Tipperary

Hard luck to Barry Heffernan, Jake Morris, Dáire Quinn and the Tipperary senior hurling team who were defeated by Limerick in the opening round of the Munster championship in the Gaelic Grounds. On what was his first championship start for the Premier, Barry is to be congratulated on a fine game at wing back. They now face Cork this Sunday in Semple Stadium.
We also commiserate with Cian O’ Farrell, Seán Phelan and the county minor side who also suffered a defeat at the hands of Limerick in the Munster championship. Cian came on as a second-half substitute but couldn’t claw back Limerick’s lead. Best of luck to the team against Cork next weekend.

We extend our congratulations to Jack McLoughlin who played in the full-back line for the Tipperary primary school’s game at half-time of the Munster senior quarter-final between Tipperary and Waterford on Saturday evening. Jack had a fine game in the full-back line showing off the many great skills of Gaelic football to the large crowd. Jack got his photograph taken afterwards with many of the players including Michael Quinlivan and Alan Campbell. A special thanks goes to Jack’s teacher George Hannigan who nominated Jack to play on the team.

Congratulations to the Flynn brothers, Paddy and Kevin, on winning the Boston seven-a-side tournament over the weekend with Fr. Tom Burkes’. They played and won five matches on their way to the final where they defeated Tipperary. Well done lads.
Barry Coffey
We commiserate with Barry Coffey and the Irish under-17 soccer team who were beaten in extraordinary circumstances in the quarter-finals of the European Championship by the Netherlands on Tuesday last. Barry had a fine tournament cementing his growing reputation as an up and coming soccer player.

Tipperary
We extend our commiserations to Callan Scully and the Tipperary minor side who were defeated by Clare on Tuesday last in the Electric Ireland Munster semi-final 2-4 to 1-9. Callan played in goals in all four of Tipperary’s championship games this year and his performances caught the eye of many supporters who were more than impressed with his assured, confident displays. There’s no doubt that we will get more opportunities to see him man the goals for Tipperary in the future.

Another man who is excelling on the inter-county stage is Jake Morris who this week was called into Michael Ryan’s senior panel. Jake joins Barry Heffernan and Dáire Quinn as the Nenagh Éire Óg representatives on the Tipperary senior hurling panel.

Junior A
Our junior-A side exited the league on Friday evening following a 4-10 to 1-17 loss to Toomevara in MacDonagh Park. Nenagh started brightly but a goal scoring spree just before half-time handed the Greyhounds the initiative and despite a brave fightback, Éire Óg just could not reel them in. They are due to play Kilruane MacDonaghs on Saturday May 26th in MacDonagh Park at 17:30 in the opening round of the championship.

Indeed the school has recently decided to acknowledge Liam for his tireless work over the years in the best way they know how by naming the school’s sports hall after him. International Sportsmen
Three former Nenagh Éire Óg players have been making waves in recent weeks on the international stage proving that not only could they hurl, but they can excel at other sports also.
Firstly we wish Barry Coffey and his Irish international soccer team mates the very best of luck on Monday evening as the face the Netherlands at 7pm in the European under-17 championships. This game will be broadcast live on RTÉ 2.
Secondly, Seán Minogue won the British Open in pitch and putt over the weekend. Seán is a former player and mentor in the club and this is his first international win. Congratulations Seán.
Finally we commiserate with Donnacha Ryan who was part of the Racing 92 side which lost out to Leinster in the Champions Cup final in Bilbao on Saturday.

Tipperary
Congratulations to both Grace O’ Brien and Sarah Quigley who played for the Tipperary senior team yesterday evening in their 1-24 to 1-13 win over Limerick in the Munster semi-final. Indeed, it was a memorable evening for the Nenagh ladies as Grace scored Tipperary’s goal while Sarah was making her senior championship debut. The team now face Cork in the provincial decider and we wish them the very best of luck.
Hard luck to Hazel McAuliffe and Ruth Hassett who were part of the Tipperary intermediate side defeated by Cork in the Munster championship.

A Premier win will not only see the team advance to the Munster final but also guarantee football throughout the summer as they will also qualify for the All-Ireland series. Callan has been simply outstanding in his three championship matches to date and it would be fantastic to see a large crowd from the club there to support him this Tuesday.

Senior Club Notes
Tipperary: Hard luck to Barry Heffernan and the Tipperary senior hurling team who were defeated by Kilkenny in the Allianz National Hurling League Final yesterday in Nowlan Park. Wearing the number five jersey, Barry had a fine game at wing-back and represented the club with pride and passion.

This is a fantastic achievement and we wish Callan and his team mates the very best of luck on Wednesday evening when they welcome Kerry to Semple Stadium for the opening round of the Munster minor football championship.

Sympathies: All at the club extend our sympathies to the Nevin family on the passing of Martin.

First Responders: Recently the Nenagh Éire Óg GAA club organised and ran a “First Responders” defibrillator training course, in conjunction with the Irish Red Cross, in MacDonagh Park. The club congratulates all of those who successfully completed the course especially Bartley Ryan who arranged this vital training and the Irish Red Cross for all their time and efforts.

Handball: We had a fantastic turnout of juveniles on Saturday for a marathon day of handball. A big well done to all the players, especially our younger members. Thanks to parents, brothers and sisters for great support for our end of year tournament and especially to Eamonn, Willie and Brian for organising and refereeing.

Congratulations to Sinéad Meagher (Nenagh Handball) and Róisín Cahill (Lahorna Handball) representing Tipperary who won the Ladies Junior Doubles All-Ireland last weekend beating Kilkenny opposition. All of us are very proud of you.

Camogie: Our under-12 girls made their Croke Park debut at the weekend playing in a fun blitz on the fabled surface. Thanks to all who organised the event and to the girls themselves who were a credit to the club.
Under-6 & under-8: Training continues in St Mary’s sports hall every Monday night from 6pm to 7pm . Weather permitting we will be moving outdoors soon . Helmets can be purchased at training weekly.
Under-12: The under-12 panel have started the year in flying fashion beating Newport and Kildangan in their first two league games. They traveled to Croke Park on Sunday for the Camán to Croker and represented their club and county extremely well winning their two games and behaving impeccably. As always they were togged out immaculately thanks to all their parents. Well done to all the parents that traveled and thank you to the management for the time and effort that they are putting into preparing and looking after this group. Take a bow James, Breda, Noel and Rose . Thanks also to Maria (Bridget) Sheedy our chairperson who stood in for Bridget Delaney while she sunned herself in South Africa.
Under-14: We were due to play St. Cronan’s Roscrea away last week in the Community Games but it was called off due to a bereavement in Roscrea.
Under-16: The under-16 team made it two wins out of two defeating Burgess in Kilcoleman with the score line 2-3 to 1-1. Well done to both teams for playing in such terrible weather conditions that saw two ducks entering the fray at one stage.
Seniors: The seniors were due to play Eire Og Anacarthy at the weekend but it was called off due to the weather.
