Senior Hurling
Congratulations to our senior hurlers who were crowned North senior hurling champions for the second year in a row on Saturday evening last in Dolla. In a tight game throughout, Nenagh won out by 4 points defeating Kiladangan on a scoreline of 21 points to 17.
Kiladangan took an early 3 point lead but when the boys went a point up in the middle of the first half they held onto the lead until the final whistle. This was a fine team performance with everyone playing their part – well done to the panel and the management team on a memorable win.
Action shots from the North senior hurling final
Following the full time whistle, captain Barry Heffernan accepted the Frank McGrath cup for the second year running from North Board Chairman Michael Tierney who fittingly acknowledged Barry’s return from the injury he sustained in last year’s final.
Conor Hennessy received the Man of the Match award and in so doing followed a proud and unique Hennessy family tradition with his father Phil winning the award in the 1993 North Final and grandfather Phil winning it in 1964.

On Sunday morning, our Blue team played Annacarty in their Shield Final. This team have been building to a crescendo all season and saved a great performance for the final. They went at it from the start, using the space intelligently, and defending well when necessary. We led 2-3 to 2-1 at half time, but despite facing the wind in the second half, the girls played some fantastic heads-up camogie. We outscored our opponents to win out 4-5 to 4-1. Our first team girls played Cahir in the Plate semi-final last Monday evening in Borris-Ileigh. The girls built up a 7 point lead early in the 2nd half. However Cahir were not done and put over 4 points of their own to narrow the gap to 3 with minutes to go. We held out for the win and went through to the final. Hard luck to Cahir.
On Thursday evening, we played Shannon Rovers in the Plate final in Lorrha. A strong start from Rovers saw us go 2-2 to 0-0 down after 7 minutes. We gradually got a foothold from there on and built a 3 point lead heading toward the final whistle.
Rovers however were not finished and scored a 3rd goal on the stroke of full time to level it. Again, our girls attacked and in fact won a free in front of the goal in injury time, only to see it come agonizingly back off the upright. The game finished in a draw and goes to a replay. Well done to both teams on a most entertaining game.
Final score: Éire Óg 1-9 Shannon Rovers 3-3 (Replay TBC)
