Our Junior A team survived a late comeback by Borris-Iliegh to run out 2-15 to 1-11 winners and keep their unbeaten start to the League intact. The game was slow to start, but was a good and entertaining encounter despite the poor conditions.
Willie Bolger opened the scoring for Nenagh in the 8th minute, a score followed swiftly by points from Darragh Walsh and Bob O’Brien. Two quick points from Borris’ closed the gap to the minimum, before points from David Cleary and Bob O’Brien gave Nenagh a two point advantage. The Blue’s lead was stretched to 6 points following three points from Darragh Walsh, 2 frees and a long range point from midfield. Borris-Iliegh responded with two pointed frees either side of points from Darragh Walsh and Christopher Ryan, leaving Éire Óg with a half time lead of 10-0 to 0-04.
Johnny Cahalan was introduced in place of Aidan Healy for Nenagh at half-time and made an instant impact, with a point in the 31st minute. This was followed immediately by the opening goal of the game, as Christopher Ryan found the back of the net following an excellent solo run from the half forward line. Borrisloeigh responded with a free, however a Willie Bolger goal in the 35th minute, followed by two quick frees from Darragh Walsh would leave the score at 2-11 to 0-05 after 40 minutes, and left Borris-Iliegh with a 14 point deficit to close. Borris-Iliegh would score 4 of the next 6 points, with David Cleary and David Hackett, a 38th minute substitute for Adam Carey, scoring the Blue’s points. A 55th minute goal for Borris’ set up an exciting finish, however they had simply left themselves too much to do. Nenagh’s defence held firm as Borris’ went looking for more goals, managing only two more points, leaving the final score at 2-15 to 1-11.

Under-21A: The 2016 playing year kicked off in the best possible fashion when our u21 hurlers won a thrilling North u21 final. Coming from 9 points down during the 2nd half, they then held on to win an absorbing contest. Well done to all players, team management and backroom staff and hard luck to a very magnanimous Kildangan side who lost nothing in defeat. We now play Thurles Sarsfields in the county semifinal. The Éire Óg senior hurlers drew with Portroe in the senior hurling championship while the junior B Camogie team made history at The Ragg in a dramatic day for the Blues.
HISTORIC CAMOGIE WIN
The Nenagh Éire Óg senior Camogie team made history on Sunday afternoon when winning a first-ever County Junior B League title – in the decider Éire Óg beat Portroe 8-5 to 1-4 at The Ragg.
Following a Holly O’Brien point goals from Michelle Collins, Danielle Harrington and Aileen Duggan helped Éire Óg into a 3-1 to 0-3 lead by the 17th minute. A Louise Hickey strike and three further Danielle Harrington goals saw Éire Óg lead 7-1 to 0-4 at the interval.
A fifth Danielle Harrington goal and points from Ciara McGrath (two) and Rachel Maher forced Éire Óg into a 8-5 to 0-4 lead before Portroe struck for a late consolation goal.
Well done to everyone involved and our thanks go to the management team of Denise Morris, Paul Henry and Shane Connolly who have put a lot of work into this group of players.

Hibernian Inn North Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
Portroe 0-13 Nenagh Éire Óg 1-10
A draw with Portroe ensured that Éire Óg won group three of the Hibernian Inn-sponsored North Tipperary senior hurling championship at a soaking wet Dolla on Sunday afternoon.
Kevin O’Halloran set the tone for Portroe in the fifth minute when the youngster fired over a smashing effort to give his side the lead. Michael Heffernan responded for Éire Óg before John Sheedy and Donnacha Quinn (free) traded efforts to leave the sides locked at 0-2 apiece by the seventh minute.
In the ninth Kevin O’Halloran swung over a terrific sideline ball to re-claim the lead for Portroe, but Michael Heffernan responded for Éire Óg almost immediately before a Killian Gleeson point presented the Blues with the lead for the first time in the 12th – 0-4 to 0-3.
Six minutes later Kevin O’Halloran levelled it up with another excellent effort before John Sheedy (’65) gave Portroe the lead in the 19th minute. Three minutes later a Donnacha Quinn free tied it up as the tit-for-tat nature of this encounter persisted while a superb Jimmy Creamer point re-claimed the lead for a highly-motivated Portroe side in the 23rd minute – 0-6 to 0-5.
Éire Óg closed out the half in robust fashion however with a long-range Barry Heffernan free and a Donnacha Quinn effort from a placed ball handing Liam Heffernan’s men a narrow 0-7 to 0-6 interval lead.
Three minutes into the second half Portroe were level thanks to a John Sheedy free. Seconds later Justin Conroy set up Kevin O’Halloran to lash over a brilliant long-range effort (0-8 to 0-7) and it was all looking a little ominous for Éire Óg.
The Blues stuck to their task however and were unlucky not to plunder a goal in the 35th minute when Darren Gleeson denied Hugh Maloney with a fine save. Portroe were not as fortunate however in the 37th minute when Éire Óg conjured a fine goal to force themselves into a 1-7 to 0-8 lead – Pearse Morris won the ball in the middle of the field and worked it to Killian Gleeson who in turn found Tommy Heffernan who played a clever one-two with Michael Heffernan before beating Darren Gleeson with a neat left-hand shot.
Portroe responded to that set-back magnificently however. A John Sheedy ’65 and a David Gleeson point levelled matters with twenty minutes to play before John Sheedy (free) fired his side back into the lead in the 44th minute.
Michael Heffernan notched Éire Óg’s first point of the second half in the 46th minute to draw the sides level (1-8 to 0-11). Three minutes later Michael Heffernan was fouled for a free which Kevin Tucker converted and Éire Óg led 1-9 to 0-11 with time fast running out. A Kevin Tucker free in the 55th minute then extended Éire Óg’s lead to two.
Prior to this effort Portroe, who were hurling much the better, had fired three consecutive wides and were denied a goal in the 57th minute when Michael McNamara made a fine reaction save from Kevin O’Halloran. It is also worth noting that Noel Maloney did especially well to block a Dinny Hogan effort seconds later.
With a minute to play Darren Gleeson worked a free short to the completely unmarked Jimmy Creamer who landed a fine point from the middle of the field to reduce the margin to manageable proportions – 0-12 to 1-10.
Then, in second half injury time, Éire Óg’s Hugh Maloney was adjudged to have over-carried, perhaps harshly, and the ever-reliable John Sheedy fired over the resultant long-range free to earn Portroe a share of the points.

On Sunday evening, following Toomevara’s play-off win over Lorrha at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh Éire Óg were drawn against the Greyhounds in the quarter-finals.
Hibernian Inn North Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final draw: Nenagh Éire Óg v Toomevara, Templederry Kenyons v Kildangan, Roscrea v Borris-Ileigh, Silvermines v Portroe. All four matches are scheduled to take place on the week-ending Sunday, May 26th.

Senior Hurling Championship
Nenagh Éire Óg 5-12 Moneygall 0-9
Éire Óg moved to the top of group three in the Hibernian Inn north Tipperary senior hurling championship thanks to an eighteen-point win over Moneygall at MacDonagh Park, Cloughjordan on Sunday evening.
Moneygall initially took the lead before Éire Óg responded with a Killian Gleeson goal following good work from Donnacha Quinn.
Moneygall led 0-5 to 1-1 when Éire Óg plundered a second goal in the 19th minute – this time Kevin Tucker kicked home following Tommy Heffernan’s well-flighted sideline ball.
Three consecutive Tommy Heffernan points helped Éire Óg into a 2-4 to 0-5 advantage.
A third Éire Óg goal, thanks to the efforts of Killian Gleeson, and two Kevin Tucker frees saw the Blues retire at the interval nursing a 3-6 to 0-5 lead.
Points from Donnacha Quinn, Kevin Tucker (free) and Paddy Murphy left eleven points between them (3-9 to 0-8) before Tommy Murphy smacked home Éire Óg’s fourth goal in the 54th minute.
Two minutes later James Mackey added the fifth before points from Paddy Murphy (two) and Andrew Coffey closed out the game.
Éire Óg face Kilruane MacDonagh’s in third round – fixture details to be confirmed.

Overall the weekend proved very encouraging for Éire Óg. Besides the seniors beating Moneygall on Sunday evening the junior B Camogie team recorded another great win in the league beating Ballingarry 5-8 to 1-1.
The under-14 Camogie team also won the county Féile na nGael final at the Ragg on Saturday beating Newport 2-6 to 0-2 in the decider while we also offer our congratulations to Nenagh Handball Club’s Sinéad Meagher who was a member of the Munster team which won the inter-provincial title in Cavan on Saturday – Sinéad won both of her matches in the competition.

Toomevara 0-13
Éire Óg proved too strong for Toomevara in their junior A hurling league clash at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh on Monday evening.
Toome stole into an early 0-2 to 0-1 lead before points from Donnacha Quinn, Davy Hackett (two frees), James Mackey (two) and Pearse Morris helped the home side into a 0-7 to 0-2 lead.
Toomevara responded with two points of their own before efforts from Adam Grattan and Gary Howard helped Éire Óg into a 0-9 to 0-4 interval lead.
Following a brilliant James Mackey point in the 37th minute Éire Óg had extended their lead to six points (0-12 to 0-6) and although Toomevara tried hard to mount a late challenge the Blues always managed to keep the Greyhounds at arm’s length.
Despite playing into the wind Éire Óg managed to out-score Toomevara 0-8 to 0-7 during the closing exchanges of this encounter. Indeed, James Mackey brought proceedings to a close in the 62nd minute when scoring his sixth point from play.

Junior B Hurling League
Nenagh Éire Óg 1-11 Kildangan 3-5
A Kildangan goal in the fifth minute of injury time denied Éire Óg a deserved win in the junior B hurling league at Puckane this afternoon.
Éire Óg shipped two goals in the opening half, but a Gary Howard point and three Darragh Walsh frees left six between them at the break – 0-4 to 2-4.
Éire Óg, who were now playing with the wind, started the second half in enterprising mood with points from Aidan Healy, Philip Hickey, Gary Howard and an absolute cracker from Darragh Walsh closing the gap to two points (0-8 to 2-4).
Éire Óg continued to dominate and Mark Higginbottom plundered a goal to present Nenagh with the lead in the 37th minute – 1-8 to 2-4.
A Philip Hickey point and a Darragh Walsh free extended the Éire Óg lead to three points (1-10 to 2-4) before Kildangan managed their first score of the second half in the 57th minute.
On the hour mark Philip Hickey struck for Éire Óg’s eleventh point, but in the fifth minute of injury time Kildangan batted in an equalising goal following a long-range free.
Éire Óg’s remaining junior B hurling league group games are against Silvermines, Borrisokane and Newport. Well done lads.
