Double Champions Nenagh Éire Óg Under-15s

The traditional visit for ice-creams to JKCs
Nenagh Éire Óg under-15 boys completed a rare double recently, winning the county Féile na nGael under-15 hurling and the Peil na nÓg under-15 football championships. Durlas Óg achieved this feat in 2018, 2021 and 2022 and we are unaware of any other team to have done so. Indeed, it is only the third time Nenagh have won the Féile, the previous occasions in 1993 and 1988, and our third time to win the Peil, having won it in 2019 and 1986.
Having won the county, the boys now have the honour of representing Tipperary in both codes. On Saturday 20th June, the boys travel to Laois to play in the Féile National Finals and a week later, on Saturday 27th June, they travel to Derry to play in the Peil National Finals. The juvenile club is busy fundraising to cover the costs of both trips. All support is greatly appreciated.
Peil na nÓg 2026 finally took place on Saturday 25th April after being postponed due to the fuel crisis. Our boys were drawn to play in Cashel against Cashel King Cormacs and Moyle Rovers. In the other Division 1 group, JK Brackens, Clonmel Commercials and Rockwell Rovers played in New Inn.
Having won the North under-13 final in 2024 and narrowly lost to Moyle Rovers in the county semi-final at A and D level, the boys were keen to get a chance to test themselves against the best teams in the county.
In the first game, the boys started slowly against Cashel but quickly settled into the game, running out comprehensive winners with some well-taken scores, winning 8-5 to 1-3. In the second game, the boys renewed rivalries with Moyle Rovers and again won by a big score. Kirsters Janitens was in inspired form at full forward, having missed the county semi-final two years ago through injury. Final score: 4-6 to 1-3.
Having topped the group, the boys were into the final against JK Brackens, who topped the other group. JK Brackens were county under-13 champions two years ago, so the boys knew they had a good test ahead of them.
The final was a tough battle but, just as the boys had shown all day, they were not going to be outworked by anyone. The boys worked incredibly hard throughout the day. They hunted in packs and supported each other time after time.
Again, our defence was excellent, conceding very little in the final, and our forwards did the business once more. Indeed, the Brackens goalkeeper was probably man of the match in the final, making numerous incredible saves from the boys. The final score was 3-1 to 0-2.
On the day, Dylan Corrigan was excellent in goal, conceding very little and delivering great kick-outs. The full-back line of Vadzim Siareolzich, Evan Jones and Michael Nolan were not beaten at any stage of the day. Fionn Tucker anchored the defence brilliantly from centre-back while Harry Bailey and Max Coughlan ran tirelessly up and down the field. Paraic Sheehy and Harry Coughlan were a joy to watch in midfield, catching kick-outs and linking play between defence and attack. The half-forward line of Odhran Cahill, David Mullarkey and Daniel O’Leary never stopped all day, constantly breaking up the field, supporting each other and contributing scores. The full-forward line of Jake Rivett, Kirsters Janitens and Alex Hogan caused huge problems for opposition defences throughout the day.

Mike and Alex Hogan
Our substitutes rotated on and brought huge energy and pace. Finn Morris scored a cracking goal against Cashel, while Donagh Farrell hit the post with a goal-bound effort in the final. Sean Tully, James Cleary and Harry Mulcahy brought huge skill and effort throughout the day.

After the game, joint captains David Mullarkey and Kevin Hogan accepted the cup from PJ Bowden of Tipperary Bord na nÓg. Kevin was a huge loss to the boys due to injury, but his encouragement and support at every training session have been unbelievable. Kevin was the only player from this group to make the North Mid under-14 Football panel last year, so his loss was significant, and we look forward to having him back training soon. Kevin and David thanked the referee and Cashel for hosting the competition.
Great celebrations took place back in Nenagh. The team paraded the cup through the town in convoy. Thanks to the Juvenile Club for organising food for them back at MacDonagh Park. From there, the boys made the traditional journey to JKC’s for ice cream from club legend Michael Cleary. Michael told the boys how county-winning teams have been returning to the shop for a cone since the 1970s, a tradition begun by his father.
The boys now have the Peil na nÓg National Finals to prepare for in Derry on Saturday 27th June when they will represent Tipperary against the best teams in the country.
Thanks to all the parents for their huge support throughout the day.

Féile na nGael Division 1 Champions 2026

Nenagh Éire Óg made history on the May Bank Holiday Monday by winning the Féile and Peil double for the first time in the club’s history. Indeed, it was the third time the club have won the Peil (2019 & 1986) and only the third time we have won the Féile (1993 & 1988).
What a week it has been for this group of boys. They played Mullinahone in the first match in MacDonagh Park at 12.00. Drom & Inch had to withdraw, so the game was played over 25 minutes per half. Nenagh were well ahead at half-time, but Mullinahone stormed back into the game to reduce an eleven-point deficit to a one-score game. Mullinahone were dogged and determined and made the boys work for every score they got. In the end, the boys won a tough battle by two points.
Toomevara came through the other group comfortably, having beaten Cashel and Boherlahan in shorter games. Toomevara were county under-13 champions two years ago when they beat our boys in the North Final by a few points.
The boys started the final brightly. It was end-to-end stuff. Dylan Corrigan got a great goal only for Oliver Duff to reply with one of his own for Toomevara. Things were level approaching half-time when we lost a player to a second yellow card and had to see out the game with only fourteen players. Rather than sit back after losing one of our strongest players, the boys dug deep to outwork the opposition for the remainder of the game. The boys showed huge character to work so hard for 20 minutes with only 14 players and it is a credit to their heart and spirit that they would not be bettered on the day.
Fionn Tucker struck a goal and Toomevara replied with one of their own through Aidan O’Gorman. Frees were converted by both teams, each one seeming more valuable than the last as time ticked away.

Nenagh Éire Óg ran out winners by two points, 2-7 to 2-5, to the relief of the huge crowd.
Captains Paraic Sheehy and the injured Kevin Hogan accepted the Tommy Barrett Cup from PJ Bowden and Michelle McKelvey of Tipperary Bord na nÓg. Huge celebrations followed, as it is so rare to win any county final, but to win one on your own pitch was especially memorable.
As is customary, the boys paraded around the town, beeping horns and displaying both the Féile and Peil cups before heading to JKC’s to be treated to ice cream by Michael Cleary. Thanks to Michael and Caitríona for treating the boys on both occasions.
Thanks to all the parents for their huge support throughout the day.
