had two players involved in the Primary Schools matches over the weekend. Aodán Ó Conchúir featured at half-time of the Munster senior football semi-final on Saturday evening in Semple Stadium while Sam O’ Farrell played during the break of the Tipperary Cork Munster hurling championship game on Sunday, also in Thurles. Well done to both lads and we hope you had a wonderful experience.

Finally, Roy Race made his debut for Melchester Rovers in the popular comic magazine Roy of the Rovers and scored twice in a 3-3 draw against Elbury Wanderers and went onto become a star footballer. Today, our own Jake Morris made an equally dramatic debut for the Tipperary senior hurlers as he came off the substitutes’ bench deep in stoppage time to score a game-saving point to rescue his county from defeat against Cork in a game that finished 1-23 to 2-20. Dáire Quinn and Barry Heffernan were also part of the panel and we extend them our best wishes in the next round on Sunday against Waterford in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick at 4pm.

Jack McLoughlin
We extend our congratulations to Jack McLoughlin who played in the full-back line for the Tipperary primary school’s game at half-time of the Munster senior quarter-final between Tipperary and Waterford on Saturday evening. Jack had a fine game in the full-back line showing off the many great skills of Gaelic football to the large crowd. Jack got his photograph taken afterwards with many of the players including Michael Quinlivan and Alan Campbell. A special thanks goes to Jack’s teacher George Hannigan who nominated Jack to play on the team.
Blues Abroad

Congratulations to the Flynn brothers, Paddy and Kevin, on winning the Boston seven-a-side tournament over the weekend with Fr. Tom Burkes’. They played and won five matches on their way to the final where they defeated Tipperary. Well done lads.
Barry Coffey
We commiserate with Barry Coffey and the Irish under-17 soccer team who were beaten in extraordinary circumstances in the quarter-finals of the European Championship by the Netherlands on Tuesday last. Barry had a fine tournament cementing his growing reputation as an up and coming soccer player.
The so called fighting Irish can’t mix it with the standard of European football? Cheers for everyone’s support over this 3 year journey. ❤️Words can’t describe how we feel right now about that result. The future it bright and we will be back stronger than ever 👊🇮🇪

Tipperary
We extend our commiserations to Callan Scully and the Tipperary minor side who were defeated by Clare on Tuesday last in the Electric Ireland Munster semi-final 2-4 to 1-9. Callan played in goals in all four of Tipperary’s championship games this year and his performances caught the eye of many supporters who were more than impressed with his assured, confident displays. There’s no doubt that we will get more opportunities to see him man the goals for Tipperary in the future.

Another man who is excelling on the inter-county stage is Jake Morris who this week was called into Michael Ryan’s senior panel. Jake joins Barry Heffernan and Dáire Quinn as the Nenagh Éire Óg representatives on the Tipperary senior hurling panel.

Junior A
Our junior-A side exited the league on Friday evening following a 4-10 to 1-17 loss to Toomevara in MacDonagh Park. Nenagh started brightly but a goal scoring spree just before half-time handed the Greyhounds the initiative and despite a brave fightback, Éire Óg just could not reel them in. They are due to play Kilruane MacDonaghs on Saturday May 26th in MacDonagh Park at 17:30 in the opening round of the championship.

Liam Heffernan
A man who has given more than most to his community is Liam Heffernan. A club stalwart, he has taught Physical Education for 42 years, mostly in Nenagh College. Indeed the school has recently decided to acknowledge Liam for his tireless work over the years in the best way they know how by naming the school’s sports hall after him. Congratulations Liam from everyone in the club.

Come Dine With Me
On Friday evening last the club held it’s Come Dine With Me fundraiser in the Hibernian Inn with special celebrity chef being none other than Michael Cleary. “Skippy” proved that not only is he a superb hurler and business man but also has special talents in the kitchen. The club wish to thank Michael for his time, the staff in the Hibernian Inn for their hospitality and all those who attended.

Darkness into Light
The annual Darkness into Light fundraiser for Pieta House was held on Saturday morning last with an estimated 1,500 people participating. We want to thank all of those from the club who helped out and indeed those who joined the walk.

International Sportsmen
Three former Nenagh Éire Óg players have been making waves in recent weeks on the international stage proving that not only could they hurl, but they can excel at other sports also.
Firstly we wish Barry Coffey and his Irish international soccer team mates the very best of luck on Monday evening as the face the Netherlands at 7pm in the European under-17 championships. This game will be broadcast live on RTÉ 2.
Secondly, Seán Minogue won the British Open in pitch and putt over the weekend. Seán is a former player and mentor in the club and this is his first international win. Congratulations Seán.
Finally we commiserate with Donnacha Ryan who was part of the Racing 92 side which lost out to Leinster in the Champions Cup final in Bilbao on Saturday.

The best seat in the house! Denise Morris brought her own chair to the under-16 camogie final on Saturday.
A North title won, a senior inter-county debut and a player of the year accolade, there is plenty of news in this week’s club notes
Tipperary
Congratulations to both Grace O’ Brien and Sarah Quigley who played for the Tipperary senior team yesterday evening in their 1-24 to 1-13 win over Limerick in the Munster semi-final. Indeed, it was a memorable evening for the Nenagh ladies as Grace scored Tipperary’s goal while Sarah was making her senior championship debut. The team now face Cork in the provincial decider and we wish them the very best of luck.
Hard luck to Hazel McAuliffe and Ruth Hassett who were part of the Tipperary intermediate side defeated by Cork in the Munster championship.

We also extend our best wishes to Callan Scully and the Tipperary minor footballers who face Clare in the Munster semi-final this Tuesday evening in Semple Stadium at 7pm. A Premier win will not only see the team advance to the Munster final but also guarantee football throughout the summer as they will also qualify for the All-Ireland series. Callan has been simply outstanding in his three championship matches to date and it would be fantastic to see a large crowd from the club there to support him this Tuesday.

Shane Connolly
One man that has more than made his mark on the club is Shane Connolly. Shane was part of an extremely successful underage team in Nenagh Éire Óg and he has passed on his vast knowledge of the game to numerous boys and girls over the years through coaching and managing various hurling, Gaelic football and camogie sides. In recent times he has been involved with the North and Mid Tipperary side in the Celtic Challenge and he spoke to http://www.gaa.ie You can read Shane’s interview in the Twitter link below:

Sympathies
The club would like to express its condolences to Catherine McTiernan and family following the recent passing of her brother Noel Russell, Carrick Swan. Noel was an exceptional hurler with his club winning many South under-21 and senior medals and was also a highly regarded coach mentoring various Tipperary minor and under-21 sides where a number of Nenagh Éire Óg players benefited from his knowledge of the game.

North Tipperary under-12 D Gaelic football finalists, 2018

Camogie News
Senior
Our senior camogie team had mixed results this week. On Thursday evening they travelled to The Ragg to take on Drom & Inch and were missing a large number of players due to exam and inter-county commitments and were beaten however those that played deserve huge credit for their performances as they battled all the way to the full-time whistle. The team had much better luck however on Saturday evening as they overcame the challenge poised by Clonoulty Rossmore in MacDonagh Park, 1-11 to 0-8, a result that ensures the side have qualified for the league semi-finals. They have one match left to play against Éire Óg Annacarty and this is expected to take place next weekend.

Come Dine With Me

Michael Cleary
The Nenagh Éire Óg camogie club are thrilled to reveal the celebrity chef for this year’s Come Dine With Me fundraiser in the Hibernian Inn on Friday 11th May.
Winner of two All-Ireland titles, four Munster medals, two National hurling leagues and four All Star awards with Tipperary, as well as a county senior hurling championship with Nenagh Éire Óg, Michael Cleary is going to be the head chef for the evening.
Michael has been hugely successful in management leading Tipperary to their very first All-Ireland camogie title in 1999 and two more successes in 2000 and 2001 and there is no doubt that he will use these leadership skills in the kitchen as he puts his own unique stamp on the menu.
A hugely successful business man, he owns and operates JKC’s in Nenagh and it is fitting that he has teamed up with another local success story, Nenagh Éire Óg camogie club, to deliver what promises to be a wonderful evening of food, drink and lots of fun.
Music on the night will be provided by the brilliant Dufrane and the eight players who won county junior-B, junior-A and intermediate medals with the club will be honoured.
Tickets cost €20 or three for the amazing price of €50 and can be purchased from any committee member.
