Get Fit for 2020
The Get Fit for 2020 Challenge got off to a great start last Tuesday at the Éire Óg Complex. The circuits session led by Shane Connolly on Tuesday was super and the running session led by Tom Boland on Thursday on the pitch suited all levels who signed up to the challenge.
This is a fantastic opportunity to get fit as we arrive into Spring – there is no pressure, it’s a friendly atmosphere and everyone sets their own goals. Not too late to join us as there are still nine weeks to go.

Rachel Maher in action for LIT against UL
Under-12
Under-12 training resumed this week with a great turnout. Our training times are Tuesday 6-7pm at Nenagh College and Thursday 6.30-7.30pm at the Eire Og pitch. A great showing also from the parents of the under-12s at the circuit and laps on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Under-10
The under-10 girls started back training on Saturday morning in Nenagh College astroturf at 9.00. Great numbers for the first day back. If any girl born in 2011/2012 would like to come along they are more the welcome to try it out.
Éire Ogres
The Éire Ogres will run in March this year and more information will be made available on this in the middle of February.
Registration
A registration date will be announced in the coming weeks for players.
Seniors
Training starts this Thursday at 7.30pm in field and Sunday at 10am. New or past members welcome to join for the coming season. Congratulations to Rachel Maher and Maeve Coffey on winning with LIT v UL during the week in the Purcell Cup. They are now through the quarter finals of this competition and we wish them well.

Commiserations go to Jake Morris and the Tipperary senior hurlers who were defeated by Limerick, 2-14 to 0-18, in Semple Stadium on Saturday evening. Jake scored three points. The lads now face Cork in Páirc Uí Chaoimh next weekend.

Get Fit for 2020 Challenge with Nenagh Éire Óg
Nenagh Éire Óg Camogie Club would like to welcome any players from under-12s upwards, parents of players and any members of the Nenagh Éire Óg GAA & Camogie Club are welcome to take part. Under-18s will be free of charge. The idea and timing of the sessions is based on allowing parents and members to drop their children to after-school activities and attend the fitness session for an hour to make the most of their time.
There is no need to register in advance, please just show up wearing suitable clothing and bring some water and join the Get Fit for 2020 Challenge.

Borris-Ileigh
All of us here in Nenagh Éire Óg wish to commiserate with Borris-Ileigh who were defeated by Ballyhale Shamrocks in the All-Ireland club final in Croke Park today. Borris-Ileigh have been fantastic representatives of the Premier county since they captured the Dan Breen Cup, sweeping all before them in their run to the final. Watching the game it was obvious that every player died with their boots on and left every ounce of energy they had on the Croke Park surface.

2020 Membership
Club membership for 2020 is now open with four great options to suit everyone’s needs. Membership entitles you to access to our facilities as well as voting rights at our AGM and cover under the GAA injury benefit fund.
All players are reminded that they will not be allowed play for or train with the club without paying their membership.

The camogie club have announced details of a fantastic initiative to help people with their New Year’s fitness goals with a series of circuit and running sessions which will culminate in a 5km run on March 24. For more details on this amazing offer to our community please click here.
Operation Transformation
The 2020 Tipperary Sports Partnership Operation Transformation 5km walks will begin on Saturday, January 18th, from the Nenagh Éire Óg Complex. The walk starts at 11 am and everyone is welcome to take part. All participants must sign in on that morning prior to walk. To kick start our new year in the club our Juvenile teams will lead the walk with their management teams.
Light Up Your Club Walk
Our mid-week walks continues on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from MacDonagh Park and they commence at 7pm. New walkers are welcome to join on both evenings or just one evening a week. All levels of fitness are catered for and you can walk at your own pace. Just sign in on the evening of your choice from 6.50pm with the walk beginning at 7pm. Why not bring a friend along and chat throughout your walk?

We have a number of players involved with various colleges in the next few weeks and we wish them the very best of luck as they seek glory with their respective teams.

Nenagh Handball Club had a fantastic day on Saturday, winning a number of North Tipperary championships.
Cassandra Jones was runner up in the under-14 singles, while Emmet Jones and partner Stephen McNamara captured the under-13 doubles. Billy O’Brien won the under-13 championship and Kevin Liston was runner up in the under-14 singles.

Barry Coffey

Congratulations to Barry Coffey who signed a new contract with soccer club Celtic FC that will keep him at the Scottish giants until the summer of 2022.
In a statement Celtic FC commented that “Coffey’s hard work in Tommy McIntyre’s reserves last campaign saw him called up to the Scottish champions’ pre-season training camp in Austria and Switzerland in June. There, he played for the senior side for the first time against SC Pinkafeld.
In the weeks that followed, Coffey represented his country at the UEFA European Under-19 Championship, and is now determined to work hard to keep himself in Neil Lennon’s wider plans at club level.
Speaking at Celtic Park, Coffey said: “I’m over the moon and it’s nice to finally get the new deal over the line. I’m delighted and it’s nice to celebrate the hard work over the last two years that’s led to this point. Now, I can’t wait to get to work and continue to prove my worth at this great club.
“At the start of the season, it was an unreal experience to be involved with the first team and to play a few games in Austria. And then I was away with Ireland U-19s at the Euros, which was another fantastic experience. Now, I’ll work as hard as I can at Celtic, and can hopefully catch the gaffer’s eye again.”

The club held its annual race day on Sunday, 29 December in Limerick Race Course and it turned out to be a huge success with many from the town attending what proved to be a fun-filled afternoon of horse racing. We wish to thank all the organisers especially Eddie Sheary as well as our generous sponsors without who’s kindness the event could not have succeeded as well as the staff at Limerick Race Course for all their assistance.

Paul and Elaine

We all wish to congratulate Paul Lillis on his marriage on Saturday last to his very own Galway girl, Elaine Kelly, at a beautiful ceremony in St. Killian’s Church, New Inn.
Paul, an extremely talented water and hurley carrier, has been a stalwart of the club all his life, never failing to help out when called upon and is currently embarking on a five-year long logistics managerial apprenticeship. The reception was held afterwards in Loughrea where talented poet, linguist and orator Mattie Lillis spoke passionately and eloquently for 47 minutes to an enthralled and captive audience while best man, David Sherlock, recounted Paul’s brief golf career.
The club sends Paul and Elaine our best wishes on their wonderful journey as they begin their new lives together.

If you would like to participate you are more than welcome to join us in our walks around the town from 7pm to 8pm every Tuesday and Thursday evening from MacDonagh Park, starting 7th January.

Juvenile Medal Presentation

On Friday evening last in MacDonagh Park, our victorious juvenile hurling, camogie and Gaelic football teams were presented with their medals from the various competitions that they won in 2019. Strength and conditioning coach Darragh Droog spoke to the players about how they can improve their own performances and fitness levels by making some simple changes in their lives such as ensuring they get a proper night’s sleep.
Presenting the medals were All-Ireland senior hurling championship winners Barry Heffernan and Jake Morris along with Tipperary senior camogie and Gaelic football players Grace O’Brien and Callan Scully.
We wish to thank all of those who helped organise the evening, the parents/guardians, the panelists and their mentors along with our special guests on the night.
Santa Claus is coming to town….
In preparation for the big day, the big man Santa Claus made a visit to MacDonagh Park where he met all our young boys and girls and presented them with a small gift to reward them for their exemplary behaviour all year with Éire Óg.
We wish to thank Santa for taking time out of his busy schedule and to all who co-ordinated the visit with Fr. Christmas to ensure our juveniles had a wonderful time.

Inter-divisional Football
The Tipperary Bórd na nÓg inter-divisional football tournaments concluded this weekend and we were well represented throughout the month on the North Tipperary panels. At under-13 level Eoin Garrigan, Michael Moylan and mentor Shane Connolly were in hard luck to lose the shield final by a single point. Mikey had the honour of captaining the North division.
Our under-14 lads Cian Connolly, Zac Keller, Aodán O Connor and Keelan Rice were part of the Mick Frawley Under-14 shield final winning team today while Christy McLoughlin, mentor with the North Tipp under-15 squad, was in hard luck to also lose out by a point to the West today in the Tom Collum Under-15 shield final. Well done to our lads and their North Tipperary teammates for representing their clubs with distinction.

It was a disappointing weekend for our senior and junior-A hurlers, for the first time since Mark Sheahan we have a player on the Tipperary senior football panel and the under-8 boys finish up their year after ten months of fun. All this and more in this week’s news on the Blues

Commiserations go to our senior hurlers who were defeated by Kiladangan in the FBD Insurance Tipperary senior hurling championship semi-final in Semple Stadium on Sunday on a 1-15 to 3-12 scoreline.
We wish to thank John Brennan, Noel Maloney and the senior management team as well as the wonderful panel of players for all their efforts this year. While we didn’t win the Dan Breen Cup there’s no doubt that it wasn’t for the want of trying and no stone was left unturned by everyone involved.

The lads fought bravely back from being five-points down with nineteen minutes to play to lead by one, deep in stoppage time, following a monster John Cahalan point however, the gods were not shinning down on the Blues and Rovers worked the ball up the field and it eventually came to Donough Leahy who blasted the winning goal from close range. It was a heart-breaking way to lose out but huge credit must go to the panel for the determination in which they played to bring themselves right back into the game. The club wishes to thank manager Eddie Tucker and his officials as well as the panel of players for all their efforts this year.

We extend our best wishes to Callan Scully who has been invited by new manager David Power to join the Tipperary senior football panel. This will come as no surprise to anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing him in action for the club and county underage teams in recent years. The last Nenagh Éire Óg man to play senior football for Tipperary was Mark Sheahan and we have no doubt that Callan will follow in Mark’s footsteps and enjoy a long inter-county career.
Junior Football
The club have entered the North Tipperary junior football championship and preparations for this will begin soon. Players will be informed shortly of training and if anyone would like to take part please contact any of the management.

Under-8
The under-8 boys finished up their year on Saturday morning after ten months together. We had a fun morning in MacDonagh Park with lots of treats afterwards. 40 boys took part throughout the year. There were over fifteen blitzes. Thanks to all the parents who worked tirelessly all year in so many different ways on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Best wishes to all the boys moving on to under-10 next year and to the boys remaining with the under-8s. We hope all the boys continue to practise their skills in hurling and football at home and in school throughout the winter before returning to training in the New Year.
Club Walking Group
The club’s walking group continue their activities around the town this week with organised walks, leaving MacDonagh Park, at 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday. Absolutely everyone is welcome come along regardless of fitness levels or whether you’re from the town or not. Come along and get some fresh air and exercise in this social and relaxing environment.

Senior Hurling
In the battle of the Young Irelanders, our senior hurlers defeated Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill on Saturday afternoon in The Ragg in the FBD Insurance county quarter-final on a 4-15 to 1-8 scoreline. Nenagh got the perfect start when a Jake Morris effort was brilliantly blocked by Darragh Mooney but the Annacarty net-minder could do nothing to stop Conor Hennessy sticking the rebound home for the opening goal of the game inside the opening fifteen seconds. Morris himself got in on the goalscoring act with two of his own while Andrew Coffey added the fourth deep in the second half. We wish a speedy recovery to Shane Hennessy who were forced off early due to injury. We play Kiladangan in the county semi-final this Sunday at 1:45pm in Semple Stadium while Borris-Ileigh play Kilruane MacDonagh’s in the other semi-final at 3:30pm.

Our junior-A hurlers had a fantastic win over Skeheenarinky in Leahy Park, Cashel on Sunday last in the county quarter-final on a 2-14 to 1-15 scoreline. Killian Malone got Nenagh’s opening goal while Craig Hilmi added the second. The lads have been drawn to play West side Arravale Rovers in the county semi-final in Templederry at 4pm Saturday.

Our under-15 hurlers finished their year on Sunday morning when they were beaten by Ballina in the hurling plate final in Ballina 1-20 to 2-8. We wish to thank the entire panel of players, their mentors, parents and guardians for all their hard work this year and many lifelong memories have been created in 2019 and we look forward to many more in 2020.

Our under-8 boys travelled to Sixmilebridge Saturday morning last to play Sixmilebridge of Clare and Clarinbridge of Galway. Four teams travelled from Éire Óg with all teams doing extremely well. There was great excitement over the past few weeks over the return visit to Sixmilebridge. Thanks to our hosts for providing food for all the visitors.
