Our Navy team made the short trip to Dolla to take on our neighbours Silvermines in their semi-final on Saturday morning last. Played under very wet conditions and against the wind, we went in 2-0 to 0-0 at half time. The girls were undaunted went straight to work in the second half, scoring 2-1 in the first 10 minutes. The Mines fought back however, scoring a goal of their own to leave it 3-0 to 2-1 with minutes remaining. Both sides played some great camogie, but Mines managed to handpass the ball over the bar to win by the minimum.
There was big disappointment for our girls but they will now progress to the shield final.
On Sunday morning, our Blue team played Annacarty in their Shield Final. This team have been building to a crescendo all season and saved a great performance for the final. They went at it from the start, using the space intelligently, and defending well when necessary. We led 2-3 to 2-1 at half time, but despite facing the wind in the second half, the girls played some fantastic heads-up camogie. We outscored our opponents to win out 4-5 to 4-1. It was a great win and fully deserved. Captain Mary Carmody lifted the Co Shield for Éire Óg and thanked all the coaches and parents for all they have done during the year.
A special word of thanks to Zoey Grattan, Eimear Ryan, Cyril Bailey and Darragh Quinn for all the great coaching of these girls during the year.
