Hard luck to Jake Morris, Barry Heffernan and the Tipperary hurlers who were defeated by Dublin the Allianz league quarter final on Saturday evening in Semple Stadium. Jake had a smashing game scoring three points. The lads must bed down now and get ready for the Munster championship.

Our junior A and B hurlers open their respective league campaigns next weekend with the As playing Toomevara and the Bs lining out against Portroe. Best of luck to both sides and details of these games will be published on our website once they are confirmed.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
There was a huge number of players marching in the St Patrick’s Day parade. It was lovely to see so many boys and girls wearing the Éire Óg colours. Thanks to all the parents for joining in and helping out. A special word of thanks to Catherine McTiernan from the juvenile club for organising and bagging over 120 goodie bags for the children who took part in the parade. One of our under-6 girls, Laura Walsh, presented a sliotar to Councillor Hughie McGrath at the viewing stand on behalf of the club.

More league matches will take place over the next few weeks. Training as usual on Sunday mornings. Membership forms to be returned this week from players for insurance purposes.
Under-12
Under-12s training will continue in Nenagh College from 7 to 8pm on Wednesday evenings. The first under-12 Cluster Blitz will commence on the 6th April at 11:00am in Kilcolman.

North Tipperary Féile na nGael Final
Congratulations to our Féile na nGael side who defeated Toomevara on Monday afternoon in the North Tipperary Feile final in MacDonagh Park, 6-13 to 1-6. Toomevara were fantastic opponents and there is no doubt that they did not deserve to lose by such a margin.
Table Quiz
The Éire Óg Juvenile Club are holding our annual Table Quiz at The Dapp Inn on Friday, 22nd March at 9pm. Gather a posse, draw lots for the babysitting duties and come along to this social evening for some brain-teasing, a bit of fun but most of all, a great time. Parents of our newest and youngest members especially welcome.

Happy International Women’s Day 2019
On Friday last the world celebrated International Women’s Day 2019 and while we know we are a few days late to the party we do hope all the ladies involved in our club, be they administrators, coaches, parents, supporters or players had a happy International Women’s Day.
We’re very fortunate to have a thriving camogie section which continues to grow year on year while our handball club is producing some of the best emerging female talent in both Ireland and the world.
The 20X20 initiative, a new campaign presented by the Federation of Irish Sport and originated and developed by the creative agency Along Came A Spider and supported by Healthy Ireland, is setting out to create a measurable cultural shift in our perception of women’s sport so that it will be seen as something strong, valuable and worth celebrating.
Numerous Irish sporting organisations including the GAA are calling on the people of Ireland and all those involved in Irish sport and physical activity to get behind female sport in a concerted effort to increase media coverage, boost attendances and ultimately, grow involvement in female sport and physical activity by 20% by the end of 2020.
The general public are being asked to pledge one action to show their support by doing anything that can accelerate progress for women’s sport in Ireland and we here in the club encourage all our members to get involved. You could make it your business to come and watch our camogie or female handballers in action and see the amazing talent and skills they possess. If you have never seen these players in action you could pledge to come to just one match and we guarantee that you’ll not be disappointed.

Senior Hurling
Our senior hurlers were due to play Clonoulty Rossmore in the opening round of the county league on Friday evening last but the game was postponed and is re-fixed for this Tuesday evening, 12 March, in Clonoulty with an 8pm throw-in time. Best of luck to the lads as they begin their 2019 campaign.
Our second game in the league is fixed for Bank Holiday Monday, 18 March, in MacDonagh Park when Loughmore Castliney will be in opposition. This game starts at 11:30am.

Our minor footballers played Kilruane MacDonagh’s in a frightfully freezing MacDonagh Park on Sunday morning in the North minor championship and despite the weather conditions that provided us with everything from snow to hailstones to brilliant sunshine, both sides played out a highly entertaining encounter with Kilruane winning out 3-4 to 0-6.

St. Patrick’s Day Walk
There will be a social walk at 10am on St. Patrick’s Day leaving from MacDonagh Park. This walk is open to all members of our community and beyond, is a great social activity and way to get fit. All are welcome regardless of fitness.

Calling on all of our juvenile boys to keep the tradition going and walk behind our banner on St. Patrick’s Day. The ‘Beast from the East’ didn’t stop our lads last year, so to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the re-formation of the Nenagh St. Patrick’s Day parade, we are looking for a big turn-out in 2019. We will meet at 13.45pm at the C.B.S. Primary gates on Summerhill and the boys are to be collected immediately following their march at the railway station car park, (that’s where the goodie bags will be!) Well done to Jake Morris, Barry Heffernan and the Tipperary senior hurlers who recorded a comfortable 1-29 to 1-16 win over Cork today in the league. Jake scored two points while Barry came on as a second-half substitute. They now play Dublin next weekend in the quarter final.

Our junior footballers travelled down to Cloneen to play St. Patrick’s in the opening match of the county league and despite an impressive performance were unlucky to lose 3-7 to 0-7. It is a testament to the players that they were willing to drive over one hour to play the game in awful weather conditions and indeed both sides have to be complimented for the high skill levels on show despite the inclement weather.
A special note about today’s game is that we got to witness something very rare in Gaelic games and indeed something rarer still in Nenagh Éire Óg in that we saw a father and son play together. Conal Ryan came on as a second half substitute and lined up in the forwards alongside his father Lenny. Well done lads.

Hard luck to our minor footballers who were beaten by Kiladangan today in Puckaun 0-9 to 0-1 in the North championship. With heavy rain and a blizzard blowing in the second half, both sets of players deserve huge credit for the manner in which they went about their business. We have two games left in the round robin stages against Kilruane MacDonagh’s and Inane Rovers with the Kilruane game taking place on Sunday at 12 noon in Nenagh.

Well done to our under-14 Féile hurlers who beat Borris-Ileigh on Saturday in Borrisoleigh. It finished 4-07 to 2-04. Played in very poor and windy conditions, both teams left everything on the field in a very entertaining contest to watch. The lads will now face the winners of Toomevara and Roscrea in the North final.

All the girls with their certificates
Saturday morning marked the end of “The EBS Nenagh Éire Ógres” with a visit from our county star Grace O’Brien who graciously took the time to present the girls with their certificates and t-shirts. Grace won another Ashbourne Cup medal with the University of Limerick in the past few weeks and is a great role model for our young Ógres. We wish her the very best with Tipperary this year. Throughout the four weeks the focus was on fostering an enjoyment of the skills learned, encouraging parental involvement and developing enthusiasm for the sport. We held our registration morning this morning and lots of the girls joined up to continue playing with our under-6 and under-8 teams this year. Training begins this coming week and details will be shared on the parents WhatsApp group. Any new players who wish to give it a try can contact the club through our social media platforms. Our thanks to the many coaches, parents and older sisters who gave up their precious time to ensure the girls had a wonderful time. Huge thanks must also go to the hard working committee who worked tirelessly behind the scenes ordering t-shirts, registering the girls, providing lovely food and all the other jobs that they did.

Up-Coming Fixtures
The competitive season is due to start shortly and our senior hurlers will renew rivalry with Clonoulty Rossmore in a repeat of last year’s county senior hurling final in the opening round of the county league.
This game is expected to take place on Sunday, March 10th at 12pm in Clonoulty while we expect to play our next game in the league the following Sunday at 12pm in MacDonagh Park against Loughmore Castliney.
Our junior-B footballers expect to play their opening match of the county league in Drangan on Sunday, March 3rd against St. Patrick’s at 12pm. The lads will play Clerihan in MacDonagh Park in their second match and travel to Kilcommon to play Seán Treacy’s in the final group game of the league later in the year. They will play their opening match of the county junior-B championship against Lorrha & Dorrha in St. Ruadhan’s Park on the weekend of April 21st and will play Galtee Rovers and Éire Óg Annacarty next in the championship with both games fixed for MacDonagh Park.
The minor footballers play Ballina on Sunday morning at 11am in MacDonagh Park in the North minor-A championship.

Best wishes go to Philip Hickey and Mary Immaculate College, Limerick who play University College Cork in this year’s Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup final next Saturday in Waterford. Mary Immaculate overcame the challenge of Shane Hennessy’s NUI Galway 1-18 to 0-18 in the semi-final in Cusack Park, Ennis on Thurles. Commiserations to Shane who had a fine season in goals for the Connacht college and good luck to Philip in the final.

Barry Heffernan is in a spot of bother during today’s game
Hard luck to Barry Heffernan, Jake Morris and the Tipperary seniors who were defeated by Wexford thanks to a last minute point by Aidan Nolan, 1-15 to 1-14 today in Innovate Wexford Park. The lads must regroup now for the next Sunday when Kilkenny travel to Semple Stadium. Meanwhile there was better news for Grace O’Brien as the Tipperary senior camogs overcame Wexford today in Enniscorthy, 5-11 to 0-8 in the league. Grace managed a first-half point in the game.
Award One Youth Course
The Award One Youth Course is being run by North Tipperary coaching development officer Paudie Malone. Paudie Butler was taking the session last week in Kilruane MacDonagh’s GAA club. Our thanks to our four coaches Mike Corrigan, Tom Coughlan, Tom Boland and Cathal Farrell who are giving up their own time to develop their own coaching knowledge over the five nights of the course. It’s a great course and will greatly benefit the underage players in the club.
Civic Reception

Last week the club was honoured by a civic reception in the council offices on the Limerick Road. Firstly former player and coach Seán Minogue was honoured for his exploits on the pitch and putt courses after he won the British Open and the Dutch open. Secondly our under-11 hurlers were also honoured after winning the All-Ireland Community Games final last summer in Limerick while world champion handballer, Sinead Meagher of Nenagh Handball Club, was recognised for her outstanding achievements in 2018. Also recognised was juvenile coach Brian O’Brien who also won a world handball championship.
The sporting talent in our town is amazing and it is fantastic to see it officially recognised.

Éire Ógre Girls
The third morning of the Éire Ógres got underway at the club last Saturday with almost fifty girls participating in a variety of activities. The children are improving their motor and physical skills with the main focus being on having fun. Help from older siblings and parents has helped hugely in creating a lovely atmosphere in the hall each week and the treats afterwards have ensured that there are lots of happy faces at the end of the session. Registration will take place during the Ógres next week for any child who wishes to continue playing for the year.

Senior County Hurling League Draw
Tipperary Senior Hurling League Champions 2018
The draws took place during the week for the county senior hurling league and Nenagh Éire Óg find ourselves in Division One, Group One. This newly restructured league offers clubs seven competitive matches during the summer months when the senior inter-county teams are in action. This means that clubs will have to play these fixtures without their county players until Tipperary’s interest is finished in the senior championships.
The top two teams in both groups will qualify for the semi-finals while the bottom team is automatically relegated.
Division 1
Group 1: Nenagh Éire Óg, Loughmore Castleiney, Toomevara, Clonoulty Rossmore, Éire Óg Annacarty, Killenaule, Roscrea and Portroe.
Group 2: Upperchurch Drombane, Burgess, Borris-Ileigh, Moycarkey Borris, Thurles Sarsfields, Kilruane MacDonagh’s, Kiladangan and Drom & Inch.
County Junior B Football League and Championship
After the huge interest in playing Gaelic football last summer the club have entered a team into the county junior-B league and championship.
The draw was made for this during the week and in the county championship we have been drawn to play Lorrha & Dorrha, Éire Óg Annacarty and Galtee Rovers.
In the county league we find ourselves in Division Three, Group Two alongside St. Patrick’s, Clerihan and Seán Treacy’s.

Code of Behaviour
The GAA has issued a new Code of Behaviour for all members of the Association and once someone pays their membership they automatically sign up to this new code. In order to preserve our club’s good name we know all of our players, mentors and supporters will continue to present a very positive image of Nenagh Éire Óg on the playing fields and beyond by adhering to all that is set out in the code.

Nenagh EBS sponsored Éire Ógres (girls under-6 & under-8s ) were back for lots more fun and games on Saturday for day two of their four week introductory camp. All the children practice basic fundamental skills and movements. Our thanks to the huge parental support which ensures there is lots of encouragement. Thanks to the hard working committee for providing beautiful treats in the committee room also. Next week there will be a registration morning in the complex during the Ógres for any child who wishes to join up as a member of the camogie club for the year, allowing them to continue training after the camp finishes up.

Fitzgibbon Cup
This week sees the Fitzgibbon Cup semi-finals take place and for once, two Nenagh Éire Óg players will be hoping the other loses as Philip Hickey’s Mary Immaculate College, Limerick take on Shane Hennessy’s NUI Galway. This game is expected to take place in Cusack Park, Ennis on Thursday at 2:20pm.
Philip already got one over on a team mate as his side defeated Cork IT in the quarter final. Andrew Coffey scored two points for the Cork men but it wasn’t enough to help his side progress.
University College Cork play Dublin City University in the other semi final.

The club were delighted to welcome Active Archie to MacDonagh Park on Saturday to the Éire Ógres camp. Active Archie is a member of Ms Lynch’s senior infants class in Kilkeary National School and he was impressed by the great behaviour of all the boys and girls last Saturday morning.

Nenagh Éire Óg’s GAA camp for beginners, kindly sponsored by EBS Nenagh, returns for 2019 each Saturday, from February 2nd to 23rd at the MacDonagh Park Complex from 9.45am-10.45am for boys and 10.45am-11.45am for girls. It is open to all boys born in 2013-2014 and girls born in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. The cost is €10 for the month and the boys and girls will be presented with a certificate and a special Éire Ógres training t-shirt on completion of the course.

Jake sets up Seamus Callanan for his opening goal
Congratulations to Jake Morris, Barry Heffernan and the Tipperary senior hurling team who recorded a comprehensive win over Clare in the opening round of the league on Saturday in Semple Stadium. Jake finished the game with two points to his name while he also played a major role in the build up to Seamus Callanan’s two goals. Best of luck next Saturday evening to everyone involved as they take on Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds.
On Saturday Grace O’Brien came on as a half-time substitute for Tipperary in their league clash against Galway in the Ragg but unfortunately she couldn’t prevent her side from going down to a defeat. Hard luck Grace.

Under-10 Camogie
Under-10 camogie training continues this Saturday at 9am. We are always looking for new talent so all are welcome including newcomers. All girls must wear shin guards and helmets. Please be there for 8:50am to make the most of the hour. €2 per child.

Under-12 training continues every Wednesday evening from 6pm to 7pm in the ball alley
WEEKLY WALK
Our weekly walk continues this Thursday from MacDonagh Park at 7pm with registration from 6:45pm. This walk is open to everyone regardless of fitness and is a fantastic social way to get in shape.

Operation Transformation
Operation Transformation continues this Thursday night, for the next five weeks, from MacDonagh Park with a sign in time of 18:45pm and the walk itself commencing at 19:00pm. All are welcome regardless of fitness levels and absolutely no one will be left behind.

Juvenile Flag Day
The juvenile club’s flag day will take place on Saturday, January 26th. This is a very important fundraiser for the club and your support is needed. If you can volunteer an hour please contact Mel at 087 244 0855 to reserve a preferred slot and location.
Tipperary
Best of luck to Barry Heffernan, Jake Morris and the Tipperary senior hurlers in their opening match of the Allianz Leagues next Saturday when Clare make the trip to Semple Stadium. Throw in is at 7pm.
Hard luck to Grace O’Brien and the Tipperary senior camogie team who were defeated by Cork in the opening round of the league today. Grace appeared as a second-half substitute. They play Galway next weekend.
We also congratulate all our players who received their medals for winning the Munster minor and All-Ireland under-21 championship in 2018. Rory O’Donovan, Seán Phelan and Cian O’Farrell were part of the minor set up while Jake Morris and Shane Hennessy were members of the All-Ireland under-21 squad.

Operation Transformation
Well done to everybody who took part in the Operation Transformation 5K Walk on Saturday in association with Tipperary Sports Partnership. Over 250 people enjoyed the exercise and the refreshments afterwards in the complex. As part of the Ireland Lights Up campaign and Operation Transformation, Nenagh Eire Óg will lead a 5K walking programme beginning this Thursday, January 17th and continuing each Thursday for six weeks. Free to all, registration is at 7.15pm in the complex with the walk starting at 7.30pm. See you all there!

GAA Games Development Conference
The club were represented at the annual GAA Games Development Conference on Saturday last by Niall Cahill, Cyril Bailey, Seán McTiernan, David Minogue and Enda O’Sullivan and with the emphasis on player wellbeing, the five came away with plenty of food for thought. On what was a fantastic event for anyone with an interest in coaching and player development the five were treated to numerous insightful and educational talks with the highlights being Waterford’s Derek McGrath and former world champion boxer Bernard Dunne who both gave insights into their thought process and philosophies on management.
The GAA will be uploading videos from the conference onto their website over the next few days and we recommend that you make it your business to watch both Derek and Bernard’s presentations.

We extend our commiserations to St. Mary’s Nenagh who were beaten by St. Flannan’s Ennis, in the Munster senior B final on Saturday last in Clarecastle on a 1-6 to 1-4 scoreline. The club were represented by Niamh Sheridan, Megan Grace, Caroline Browne, Rachel O’Connor, Lucy Spain and Ciara Sherlock. The team however are not finished yet as they now progress to the All-Ireland series and we wish them the very best in that competition.
Tipperary camogie and indeed our very own club have an awful lot to be thankful for when it comes to St. Mary’s as the school, and in particular Mr. Dulea, have gone above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to promoting camogie. Many players from the school have gone on to represent Tipperary and during the glory years for Tipperary in the late ’90s and early 2000s the team were backboned by former St. Mary’s players. We have no doubt that many of the players on the current team will play a huge role with the clubs and county into the years ahead.

Commiserations go to Nenagh CBS who were agonisingly defeated by a last-ditch goal by CBC Cork, 2-14 to 2-12, in the Dr. Harty Cup quarter-final during the week. Victory seemed assured after Bryan McLoughlin scored what appeared to be a match-winning goal three minutes into injury time but the Cork lads from the resultant puck out worked the ball up the field to score a goal of their own within thirty seconds. Nenagh were represented by Rory O’Donovan, Seán Phelan, Liam Heffernan, Fiachra Starr, Conor Hennessy, Gavin Dooley, Paul McLoughlin, Brendan Long and Conor Robinson while former Nenagh players Donach O’Donnell and Dean Ray were part of the management team.
Once again we wish to thank all the schools in our parish for their continued work in promoting Gaelic games. Teachers and coaches are very generous with their time and knowledge and this is appreciated by everyone in Nenagh Éire Óg.

The club held a lovely and relaxed 5km and 7.5km walk on New Years Day. Our thanks goes to Bartley Ryan and TP Sullivan for organising the event. We are gearing ourselves up for the Operation Transformation walk, in association with RTÉ and Tipperary Sports Partnership, on Saturday 12th January at 10am in MacDonagh Park. This is the ideal way to begin 2019 on a positive and healthy note and with a huge crowd expected it is the ideal way to get some exercise in a social environment.

Jake fires over a first-half point
Congratulations to Jake Morris, Barry Heffernan and the Tipperary senior hurling team who defeated Kerry in MacDonagh Park on Saturday last, 4-20 to 1-14 in the Co-Op Superstores Munster league in front of 1186 patrons. Jake pointed three fantastic points while Barry was superb in the half-back line. Tipperary now face Clare in the final which is due to take place next weekend.

Bloody Sunday
On Saturday evening last, Tipp FM’s Stephen Gleeson paid a visit to Jimmy Morris to interview him for an upcoming documentary to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Bloody Sunday. The Tipperary GAA Bloody Sunday Committee are in the process of planning a number of events to mark the centenary of one of the darkest days in GAA history and Jimmy spoke about an old friend of his from Nenagh, Pat Cleary, who was present on that dreadful day.
The Buff is Back

The popular Kerry hurling fan, Buff Egan, was back in MacDonagh Park on Saturday to see his beloved Kingdom play the Premier and true to form, he was the first patron through the gates. Arguably the most dedicated hurling fan in the country Buff once again happily posed for selfies and even entertained the crowd at half time with his exhibition of free taking while been ably assisted in his Snapchat commentary by Mary Ryan, wife of former Nenagh hurler, Denis.

Director of operations on Saturday last, Ger Morris, busily sorts out another issue on the phone.
In Nenagh Éire Óg we are very fortunate to have an army of volunteers who help out in many different ways throughout the year. Whether it’s parking cars on match day, selling lotto tickets or putting out flags before games everyone has a role to play. There is always something that people can do to help the club in an enjoyable and social environment.
