Congratulations to Willie Bolger and Sarsfields Hurling Club in Western Australia who beat Western Swans, 1-20 to 1-10, in the county final on Saturday last. Willie is after building up a fine collection of championship medals on foreign fields in recent years. Keep up the great work Willie.
Another true blue winning championships abroad is Danielle Harrington who won the British junior camogie championship on Saturday with Brother Pearse Camogie Club over Green Isle in McGovern Park, Ruislip 6-9 to 2-4. Danielle brought her amazing form across the water with her banging home five goals in the final.
We also congratulate Barry Coffey who scored the all important goal for the Republic of Ireland in the European under-19 championships against the Czech Republic and secured Ireland’s place in the semi-final against Portugal.

Street Leagues

The Nenagh Éire Óg under-8 street leagues finished up Saturday morning in MacDonagh Park. The leagues ran over the past three weeks and Saturday was the seventh day of them. 33 children represented their areas in town and ten others had also taken part over the past number of weeks but were away on holidays today all over the world in far away places from China, France, Portugal, Poland and to the USA. They left instructions to their teammates before they left that they wanted to win the trophies and to try their best.

We will run a repeat street league finals day in September when they are all back home.
The four teams were from the Borrisokane Road, Thurles & Limerick Roads, Gortlandroe and Benedine.
The four teams lined up for a mini-parade pre-match and stood for Amhrán na bhFiann with their team mates.

All teams played Gaelic football semi-finals first with Gortlandroe and Borrrisokane Road reaching the first and second place final and Limerick/Thurles and Bendine playing the third and fourth place final. Gortlandroe came out on top with a hard earned win by one score. In the hurling Borrisokane Road got revenge on Gortlandroe to reach the first and second place finals against a strong Benedine team. Limerick/Thurles Road and Gortlandroe played out the third and fourth place final. Borrisokane won out the final by the narrowest of margins.

After the games Tipperary and Éire Óg star Conor McCarthy presented each player with a medal and presented the two winning captains with the trophies. Our thanks to Conor and we wish him and the rest of the under-20 team all the best of luck next Tuesday evening against Cork in the Munster Final.
Juvenile Chairman Liam Heffernan commended the children on their great efforts and encouraged them to stay practising and to take part in the club summer camp next week and the Cúl Camp in late August.
A special thanks to our two young whistlers from the under-16 hurling panel for helping out. Thanks also to Catherine McTiernan for all the hard work behind the scenes helping organise the street league.
Under-10

We welcomed the under-10 boys of Michael Cusack’s Hurling Club from South County Galway, a combination of Beagh GAA and Kilbacenty clubs. A wonderful bunch of lads and excellent young hurlers. We look forward to meeting them again. Thanks to our under-10 parents for the wonderful spread of healthy treats for all after the matches.
Under-12 C

Our under-12 group C warriors bowed out of the championship during the week when they lost out to an excellent Newport side in their North Tipperary quarter-final. They have made huge strides in their development this year and should be proud of their efforts playing up a grade in Group C for the first time. Well done to them on their mighty efforts last night and keep up the good work at training!

Indeed both sets of players were an absolute credit to their respective clubs afterwards with the sportsmanship on display as they went out of their way to shake hands with each other. Well done to both panels. We wish Filip McIntyre a speedy recovery from a knock he picked up in the match.

The results did not go our way over the weekend with defeats to Knockmore, Domhnach Mór Naoimh Pádraig, Ballina Stephenites and Eirn’s Isle but despite that everyone had a wonderful time and all the players represented the club and county impeccably and were an absolute credit.

The Blues 10km is a fantastic success, excitement is at bursting point as the under-14s get ready for Féile Peil while we announce the launch of our brand new mobile app. All this and more in this week’s bumper edition of the news on the Blues.

Féile players with members of the senior hurling panel on Sunday morning
All in the club are saddened by the news of the recent passing of John Lawlor.

John served as chairman, secretary and treasurer of Nenagh Éire Óg throughout the 1960s and 1970s. He played hurling and Gaelic football for the club as well as working as a mentor for numerous Gaelic football and hurling teams from juvenile right up to senior. He was the club’s representative to both the North and County Board and was Bord na nÓg secretary between 1964 and 1967.
Later in life he moved to Kilruane MacDonagh’s where he continued his lifelong service to the GAA acting as an administrator and selector with various teams.
His son David played in goals for Nenagh Éire Óg in recent years.
To his wife Mary, sons Damian, Sean and David and daughter Collette we offer our sincerest sympathies.

Jim Kennedy gets his blood pressure checked in MacDonagh Park on Sunday
Sunday morning saw MacDonagh Park become a hive of activity as the Ivers and Cullinan sponsored Blues 5km and 10km runs took place while the HSE organised over thirty stands in the complex.
The first three runners home were Tom Lupton (Portlaoise), David Sheehan (Nenagh) and Alan Kelly (Nenagh). For a full list of results and times from Premier Timing please click here.
Meanwhile in the complex the HSE had over thirty stands offering advice, support, free health checks and even pilates to visitors to the club. This was a wonderfully organised event and everyone who attended were wholesome in their praise of the organisers. At the end we were treated to a wonderful concert from Chimers Choir who performed a number of songs to the appreciative audience.
The club wish to thank the organising committee, the volunteers, stewards and in particular Shane Connolly for all his efforts in ensuring today’s event was a wonderful success.

The Chimers Choir provided some fantastic songs to end the event on Sunday afternoon

Michael McNamara
Our senior hurlers defeated Portroe in the final game of the round robin stage of the Tipperary Water county league on Sunday morning, 4-16 to 2-9, with Conor Hennessy, Cian O’Farrell, Philip Hickey and Seán Phelan bagging the goals. This means the lads have now qualified for the semi-finals as they bid to retain their title. We send Michael McNamara the very best as he recovers from an injury picked up in this game.

Mark Tuite who deputised in goals for the injured Dáire Gleeson pucks out the ball
Our junior-A hurlers continued their good run in this year’s championship defeating Roscrea in the second round of the North Tipperary championship on Friday evening last 1-14 to 1-13. With thirteen minutes to play the Blues were five-points down but showed great composure and determination to reel in an excellent Roscrea side. Aided by a 51st minute Cian O’Farrell goal, Eddie Tucker’s side never panicked and it was substitute Eoghan Slattery who popped over the winning point with just three minutes remaining.

Barry Heffernan
We wish Barry Heffernan, Jake Morris and the Tipperary senior hurlers the very best of luck next Sunday as they take on Limerick in the Munster senior hurling final in Páirc na nGael. Limerick are chasing their twentieth title while Tipperary are going for their 43rd.

Our under-8 boys travelled to Cloughjordan on Saturday morning to play against Kilruane MacDonagh’s and Lorrha Dorrha. As always it was really well organised and the boys had a great time. Lots of our boys had played in a schools blitz in Éire Óg on Friday representing St Mary’s BNS and Gaelscoil Aonach Urmhumhan. Over 150 boys took part in the school blitz.
For some of the primary school children it was their first time playing hurling and we would love to welcome new players to the club to try out hurling or Gaelic football. We are starting a street league in Gaelic football this Tuesday from 6pm until 7pm and in hurling on Wednesday from 5.30pm until 6.30pm. It will run for a few weeks at the same time. If any new players would like to play they need a gumshield for football, for hurling they can borrow a hurley and helmet from the club. Anyone interested in coming along can turn up on the night or contact 0874086439.

We look forward to seeing a huge crowd in MacDonagh Park on Sunday from both the club and wider community.
All in the club are saddened by the news of the passing of John Lawlor.

His funeral arrangements are as follows: Reposing at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Nenagh this Wednesday from 4 o’c with removal at 7 o’c to arrive to St. Michael and John’s Church, Cloughjordan at 8 o’c. Requiem Mass on Thursday at 11 o’c followed by burial in Grawn Graveyard.
Nenagh Éire Óg will be providing a guard of honour from Ryan’s Funeral Home at 7pm tomorrow evening and all members are invited to participate.
To his wife Mary, sons Damian, Sean and David and daughter Collette we offer our sincerest sympathies.
