It was a disappointing weekend for our senior and junior-A hurlers, for the first time since Mark Sheahan we have a player on the Tipperary senior football panel and the under-8 boys finish up their year after ten months of fun. All this and more in this week’s news on the Blues
Senior Hurling
Commiserations go to our senior hurlers who were defeated by Kiladangan in the FBD Insurance Tipperary senior hurling championship semi-final in Semple Stadium on Sunday on a 1-15 to 3-12 scoreline.
We wish to thank John Brennan, Noel Maloney and the senior management team as well as the wonderful panel of players for all their efforts this year. While we didn’t win the Dan Breen Cup there’s no doubt that it wasn’t for the want of trying and no stone was left unturned by everyone involved.

Junior-A

Our junior-A hurlers were defeated by Arravale Rovers on Saturday in the county semi-final, 2-11 to 0-15, in Templederry. The lads fought bravely back from being five-points down with nineteen minutes to play to lead by one, deep in stoppage time, following a monster John Cahalan point however, the gods were not shinning down on the Blues and Rovers worked the ball up the field and it eventually came to Donough Leahy who blasted the winning goal from close range. It was a heart-breaking way to lose out but huge credit must go to the panel for the determination in which they played to bring themselves right back into the game. The club wishes to thank manager Eddie Tucker and his officials as well as the panel of players for all their efforts this year.
Callan Scully

We extend our best wishes to Callan Scully who has been invited by new manager David Power to join the Tipperary senior football panel. This will come as no surprise to anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing him in action for the club and county underage teams in recent years. The last Nenagh Éire Óg man to play senior football for Tipperary was Mark Sheahan and we have no doubt that Callan will follow in Mark’s footsteps and enjoy a long inter-county career.
Junior Football
The club have entered the North Tipperary junior football championship and preparations for this will begin soon. Players will be informed shortly of training and if anyone would like to take part please contact any of the management.

Under-8
The under-8 boys finished up their year on Saturday morning after ten months together. We had a fun morning in MacDonagh Park with lots of treats afterwards. 40 boys took part throughout the year. There were over fifteen blitzes. Thanks to all the parents who worked tirelessly all year in so many different ways on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Best wishes to all the boys moving on to under-10 next year and to the boys remaining with the under-8s. We hope all the boys continue to practise their skills in hurling and football at home and in school throughout the winter before returning to training in the New Year.

The club’s walking group continue their activities around the town this week with organised walks, leaving MacDonagh Park, at 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday. Absolutely everyone is welcome come along regardless of fitness levels or whether you’re from the town or not. Come along and get some fresh air and exercise in this social and relaxing environment.

Senior Hurling
In the battle of the Young Irelanders, our senior hurlers defeated Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill on Saturday afternoon in The Ragg in the FBD Insurance county quarter-final on a 4-15 to 1-8 scoreline. Nenagh got the perfect start when a Jake Morris effort was brilliantly blocked by Darragh Mooney but the Annacarty net-minder could do nothing to stop Conor Hennessy sticking the rebound home for the opening goal of the game inside the opening fifteen seconds. Morris himself got in on the goalscoring act with two of his own while Andrew Coffey added the fourth deep in the second half. We wish a speedy recovery to Shane Hennessy who were forced off early due to injury. We play Kiladangan in the county semi-final this Sunday at 1:45pm in Semple Stadium while Borris-Ileigh play Kilruane MacDonagh’s in the other semi-final at 3:30pm.

Our junior-A hurlers had a fantastic win over Skeheenarinky in Leahy Park, Cashel on Sunday last in the county quarter-final on a 2-14 to 1-15 scoreline. Killian Malone got Nenagh’s opening goal while Craig Hilmi added the second. The lads have been drawn to play West side Arravale Rovers in the county semi-final in Templederry at 4pm Saturday.

Under-15
Our under-15 hurlers finished their year on Sunday morning when they were beaten by Ballina in the hurling plate final in Ballina 1-20 to 2-8. We wish to thank the entire panel of players, their mentors, parents and guardians for all their hard work this year and many lifelong memories have been created in 2019 and we look forward to many more in 2020.

Our under-8 boys travelled to Sixmilebridge Saturday morning last to play Sixmilebridge of Clare and Clarinbridge of Galway. Four teams travelled from Éire Óg with all teams doing extremely well. There was great excitement over the past few weeks over the return visit to Sixmilebridge. Thanks to our hosts for providing food for all the visitors.

Autism Friendly Town
Nenagh is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Birdhill and Clonakilty in becoming a designated autism-friendly town. The initiative was launched in the Abbey Court Hotel on Friday by Alan Kelly T.D. and autism documentary film-maker Nic Ryan Purcell. They were preaching to the converted in a room packed with a cross section of the town and region as diverse as the autism spectrum itself. As highlighted on the night, if only some of the possible changes necessary were made by businesses, sporting clubs and the Council, they would have a massive positive impact on not just the families on the spectrum but on families dealing with a wide range of issues including dementia and hearing loss. In other words, it will bring a lot of peace to the town. As a club with over 300 juvenile boys and girls, and who play host to numerous senior and county hurling, Gaelic football and camogie matches, Nenagh Éire Óg were well represented on the night are looking forward to engaging with the soon to be formed committee and making MacDonagh Park even more accessible. Well done to all involved and we at Nenagh Éire Óg look forward to the challenge.

Under-15
Well done to our under-15 A Plate hurlers who beat Kilruane MacDonagh’s over the weekend in the North semi-final played in Nenagh. They will face Ballina in the final on Sunday, October 13th with the time and venue to be confirmed. Great hurling lads!
Under-6
Our under-6 boys had their final ‘training’ session in Nenagh College, with thanks to Mikey Heffernan and Adventure World Parties. A great morning’s fun was had by the boys (and their brothers and sisters!) and it was well deserved as they put in a huge effort all year. Well done boys!!
Also, a big thank you to parents who brought the boys to training and blitz’s and helped out at both in any way. It is very much appreciated by all. The club would like to add thanks to Cathal and the fantastic under-6 mentors who worked so hard all year to make a home for our youngest players and their families in MacDonagh Park. The future is bright. Éire Óg Abú!

Greg Browne
Those of us of a certain vintage will remember Greg Browne as a teak-tough, no-nonsense yet stylish player in both Gaelic football and hurling. He brought those traits successfully into coaching winning numerous titles with the overwhelming majority of teams he has trained and improved the skills of those players he offered advise to.
Greg as it turns out isn’t a bad singer and songwriter either after composing the following song about our town. Click on the YouTube link below to have a listen and spot familiar places and characters in the footage from around the town.

Under-13
The under-13 girls put on a great display in their first group game against Newport in Shallee last Friday evening. Unfortunately we came up against a stronger team on the night. Our next game is away to Roscrea next weekend, fixture TBC. Training continues on Thursday evening at 5.30pm.
Under-10
The under-10 girls finished up Sunday with the county blitz in Borrisoleigh. We had three teams and played teams from Borris-leigh, Brian Boru’s, Sliabh Felim, Toomevara, Knockavilla, Cahir, Fethard and Mullinahone. The girls began training mid-January and worked hard throughout the year. Huge numbers took part in the Éire Óg summer camp and the Cúl Camp. The highlight of the year was the trip to Dublin to play St. Judes and to watch the All-Ireland camogie final. Numbers continually grew throughout the year with more new girls starting recently. Our thanks to all the parents and coaches of the girls for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
Under-8
The under-8s finished their year with a County Blitz in Borrisoleigh on Sunday. Well done to the girls and their parents for all their efforts throughout the year. The girls made great progress this year as well has having plenty of fun. Looking forward to meeting up again in 2020 and new members are very welcome.

Our under-15 plate hurlers are though to a North semi-final on Sunday, October 6th, where they will play Roscrea V Kilruane MacDonagh’s. Best of luck lads.
Under-8
Our under-8 boys travelled to Durlas Óg to play a blitz on Saturday morning. Both teams had three teams in highly entertaining games. Durlas Óg gave us a wonderful welcome with delicious food afterwards. There was even some half-time fruit to keep the energy levels up. Congratulations to Durlas Óg on winning the county under-16 final later in the day. Hopefully both sets of under-8s will have lots of big days ahead of them as well. Next week we play a Gaelic football blitz and the following week we have our final hurling blitz of the year against Sixmilebridge and Clarinbridge.
Under-6
Well done to all of the boys on Saturday morning on their final blitz of the year in Roscrea playing against the hosts, Clonakenny and Borris-Ileigh. They had a great morning and despite the damp conditions, all played their hearts out. Thanks to Roscrea for inviting us and for the refreshments afterwards.
Also a big thank you to all of the parents who have brought the boys training every week and to blitz’s all over the county! It’s much appreciated and the improvement shown since last February is fantastic. The boys have one final ‘special’ training session next Saturday morning before the seasons end. Well done to all!

Under-13
The under-13 league commences this week and we play Newport away on Friday evening. Training continues this week for under-13s on Monday from 6:30pm to 7:30pm and Thursday evening 6pm to 7pm.
Under-10
The under-10 girls play their last county blitz next Sunday in Borrisoleigh. Great to see so many girls training since last January.
End of Year Party
The under-8 girls had their end of year party in Nenagh College on Saturday morning and great fun was had by all. Out thanks go to the parents, mentors and players for all their commitment over the year. We look forward to our last blitz of the year next Sunday.

Under-8
Under-8 training continues this week on Wednesday at 5:30pm and Saturday at 10am. New members are always welcome. There will be a blitz in Thurles, Saturday 27th, at 10am against Durlas Óg while on Saturday 12th October, we will visit Sixmilebridge to play the hosts as well as Clarinbridge.

The Walking Group present a cheque of over €7,000, the under-14s suffer final heartbreak while the under-6 camógs had a wonderful day in Puckane. All this and more in this week’s news on the Blues
Walking Group/Healthy Club Project
On Friday night the club’s walking group, in association with the Healthy Club Project presented a cheque for €7,195 to Eileen Murphy from Milford Home Care. The money was raised when the group climbed Croagh Patrick in Mayo last summer and donations were kindly received from many generous people including sponsorship from Anne Malone, Brian Darcy, Pauline Phelan and Stephen Ryan. The help and support of the adult, juvenile and camogie clubs was above and beyond the call of duty and we also thank Jackie Holland and Bartley Ryan who made a passionate and moving speeches on the night.

Under-14
Hard luck to this wonderful team of young hurlers who have had an outstanding year but lost out on Saturday to Dúrlas Óg, the better team on the day, in the under-14 A hurling county final. Playing with pride and passion, our boys left it all on the field and no club can ask for more. Thanks to our opposition, the referee, County Board officials and Knockavilla Kickhams for hosting the game. It was the attitude of the lads though, as they regrouped in the complex for dinner, that was most remarkable. In a room filled with their parents, siblings and club officers, they showed a resilience beyond their years. They were positive, great fun and already planning next year.
Thanks to Martin Morris and the Hi-B for providing the food, especially during Jimmy’s 90th birthday celebrations. Can’t have been simple! Once again, thanks to the fantastic parents of this group. They should never underestimate their role in the club. Under the guidance of their management team of Greg Browne, Shane Connolly, Michael McNamara, John Kennedy, Ronan Walshe and John McNamara, the boys have learned that their displays of teamwork, commitment and their desire to be the best that they can be for each other is what makes real winners. Thanks for that, men. It’s difficult to commiserate with a team that has won four North titles, one County title, a President’s Trophy and competed at National Féile, so we won’t. Well done in 2019 boys. Roll on 2020!

Under-12
Next year’s under-12s will take to the field tomorrow evening as we play Kiladangan and Newport in under-11 friendly games starting at 6.30pm. All players to be at the field for 6.15pm. Shinguards and helmets required.
We are saddened to hear of the passing of the late Margaret Lee, mother of Sinéad Lee and grandmother of Audrey (Éire Óg u12 team). May she rest in peace.
Under-6
The under-6s played Kiladangan and Shannon Rovers in glorious sunshine in Puckane on Saturday morning. A great way to finish a super year. Thanks to Kiladangan for the invitation and to all the parents that have supported the girls this year.
