THE HURLING HERMIT: KENNEDY HONES HIS WEAPONS FOR WAR
Under the cold glare of the Astro lights, while the rest of the world slept soundly, one lone warrior marched into battle with nothing but a hurley, a sliotar and a savage appetite for greatness. Last night’s Social ‘Ground’ Hurling session became the Jamie Kennedy Show — a breathtaking symphony of ash, leather and relentless ambition.

Like a gladiator sharpening his sword before war, Kennedy unleashed a masterclass of ball-striking artistry that would have made the ancient kings of hurling rise from their graves and applaud. The opening drill was pure poetry in motion — first-time strikes fired off the wall with the venom of cannon blasts, left side, right side, forwards, backwards and sideways — the man moved like a storm across the Astro turf, every touch crackling with intent.
Then came the second act and the tempo exploded. Side-to-side striking, doubling on the rebound with the hunger of a predator chasing wounded prey. Kennedy attacked every sliotar as though the fate of a county final depended on it, surging forward again and again, ash flashing under the floodlights like lightning splitting the night sky.
But the final drill? Sweet mercy. This was warrior stuff. One touch to tame the rebel sliotar, one savage strike to send it screaming back against the wall, then repeat… and repeat… and repeat at breakneck speed. It was rhythm, rage and raw skill fused into one relentless exhibition of determination.
After each ferocious battle with the ball, the warrior paused only briefly — a solitary one-minute water break to quench the fires within before charging once more into the fray.
When the dust finally settled and the echoes of clashing sliotar faded into the Nenagh night, there could be only one verdict: Jamie Kennedy, undisputed MVP, conquering the Astro arena with a performance for the ages.
Roll on next Wednesday at 8.15pm — because if this was only training, heaven help the opposition when the real battles begin.
