Tipperary
On Thursday last the Tipperary panels for the upcoming Munster minor and senior campaigns were announced and we wish to congratulate Barry Heffernan and Jake Morris who are both part of Liam Sheedy’s senior set up while Paul McLoughlin is included in the minor panel. Congratulations lads, it is both an honour and privilege to wear the Blue & Gold.
We also extend our best wishes to Conor McCarthy who lines out for the Tipperary under-20s in the Tom O’Hara tournament in Gortnahoe tomorrow at 7pm.
Tipperary Club Draw
What better way to help Nenagh Éire Óg build our new field and Tipperary win an All-Ireland than to win a new a car or a family holiday to Australia! We think that you deserve it! This week launches the 2019/20 Tipperary Clubs Draw and with the first one taking place in Borrisoleigh on May 10th, the drive is on to get new members. All new members, whether connected with the juvenile club or not, will be entered in to a draw for a signed Tipperary jersey, summer camp passes and spot prizes for children sponsored by the juvenile club.
For what works out as €2.50 a week for ten months, usually paid as €10 per month direct debit or to a club promoter, you will be entered into monthly draws for the amazing prizes listed in the promotional poster. Between 50% and 70% of ticket sales, depending on numbers sold (let’s make it to 70%!), will be returned to the club and will be used to develop our new field.
Some of our own Tipperary senior and under-20 hurlers will be in MacDonagh Park on Saturday morning to meet our under-6 and under-8 boys and kick-start our membership drive. Please think about joining. We will be there from 10am-11.30am to if you are interested. It’s a win-win for all!
Juvenile News
Under-7 & Under-8
Our under-8 boys had their first hurling blitz of the year when Kilruane MacDonagh’s came in to play us this Saturday morning. There were huge numbers on both sides with over 75 taking part in total. All teams played three games and great fun was had. Our thanks as always for the food provided by the parents and to county players Barry Heffernan, Conor McCarthy and Sean Phelan for calling in to meet the boys. Football training continues every Tuesday from 6pm-7pm, hurling every Wednesday 5.30-6.30 and Saturday from 10am-11am. Great to see so many new faces lately.
Congratulations Big Sam
Congratulations to Sam O’Farrell on his county final win in the county Féile skills final in Boherlahan last weekend. Sam now goes on to represent Tipperary in the All-Ireland finals.
County finals of Feile skills were held todsy in Boherlshan

Well done to both

Under-10
Well done to our under-9 & under-10 boys who played their first competitive hurling matches with Murroe Boher on Saturday morning last. It was very competitive and great to see the boys using what we are doing at training with clashing, hooking, handpassing etc coming into play but also the tackling and fighting for the ball. Hurling Blitz next Friday evening v Ahane in Nenagh. Children need to be in field for 6pm sharp. Hurling Training on Wednesday as 5:15 as usual. U10 football commences Tuesday evening at 6pm.
Under-12
Our 12 C football team suffered defeat in their north semi final against Newport on Tuesday night. They were slow to get going, but put in one of the best performances of the year in the second half.
Membership
Membership is now due. All boys have received forms which should be returned to mentors. Non-members will not be eligible to train or play in matches. Contact 086 0855165 with any issues.
Camogie News
Our under-10 girls took part in the differed county blitz today in Portroe. Twenty-two girls took to the field and did really well in all games. With forty girls training regularly and the numbers growing every week it’s great to see the girls doing so well. If other girls wish to start up we train on a Monday and Thursday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. There is no training this bank holiday Monday.
Under-12
The under-12s travelled to Moneygall for the final blitz with a somewhat depleted squad and came away with two good wins. Playing on a bigger pitch played to our strengths as it gave our older girls the space to play into and get their strikes away. We beat Moneygall in the first game with a great goal from Nikola Zarina. In the second game we beat Kiladangan thanks to a goal from Ella O’Brien and great defending from our girls and would have won by more only for two or three good saves by Kildangan. Thanks to Moneygall for hosting the games. That’s the last of the blitzes so League will start soon. Training Thursday at 5.30pm.
Camogie Fundraiser
The winner of the Come Dine With Me €100 raffle that ensured everyone that bought a ticket was entered into the draw took place at a recent committee meeting and first out of the hat was Maeve Hassett.
The Late Michael Cahill
The club would like to express its sympathies to the Cahill family, friends and Kilruane MacDonagh’s club following the recent passing of Michael Cahill. Michael was a top class referee who’s name players loved to see beside their club’s upcoming fixture. A popular figure in GAA circles, his contribution to his beloved Kilruane MacDonagh’s was immense as a player, supporter, referee, groundskeeper, delegate and club treasurer among many other roles.
Matches in MacDonagh Park, Cloughjordan will seem different in future without his presence around the grounds performing some duty to ensure the game runs smoothly.

Under-8
Our under-8 boys played their first football blitz of the year on Saturday morning in Doctor Morris Park, Thurles. We had two teams on the day and both teams played against Killenaule, Moycarkey Borris and JK Brackens, Templemore. There was some great football played with the boys showing plenty of their skills. Great scores were had, wonderful interplay and tenacious tackling throughout. Gaelic Football training takes place every Tuesday in McDonagh Park from 6.00 till 7.00. Any boy interested in playing is welcome regardless of whether they play hurling or not. Hurling training continues as usual on Wednesday evenings from 5.30 till 6.30 and Saturday mornings from 10.00 till 11.00.

Junior-B Football
Our junior-B footballers opened their county championship on Sunday with a trip to Puckane where they faced Lorrha and Dorrha but unfortunately came out on the wrong side of a 2-11 to 1-4 scoreline. Captain Lenny Ryan scored Nenagh’s goal. We send our best wishes to James Morris, Aidan Healy and Eddie Brady who all picked up knocks in the match. Galtee Rovers St. Pecaun and Éire Óg Annacarty make up the rest of our championship group.
Junior-A Hurling
Come all without, come all within
You’ll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn
Our junior hurlers defeated Roscrea in an entertaining clash in MacDonagh Park on Saturday 1-18 to 0-17. Craig Hilmi scored the all important goal in the first half however for most the result pales into insignificance with the news that during the second half Donnacha Quinn came on as a second-half substitute making his first competitive appearance for Éire Óg since suffering a horrific knee injury in September 2015 in a county senior championship game against Portroe. It’s been a long and painful 1,301 days of rest, operations, recuperations, set backs and pain for Donnacha but he faced it all with determination and dignity and the entire club was delighted to finally see him back in action. Well done Donnacha.
We also would like to wish Shane Hennessy all the best as he commences his journey back to fitness after suffering a knee injury against Burgess last weekend.
Minor Hurling
Our minors recorded a 0-22 to 0-15 win over Ballina in the North Tipperary minor hurling league on Wednesday evening in MacDonagh Park. Our next match is away to Roscrea on Thursday evening at 19:15pm
Camogie News
Congratulations to Sarah Quigley and the Tipperary intermediate side who defeated Kilkenny 0-14 to 0-8 in the Littlewoods Ireland National League division two final on Saturday. Our under-14s were due to play Kilsheelan Kilcash in the county A Féile Peil final on Saturday afternoon in Boherlahan however no opposition showed up and in unusual scenes the referee threw in the ball with only one team on the pitch. The ball was worked up to Josh Keller who kicked it into an empty net.
Under-12 Visit to Croke Park
Our under-12 hurlers got to visit and play Go Games in Croke Park during the week and had a wonderful time playing a number of games and meeting two of Tipperary’s finest in Johnny B and Johnny Smacks. Thanks to all who organised such a wonderful outing for the players, a day they’ll never forget.
Under-6
Our under-6 boys played their first training matches of the year on Saturday morning. For some it was their first ever match. There was great excitement among all the young boys.

Game of Thrones
In the above photograph we see two of Tipperary’s finest, Johnny B and Paul Collins, however it appears that the two men are sitting in the wrong chair. A closer inspection reveals that the chair actually belongs to our own John Heffernan and Conor O’Donovan. Luckily both Conor and John are sound out and don’t mind sharing their throne with mere mortals!
Evan Doyle defeats Johnny B in a plank competition in Croke Park! Well done Evan.
Big Saturday Ahead for Éire Óg
The club sends its best wishes to our under-14 footballers as they prepare to head to Boherlahan tomorrow to face Kilsheelan-Kilcash in the county Féile football final. Having already captured the North hurling and football titles the lads will be anxious to add a county title to their list of achievements.
This game throws in at 15:30 and all support would be appreciated by these hard-working young men.
Sarah Quigley has a National League division two title to win tomorrow also as she is the woman between the sticks for Tipperary as they face Kilkenny in St. Rynagh’s GAA club, Banagher at 3pm. Also part of the team is Nenagh Handball Club’s Sinéad Meagher. We wish both players the very best.
The Tipperary minor camógs face Clare tomorrow also at 13:00 in Gort in the All-Ireland A semi-final and Nenagh Éire Óg are represented by Ella Carey and Megan Grace. Again we wish the girls the very best and hope we get to see them line out in the Blue & Gold in an All-Ireland final in a few weeks’ time.
Nenagh Éire Óg to host Come Dine With Me
Nenagh Éire Óg Camogie club will host its main fundraising event of the year at the Hibernian Inn on the 27th of April. The club is organising a Come Dine With me evening with a local ‘celebrity chef’ to serve up a delicious two course meal at the popular Hibernian Inn, a longstanding supporter of Nenagh Éire Óg Hurling and Camogie Club over the years, kicking off at 8p.m sharp on the night.
As well as a two course meal and a glass of wine, the club have organised music and entertainment with a large number of spot prizes to be given away. Tickets are very reasonable and priced at just €20 for what promises to be a great night out with a meal included. They can be purchased from the club or arranged by sending a direct message to the Éire Óg Facebook page with a special offer of three tickets for €50 and each ticket purchased will be entered into a draw for €100.
Like most club fundraisers, this event is open to the general public as well as parents, members, friends and connections of Nenagh Éire Óg Camogie Club. Details of the ‘celebrity chef’ are being kept closely guarded by the committee members and guests are encouraged to come early to find out who will be cooking up a storm at the Hibernian Inn on the 27th of this month.
Already 2019 has been very positive for the Camogie Club with a large number of underage girls joining up after a hugely successful ‘Nenagh Éire Ogres Camp’ taking place in February. With the #20×20 campaign launched earlier in the year, an all-inclusive movement to shift Ireland’s cultural perception of women’s sport by 2020 and to encourage more female participation in sport, the club was delighted to welcome back so many of the Senior girls to training who represented the club so well in 2018. All of the age groups from under eights through to minor and senior have seen a growth in numbers which bodes well for the future of Nenagh Éire Óg Camogie Club.
Come Dine With Me is an opportunity for members of the Nenagh community to come out and support their local club at this fundraising event in what promises to be a sociable evening away from the hurling fields!
