On Monday afternoon Nenagh Éire Óg beat Kilruane MacDonagh’s 2-13 to 1-13 in the opening round of the north Tipperary under-21A hurling championship – Kilruane are the defending champions and the win gave Blues supporters a great lift following the defeat suffered in Saturday’s junior A county final.

Despite the heartache of losing the county quarter-final on Sunday there is still plenty to savour for the Blues. On Sunday our under-13 hurlers captured the north Tipperary plate in great style while our junior A hurlers are this week preparing to face Skeheenarinky in a county final. And, our under-16 Camogie team have also progressed to their respective county final.

Nenagh Éire Óg’s senior campaign came to an end at Semple Stadium on Sunday afternoon when Liam Heffernan’s men came undone thanks to an Aidan McCormack free in the final minute of extra-time. The Blues walked out of Semple Stadium with their heads held high following a determined display which featured all of the positive values that we have come to associate with this group of players.

The Nenagh Éire Óg senior hurlers will face hot favourites Thurles Sarsfields in a Clean Ireland Recycling County Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final following a six-point win over Kilruane MacDonagh’s at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh on Sunday afternoon. Although the Blues spurned four good goal-scoring chances Liam Heffernan’s men were deserving winners against a determined Kilruane outfit.

The junior Bs lost by the minimum after extra-time in Sunday’s north Tipperary quarter-final replay at Dolla – Éire Óg fought brilliantly and can hold their heads high after a very encouraging year.

The Blues will take on south Tipperary’s Skeheenarinky in the Clean Ireland Recycling County Junior A Hurling Championship final following a 2-12 to 1-12 win over St Patrick’s at Holycross on Saturday afternoon – Éire Óg recovered a three-point interval deficit to register an encouraging win while in their corresponding semi-final Skeheenarinky required an injury time goal to see off Kildangan on a 1-15 to 0-16 scoreline.

While the junior A Camogie team were left broken-hearted following their county semi-final defeat on Sunday there is still plenty to look forward to this coming weekend with the senior hurlers taking on Kilruane, the junior As in county semi-final action against St Patrick’s and the junior B team pitting their wits against Toomevara in a quarter-final replay.
