A big week for the Blues as the Éire Óg senior hurlers countdown to Sunday’s county semi-final and our minor hurlers collect a seventh successive north Tipp title in Cloughjordan.
SENIOR
Senior: The Nenagh Éire Óg senior hurlers, led by team captain Noel Maloney, would appreciate your support in Semple Stadium, Thurles on Sunday evening, September 29th when the Blues take on Kildangan in a Clean Ireland Recycling County Senior Hurling Semi-Final (throw-in 5pm). This game will be preceded by the clash of Loughmore-Castleiney & Borris-Ileigh in their corresponding semi-final (throw-in 3.30pm). The lads have worked incredibly hard this year to represent themselves, their family and their town to the very best of their ability. So, we hope to see you all Semple Stadium!
Minor: On Sunday evening last our minor hurlers completed a seven in-a-row of north titles when they defeated Toomevara after extra time in Cloughjordan. After the sides finished level at 2-14 each Éire Óg got the upper hand in extra-time to win by 4-22 to 3-20. Well done to the panel of players and the management team. The west champions will provide the opposition in the county semi-final. The time, venue and date for that fixture will be confirmed in due course. DR HARTY CUP
Nenagh CBS get their 2013-14 Dr Harty Cup campaign underway this week with a number of Éire Óg players expected to feature. On Wednesday, September 25th Nenagh CBS face Midleton CBS in Charleville at 1.30pm. Midleton CBS knocked Nenagh CBS out of the competition last year. So, your support would be appreciated. Nenagh CBS’ remaining group games are against Blackwater Community School (October 23rd), Rochestown (November 6th) & Dungarvan CBS (November 20th). The quarter-finals are scheduled to take place on January 15th, the semi-finals on February 1st and the final on February 23rd. Despite winning the 2012 All-Ireland A Colleges title Nenagh CBS have never won the Harty Cup.
CAMOGIE
Under-10: Our under-10 team had a fantastic challenge game last week against Ballina. Thanks very much to Ballina for playing us. The girls also played in a blitz in Puckane last Saturday against Portroe, Silvermines and the hosts Kildangan. It was an excellent day out and thanks to Kildangan for their hospitality.
Under-12C: Our under-12C team played Lorrha-Dorrha last Saturday and unfortunately came up short against a very good side.
Under-12A: The under-12A side played Kilruane on Monday in Nenagh.
Under-14: The under-14 girls were beaten by Lorrha-Dorrha by four points last Tuesday, but made up for this result defeating Shannon Rovers last Friday by the minimum of margins.
Juniors: The juniors are playing Knockavilla Kickhams in their final group game of the championship on Sunday in Dundrum at 12 noon.
Best Wishes: The Camogie club would like to wish the senior hurlers and management team the very best in their county semi-final this weekend against neighbours Kildangan.
JUVENILE
Under-8: Our under-8 blitz was a roaring success last Saturday morning with the weather helping out in a big way. The team management would like to thank all the lads, our own and visitors, for a great mornings hurling with games against Sixmilebridge, Ahane and Toomevara. Thanks to the parents for the refreshments and to the juvenile club for providing meals for all.
Under-10: More challenge matches are being planned. Further information will be available from the management team later this week.
Under-16: The under-16 hurlers bowed out of the championship with honour on Saturday after losing a semi-final replay against Newport by a single point following over 140 minutes of hurling. This squad showed tremendous character and resilience throughout the year, and won huge respect for the way they represented themselves, their families, Nenagh Éire Óg and their town. This summer will stand to them as under-16s and minors over the next two years as there is huge potential in this team. We would like to thank the parents and families of the squad for all the help and support provided. The full-time score in the semi-final replay was: Nenagh Éire Óg 2-19 Newport Gaels 4-14. The juvenile club would also like to thank the management team of Michael Grey, Paudie Gleeson and Christy McLoughlin for all their hard work and enthusiasm throughout the year.
Thurles: The juvenile club are look forward to seeing all the boys in Thurles on Sunday for the senior county semi-final. Wear your jerseys proudly lads and support your club!
HANDBALL
There will be a registration night for Nenagh Handball Club on Thursday, September 26th at 8pm in the Éire Óg complex. New members welcome. Membership is free for all Nenagh Éire Óg members and is €20 for all others with a maximum of €30 per family.
We wish the best of luck to Sinéad Meagher in her All-Ireland final on Sunday in Garryhill, Co. Carlow and to Eamon Spillane and Gerry Foley as they compete in the Emerald Masters All-Ireland final in Ballina (Tipperary) on Saturday at 3pm against a Galway pairing.

SENIOR
Senior: Our senior hurlers recorded a comfortable win over Silvermines in round four of the championship on Saturday evening last. The Blues now progress to the quarter-final stage where we play one of the divisional winners – final score: 1-21 to 0-8. The quarter-final draw will take place in two weeks’ time with the quarter-finals scheduled to take place on the week-ending September 14th-15th.
Éire Óg join divisional champions Kildangan (north), Éire Óg Annacarty-Donohill (west), Drom & Inch (mid) and Killenaule (south) in the last eight. Loughmore-Castleiney beat Roscrea (0-21 to 2-11) in the fourth round of the county championship on Saturday evening while there are two remaining games in round four (Borris-Ileigh v Carrick & Toomevara v Clonoulty-Rossmore). In the quarter-finals the divisional champions will be seeded.
Junior A: Our junior A team completed the group stage of their championship on Friday evening last with a 2-19 to 3-9 victory over Moneygall. As a result Éire Óg topped their group and progress straight to the semi-finals. The semi-final opposition should be known later this week. On Friday Toomevara face Kildangan in one quarter-final while on Sunday Knockshegowna take on Kilruane MacDonagh’s.
Minor A: Our minor hurlers have completed the group stage of their championship following last week’s win over Kildangan. The semi-final opposition should be known later this week – depending on result of the Roscrea-Kildangan game this week Éire Óg could face Borris-Ileigh, Newport Gaels or Kildangan at the semi-final stage. Toomevara finished second in the group and will play third-placed Roscrea in their respective semi-final.
Hard Luck: We extend our commiserations to former Éire Óg stalwart John Flannery who was a member of the Shannon Rovers panel which lost the north Tipperary intermediate hurling final to Ballina on Sunday evening.
Thanks: Unfortunately the Nenagh Éire Óg junior B team has been withdrawn from the championship. The club would like to thank manager Derek Lillis and all the players for their fantastic efforts this year.
JUVENILE
Under-14: Our under-14 team defeated Toomevara on Thursday evening last in the north semi-final – the final score was 3-9 to 2-9. Our boys now qualify for the north final against Roscrea. This game takes place on Wednesday, August 28th at 6.30pm in MacDonagh Park, Cloughjordan. Please come out and support the team. Also, best wishes to Jake Morris and Mark O’Farrell who travel to Waterford with the Tipperary under-14 team which will participate in the Tony Forristal tournament on Saturday, August 31st.

Under-8: The under-8 team welcomed Borris-Ileigh to Nenagh for a fun and entertaining challenge match on Saturday morning. A great time was had by all.
Under-10: Our thanks to the Silvermines club for hosting an under-10 challenge match on Thursday last. There will be a slight change in training times this Wednesday to enable the boys to go to the under-14 north final. Training will be from 5pm to 6pm.
Under-16: The re-scheduled Roscrea fixture will not now go ahead and Nenagh have been handed a walk-over. There is still the final league match against Kilruane to be played with no date set as yet.
Recycling Drive: Please bring your unwanted clothing, bedding, curtains and shoes to the clubhouse on Saturday, August 31st from 10-4pm to take part in our Recycling Fundraising Drive. All proceeds go to the juvenile club and in turn back to the boys.
CAMOGIE
Minor: The minor team defeated Kilruane MacDonagh’s 2-16 to 0-08 last Monday in the championship. They play Silvermines this Thursday at 7pm in Nenagh.
HANDBALL
Congratulations to Sinéad Meagher who is the new Munster under-13 singles champion. She beat Cork opponents in the 60 x 30 competition last Saturday. She now joins her sister, Eimear Meagher, who recently won the Munster under-14 singles 60 x 30 title. This is a great achievement for the club and these very talented girls. Hard luck to Aaron Hogan and Eoin Meagher who reached the Munster semi-finals of the under-17 doubles before losing out to Limerick opponents.
We all wish the very best of luck to Munster representatives, Nenagh coach Eamon Spillane and partner Gerry Foley of Ballinahinch as they take on Monaghan and Ulster winners in the All-Ireland semi-final of the Emerald Masters competition in Cavan on Saturday.

SENIOR
Junior A: Our junior A team will look to maintain their one hundred per cent winning start to the championship on Friday evening when they play Toomevara in Moneygall at 7.30pm.
Minor A: Our minor hurlers were scheduled to play Kilruane MacDonagh’s on Tuesday evening, but that game was called off since Kilruane gave the Blues a walkover.
Best Wishes: Best wishes to Tommy Heffernan, Daire Quinn and the Tipperary under-21 team in Wednesday evening’s Munster final against Clare in Semple Stadium, Thurles (throw-in 7.30pm).
Commiserations: Hard luck to Paul O’Leary who was a member of the Tipperary minor football panel which lost to Monaghan in an All-Ireland quarter-final played in Longford on Monday afternoon.
County Championship Guide: In round three Nenagh Éire Óg beat Upperchurch-Drombane while Roscrea beat Moycarkey-Borris 1-12 to 1-11. Those results leave two remaining games in round three: Borris-Ileigh face Burgess on August 10th while Templederry Kenyons take on Toomevara on August 17th. Following those games four teams in all progress to round four where these teams will play the losing divisional finalists. Thus far we know that Silvermines (north finalists) and Carrick Swans (south finalists) will feature in round four. Two divisional finals remain to be played: Loughmore-Castleiney v Drom & Inch (mid final fixed for August 11th), Clonoulty-Rossmore v Éire Óg Annacarty-Donohill (west final fixed for August 11th).
Therefore Nenagh Éire Óg could meet Silvermines, Carrick Swans, the loser of the Loughmore-Castleiney v Drom & Inch clash or the loser of the west final between Clonoulty-Rossmore and Éire Óg Annacarty-Donohill in the fourth round. The winners of the fourth round games progress to the county quarter-finals – north champions Kildangan and south champions Killenaule are already assured of their place in the last eight.
Éire Óg’s fourth round game could potentially take place on the week-ending of August 24th.

JUVENILE
Under-12: The under-12 group one hurlers qualified for the north final on Wednesday last following a hard-fought victory over Roscrea. In an excellent game of hurling Éire Óg came through by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline of 0-11 to 1-7. The group one team have now joined the group four team in the finals – both finals take place in Borrisoleigh on Saturday next, August 10th with the group four game against Templederry Kenyons at 11.30am and the group one final versus the winners of Borrisokane and Kildangan at 1.30pm. Please come out and support both teams on the day!
Under-14: The north Tipperary under-14A hurling quarter-final against Kildangan scheduled for August 8th will now take place a week later on Wednesday, August 15th in Puckane.
Under-16: Well done to the Nenagh Éire Óg under-16A hurlers who beat an excellent Toomevara on Monday evening at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh on a 3-8 to 1-10 scoreline. The under-16A championship continues with an away match against Borrisokane on Monday, August 15th at 6.45pm.
CAMOGIE
Junior B: Our junior team were scheduled to play Ballina on Monday last, but the game was postponed and will be re-fixed for a later date.
Congratulations: Congratulations to the Tipperary under-16 Camogie team which won the All-Ireland final on Saturday last when the Premier defeated Galway in Portlaoise. Éire Óg had four girls on the panel – Saoirse Gleeson, Rachel Maher, Racher Spillane and Grace O’Brien. This is a fantastic achievement and we send our congratulations to all involved.
Minors: Playing next Tuesday against Clonoulty-Rossmore.
Bag Packing: Last Friday and Saturday in Tesco we had our bag packing fundraiser. Thanks to the players and parents that helped out.

Nenagh Éire Óg lost heavily to an excellent Ballina team in the opening round of the Watch Centre North Tipperary Junior B Hurling Championship, but battled right to the end.

Nenagh Éire Óg 1-9 Ballina 4-22
Nenagh Éire Óg lost out to a terrific Ballina side at Portroe this afternoon. And, although the Blues suffered a 22-point defeat the lads battled to the last and showed great pride in their approach to the game.
The clash with Ballina represented Éire Óg’s opening group game in the 2013 north championship. The Blues will also face Newport, Ballinahinch and Portroe in group two. Group one consists of Templederry, Toomevara, Silvermines & Borrisokane while Kildangan have withdrawn from the competition.
Ballina started well and hit the net after just fourteen seconds. Ballina led 1-1 to no-score before David Cleary got Éire Óg off the mark in the seventh minute. Two further points helped Ballina into a 1-3 to 0-1 before John Donnellan set up Paul Slattery for a terrific Éire Óg goal in the 12th minute. Three minutes later David Cleary converted a free to leave two between the sides (1-2 to 1-4).
Three Ballina points opened a five-point gap before Jamie Gallagher responded for Éire Óg in the 21st minute. Ballina then fired 1-3 without reply to lead 2-10 to 1-3 by the 26th minute. Luke Kennedy responded for Éire Óg, but Ballina closed out the half in impressive fashion firing 2-3 without reply (the third and fourth goals arrived in the 34th and 35th minutes respectively). Half-time: Nenagh Éire Óg 1-4 Ballina 4-13.
Éire Óg battled on manfully in the second half. Indeed, a David Cleary free got the Blues off to an ideal start. Ballina, however, responded with four points of their own before Luke Kennedy struck for a fine point in the 41st minute. A minute later David Cleary converted a free while Aidan Healy fired over a placed ball in the 47th minute – 1-7 to 4-17.
Ballina surged toward the final whistle with five consecutive points while John Donnellan enjoyed the final say in the matter with a point in the 61st minute.

Following a win over Borris-Ileigh in the league final the Nenagh Éire Óg junior A hurlers will now hope to successfully defend their north Tipperary junior A hurling championship title.
North Tipperary Junior A Hurling League Final
Nenagh Éire Óg 0-13 Borris-Ileigh 0-11
Nenagh Éire Óg battled their way to a two-point win over a determined Borris-Ileigh side at Dolla on Sunday evening in the north Tipperary junior A hurling league final.
Having played with the aid of a stiff breeze in the opening half Éire Óg led 0-8 to 0-3 at the break, but dug in superbly late in the second half when Borris-Ileigh closed the gap to two points. Indeed, Éire Óg were very good value for this win with captain Eoin Fitzgibbon collecting the league trophy for the third successive year.
Early points from David Hackett (free) and Paul Ryan helped Éire Óg into an early lead before Borris-Ileigh responded in kind. Two David Hackett points fired Éire Óg into a 0-4 to 0-2 lead by the 13th minute and even though Borris-Ileigh managed a response points from Brian Quinn and David Hackett (free) forced Éire Óg into a 0-6 to 0-3 lead by the 20th minute.
In the 24th minute Bob O’Brien was denied a certain goal by a superb save from the Borris-Ileigh ‘keeper. Éire Óg closed out the opening half with points from Gary Howard and Andrew Coffey to lead 0-8 to 0-3 at the break.

Two quick Borris-Ileigh points immediately after the interval closed the gap significantly before a David Hackett free settled Éire Óg in the 34th minute – 0-9 to 0-5.
A Borris-Ileigh point reduced the Blues’ lead to three points, but Éire Óg responded with two David Hackett frees to lead 0-11 to 0-6 with eighteen minutes to play.
Two Borris-Ileigh frees cut the Éire Óg lead significantly before an Andrew Coffey flick in the 47th minute bounced agonisingly wide of the Borris-Ileigh goal. A minute later Donnacha Quinn scored a vital point for Éire Óg before two Borris-Ileigh points closed the gap to a very manageable two points (0-12 to 0-10) with four minutes to play.
Éire Óg stood their ground manfully in the closing minutes with a late David Hackett effort from play forcing the Blues into a three-point lead. Borris-Ileigh did manage another point, but the Éire Óg defence refused to cough up a late goal-scoring opportunity.
Nenagh Éire Óg would like to thank all the players for their efforts during the campaign. Credit for this win also goes to the management team which consists of Martin Morris, Michael Ryan and Christy McLoughlin.
The junior A hurlers will now hope to successfully defend their north Tipperary junior A hurling title. In the championship Éire Óg have been drawn in group two alongside Toomevara, Roscrea, Kilruane MacDonagh’s and Moneygall. Group one features Borris-Ileigh, Kildangan, Knockshegowna, Lorrha and Burgess. The group winners will progress to the semi-finals while the second and third-placed teams will go through to the quarter-finals.
