Volunteers
On Saturday last, we hosted the Arrabawn Tournament, with eight teams participating in what was a fantastic day of hurling in MacDonagh Park.
We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our army of volunteers who helped make the day such a success. We are very fortunate in the club to have so many people willing to put their shoulder to the wheel to ensure that all matches are properly staffed and that the tournament runs smoothly.
These games are important not only to the club but to the town in general, bringing much-needed business to the area and showcasing Nenagh to visiting teams and supporters.
We are extremely grateful to everyone who gives their time and effort to help make these events happen. Your contribution is hugely appreciated and is a vital part of what makes days like this possible.

Solar Eclipse Hurling Thriller: Bibs Just Eclipse Non-Bibs in Astro Epic
It was a night when the sun disappeared from the sky – but it was the bibs who ensured the opposition disappeared from the scoreboard!

In a Social ‘Ground’ Hurling spectacular on the Astro last Wednesday, a game that arguably eclipsed the earlier solar eclipse for sheer excitement, drama and sporting theatre, the bibs team of Eamon Moylan, Ger Ryan and John Phelan narrowly edged past – or should that be eclipsed – their non-bibs rivals Jamie Kennedy and Conor O’Donovan by the slimmest of margins, emerging victorious on a sensational 13-12 scoreline.
Played over three pulsating 10-minute periods, the bibs came roaring out of the darkness and into the light, establishing a commanding 5-1 lead at the first water break. Ger and Eamon found the net while John produced a string of penalty saves that would have had even the most seasoned goalkeepers seeing stars.
Conor was the lone ray of light for the non-bibs, finding the net to keep his side within touching distance.
But if the non-bibs thought they had been plunged into total darkness, they were about to discover that this game was far from over.
The bibs came out blazing after the restart, firing three unanswered goals to stretch their advantage. Surely the game was slipping beyond the non-bibs?
Not a bit of it!
Refusing to let the scoreboard cast a shadow over their night, Jamie and Conor finally solved the mystery of the bibs’ diamond formation and launched a spectacular comeback. Jamie, in particular, turned on the goal-scoring brilliance, and suddenly the darkness was lifting.
Nine goals apiece!
The Astro was rocking. The eclipse had nothing on this.
Then, just when it looked as though the momentum had swung completely towards the non-bibs, Ger Ryan stepped into the spotlight. With the clock ticking towards the second interval, he calmly steadied the ship with a crucial tap-in goal to restore the bibs’ advantage.
The final period delivered yet another celestial twist.
A switch in positions between Eamon and John injected fresh energy into the bibs’ attack and, suddenly, they were operating in perfect alignment. Three goals came in rapid succession, with John proving particularly lethal, slotting home twice as the bibs appeared to have moved into an unassailable orbit.
But Jamie and Conor were not finished.
Not even close.
With the final whistle approaching, the non-bibs duo launched one last extraordinary assault. Three goals without reply sent shockwaves around the Astro and brought them within one goal of levelling the contest.
Then came the moment of the night.
With the equaliser seemingly written in the stars, the non-bibs launched one final effort – only for Eamon to produce a sensational reflex save right on the stroke of full time.
The ball stayed out.
The eclipse passed.
And the bibs had survived.
FINAL SCORE: BIBS 13 – 12 NON-BIBS
Ger Ryan led the scoring charts with a phenomenal six goals, Eamon contributed five and John added two. But while the bibs may have claimed the glory, Jamie and Conor deserve enormous credit for their never-say-die comeback, with six goals apiece and the game ultimately going right down to the final seconds.
It was a night when the sun disappeared, the stars came out and the Social Ground Hurling lived up to its billing as the greatest show on the Astro.
One thing is certain: next Wednesday’s session, throwing in at 8.15pm, cannot come quickly enough.
