Nenagh Éire Óg have been drawn away to Upperchurch-Drombane in the first round of the 2013 County Senior Hurling Challenge Cup on Sunday, March 3rd (2.30pm) in Drombane.
Round one draw: Portroe v Knockavilla Kickhams, Cashel King Cormacs v Holycross-Ballycahill, Kilruane MacDonagh’s v Thurles Sarsfields, Templederry Kenyons v Silvermines, Burgess v Moycarkey-Borris, Toomevara v Lorrha-Dorrha, Upperchurch-Drombane v Nenagh Éire Óg, Borrisokane v Killenaule, Moneygall v Clonoulty-Rossmore, Roscrea v Loughmore-Castleiney, Drom & Inch v Carrick Swans, Boherlahan-Dualla v Cappawhite, Golden Kilfeacle v JK Bracken’s, Éire Óg Anacarty v Ballingarry, Kildangan v Mullinahone & Carrick Davins v Borris-Ileigh.
A new format has been introduced for this year’s county senior hurling league which is compulsory for all thirty-two senior teams. Format – Round 1: thirty-two teams play in an open draw format. Round 2A: the sixteen winning teams from round one play off in an open draw. Round 2B: the sixteen losing teams from round one will play off in an open draw. Round 3A: the eight winners from round 2A play off in open draw quarter-finals with the winners playing open draw semi-finals and the winners of the semi-finals playing for the Sweeper Ryan Cup. Round 3B: the eight losers from round 2A will play off in open draw quarter-finals with the winners playing open draw semi-finals and the winners playing for the Jim Devitt Cup. Round 3C: the eight winners from round 2B will play off in open draw quarter-finals with the winners playing open draw semi-finals and the winners of the semi-finals playing for the Dr Fogarty Cup. Round 3C: the eight losers from round 2B will play off in open draw quarter-finals with the winners playing open draw semi-finals and the winners of the semi-finals playing for a trophy/plaque.
The format is a little on the experimental side, but it should make for some competitive games.
