Senior Hurling
Nenagh Éire Óg 1-14 Kilruane MacDonaghs 1-13
Nenagh overcame Kilruane by the narrowest of margins on Sunday morning in the county league in wet and blustery conditions by the narrowest of margins and they had to do so after losing Dáire Quinn early on through injury after James Cleary and Kieran Cahill had given MacDonaghs a two-point advantage. Indeed Cahill had a fine afternoon for Kilruane, finishing with a personal tally of 0-6.
At half-time Kilruane led 0-9 to 0-6 but the home side were quick off the mark scoring 1-2 inside the opening four minutes of the second period. The goal was scored by Adam Healy after good work from Killian Gleeson. Nenagh controlled the second half but had a nervy finish as James Cleary scored a late goal to level the sides but Killian Gleeson quickly restored Nenagh’s lead with what proved to be the match winning point.
The lads now play Portroe on Sunday in Portroe at 11:30am.
Minor Football
Our minor footballers were due to play Borrisokane in the second round of the North championship this weekend but unfortunately this game was postponed. At the time of going to press, we have no details of a refixture.
Junior Football
Training for junior football continues this Saturday in Nenagh College at 5pm on the astro turf. New players are always more than welcome.
Bloody Sunday Lecture
Nenagh man John Flannery will deliver a lecture entitled Bloody Sunday, A Bitter Legacy or A Legacy of Bitterness in the Abbey Court Hotel tomorrow, Monday, at 8pm. This promises to be a fascinating insight into the events surrounding that awful day and its legacy. All are welcome.
Tipperary
Barry in action against Galway
Well done to Grace O’Brien and her Tipperary senior team who are through to the National League Final after beating Galway at the weekend. Full time score Tipperary 1-8 Galway 0-10.
Hard luck to Hazel McAuliffe and her Tipperary intermediate team mates who lost out to Antrim at the weekend in division two of the league, Antrim 5-13 Tipperary 1-06.
Also well done to Michelle Barry and her Tipperary minor team mates on their win against Wexford at the weekend.
Hard luck to Barry Heffernan, Jake Morris and the Tipperary seniors who were beaten by Galway in the final round of the Allianz league. This result ends Tipperary’s interest in the league and the lads will now begin to focus on the championship.
Condolences

Éire Ógres
A superb effort from all the girls for the second morning of Camogie Éire Ógres! The girls showed great enthusiasm as they made their way around the hall, through each of the activities. Special thanks to all who helped this week. It makes such a difference for the girls when there is so much support and encouragement. With the 2020 push for girls in sport it has never being more important for the girls to get involved. They have a 70% better chance of playing sport into adulthood if there is parental support and involvement in their activities. No coaching experience needed, just time and patience is all that’s required. Thanks to our hardworking committee that supplied lots of refreshments and food for everyone.

It’s that time of the year again. The envy of the civilised world as we know it. It’s the Nenagh Éire Óg Juvenile Club table quiz. Mark it in your diary, Dapp Inn Friday 13th March 9pm. So come along or get a team together for the perfect evening out to start off the extra long Patricks weekend…with a bit of brainteasing thrown in too. All welcome especially to those parents whose youngsters may be new to the club. A perfect opportunity to meet your fellow members in a social environment. €20 for a table of four.

The focus was on hand-eye coordination, fundamental movement and agility while the boys thought they’re only having fun. Continues next Saturday from 10am and new boys are always welcome. No hurleys or helmets required, the focus will be on hand-eye coordination, fundamental movement and agility while the boys think they’re only having fun! Free tea/coffee/scones for parents and siblings so don’t rush the breakfast. Cost is €10 for the month and all will be awarded with a training T-shirt on the final morning. Well done to the seniors who got off to a winning start in their first outing of the season. In the first round of the Senior Camogie League, Nenagh beat Annacarty by one point on a scoreline of 4-5 to 1-13 at MacDonagh Park. The Nenagh goals were scored by Caroline Browne, Grace O’Brien, Emer Ryan and Maeve Coffey.

Our minor-B footballers opened their championship campaign with a 3-8 to 0-5 win over Templederry/Ballinahinch in Templederry on Sunday morning last. The game was supposed to take place in MacDonagh Park but due to the weather it was switched to Templederry.

The Tipperary Westmeath game at the weekend was unfortunately moved from MacDonagh Park to Semple Stadium in Thurles due to the recent rains but that didn’t dampen the spirits of both Jake Morris and Barry Heffernan who gave commanding displays against Westmeath with Jake bagging a personal tally of 1-3. Well done to all involved.

The Tipperary GAA Bloody Sunday Commemoration Committee
The Tipperary GAA Bloody Sunday Commemoration Committee have announced an exciting lecture which takes place on March 9th, at 8pm in the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh as historian John Flannery will host a talk entitled “Bloody Sunday, A Bitter Legacy or a Legacy of Bitterness?” This event, in conjunction with the Ormond Historical Society and Nenagh 800, promises to be an entertaining, educational and insightful talk which will discuss the events surrounding that awful day and the long-lasting effects which can be felt to the present day.

1997 Opening of the New Stand

In 1997 the club celebrated the opening of our new stand in MacDonagh Park by hosting the Church & General Assurance National Hurling League encounter between Tipperary and Offaly. President elect at the time, Joe McDonagh, performed the official opening while the stand was blessed by Fr. Brendan Kyne. Offaly prevailed on the day winning 2-14 to 1-15 while Nenagh’s only representative on the Tipperary team was Michael Cleary who was forced off during the first half after sustaining a serious injury.

Senior Hurling
In county league we have been drawn in Division 1 Group 2 alongside Kilruane MacDonagh’s, Upperchurch Drombane, Moycarkey Borris, Kiladangan, Lorrha and Dorrha, Thurles Sarsfields and Portroe.
The first round of the county hurling league is expected to take place on the weekend of March 8th with the second round on the weekend of March 15th.
Junior-A Hurling
In the North Tipperary league we will play Kilruane MacDonagh’s, Toomevara and Roscrea.
Junior-B Hurling
In the North Tipperary hurling league we will play Silvermines, Lorrha and Dorrha, Portroe, Burgess and Shannon Rovers.
Junior-B Football
The draws have taken place for the junior-B county football league and championship. In the county league we are in Division 3 Group 1 alongside Loughmore Castleiney, Mullinahone, Emly and Solohead.
In the county junior-B championship we are in group 1 alongside Clonmel Óg, Rosegreen and Éire Óg Annacarty.
Minor-B Football
Our minor footballers were supposed to play Borrisokane on Sunday in the North Tipperary championship but unfortunately, due to the inclement weather, the game was postponed. The lads are now due to play Templederry, on Sunday morning at 11:45am in MacDonagh Park.

The Tipperary senior hurlers’ game against Galway this weekend was cancelled due to the inclement weather. Next Sunday will be a special day for the club as Tipperary will play Westmeath in the Allianz League in MacDonagh Park. Well done to Shane Gleeson and Tom Boland who won the under-12 Tipperary Handball Development tournament in Cashel on Saturday beating Carrick-on-Suir Handball Club in the final on a scoreline of 17 :14.

Fr. Alec Reid Tournament
Referee Colum Cunning with a Nenagh Éire Óg sliothar prior to throw in
Tipperary drew with Antrim in Belfast on Saturday in the Fr. Alec Reid tournament held at Davitts GAA Club on the Falls Road, Belfast to celebrate the opening of their fantastic new pitch. The Davitts club was founded in 1912 but never had their own playing field until this impressive new facility was built. Fr. Alec played hurling and Gaelic football with Nenagh and won an All-Ireland hurling minor title in 1949 with Tipperary before joining the Redemptorist order. Fr. Alec was an instrumental in bringing about peace to Northern Ireland.
The referee, Colum Canning, symbolically throw in the Nenagh Éire Óg sliothar before giving it to the Davitts club who will now put it on permanent display in their clubhouse.

2020 Challenge
The Get Fit 2020 Challenge has been a great success to date. Week four of ten continues with circuits on Tuesdays from 6pm-7pm with Shane Connolly overseeing the workout and running on the pitch on Thursdays from 6.30pm-7.30pm to get us on our way to a 5km run in March. The challenge is still open to anyone from Nenagh Éire Óg to join up, parents, players (under-12s upwards) mentors and newcomers will be most welcome.
Under-12
Our training times are Tuesday 6pm-7pm at Nenagh College and Thursday 6.30pm-7.30pm at Éire Óg pitch. New or returning girls are always welcome to join us – never too late to pick up a camogie stick!
Éire Ogres
The Éire Ogres returns on the 29th of February for all girls born in 2013 or 2014. It will take place for four Saturdays from the 29th at the club and will cost €10 per child with a free t-shirt for participants on the final Saturday morning. The girls session will run from 10.45-11.45 and promises to be a fun filled few weeks to introduce girls into Éire Óg Camogie club.
Condolences
Nenagh Éire Óg Camogie Club would like to express our deepest and most sincere condolences to the Quinn family on the untimely passing of Enda Quinn. Enda was the brother of Darragh Quinn who is currently a mentor with the under-8s in the club. Our thoughts are with Darragh and the extended Quinn family at this time.
Table Quiz
The table quiz scheduled for 14th of February has been postponed for now.

Éire Ógres
The ever-popular Éire Ógres GAA camp for beginners returns for four Saturdays beginning February 29th. Open to boys born 2014/2015, it is the perfect way to introduce your child to sport in a happy, safe environment. No hurleys or helmets required, the focus will be on hand-eye coordination, fundamental movement and agility while the boys think they’re only having fun! Free tea/coffee/scones for parents and siblings so don’t rush the breakfast. Cost is €10 for the month and all will be awarded with a training T-shirt on the final morning. Membership
Membership is now due. We will hold a registration morning on February 15th in the complex from 10am-11 am. Forms are also with mentors and may be returned to them at training. It remains €30 for the year with family options available.
Under-8
Training continued on Saturday morning at Nenagh College with nearly thirty again in attendance despite the cold weather. Great effort from the boys. Training continues next Saturday morning at 11am. New players are always welcome.
Under-10
Training continues every Saturday at 10am in Nenagh College. Any boys born in 2010 or 2011 who would like to join are welcome.
Under-12
North Tipperary football throws in next weekend with fixture details due soon. Full attendance required at training. Please check club social media for up to date fixture details.
Under-14
Great efforts at training from the boys. The bus is booked and we will travel to Galway on Sunday, 16th February to take in the Tipperary Vs Galway match and play a challenge against Castlegar on the way. Final details from mentors during the week.
Under-16
Well done to our boys who represented North Tipp on Roger Ryan and Garda Cup teams over the weekend. Training continues at the usual times.
When Kevin met Leo
It is great to see young people politically engaged and take an interest in affairs that affect society as a whole. Recently Leo Varadkar was canvassing in Nenagh when he came across juvenile hurler, Kevin Liston, who questioned him about climate change. Check out the video below and well done Kevin.

Hibernian Inn North Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
In the opening round of the Hibernian Inn North Tipperary senior hurling championship we have been drawn to play Kiladangan ‘B”. This game is set to take place on the weekend of March 29, the quarter finals are fixed for the following weekend while the semi finals are set for the weekend of April 12.

Weekly Walks
Our club weekly walks take place every Tuesday and Thursday evening from MacDonagh Park at 7pm. All are welcome regardless of fitness levels or if you’re from the parish or not.
Our walking group enjoy teas, coffees and cakes all prepared and baked by Bartley Ryan. To enjoy his cuisine please come along to any of our walks.
Official opening of the clubhouse, 30 October 1989
Last week we uploaded a booklet that was published in 1942 to celebrate the official opening of MacDonagh Park and following some very positive feedback we have decided to upload a copy of the programme that was produced to coincide with the official opening of our clubhouse in October 1989. That day Offaly, the reigning Leinster champions, played Tipperary, the reigning All-Ireland champions, in a challenge game that was attended by a large crowd. Tipperary won 2-15 to 0-11 with a young Michael Cleary bagging a personal tally of 0-5 while GAA president, John Dowling, officially opened the complex.

Jake fires over a first-half point against Cork
Hard luck to the Tipperary hurlers who were defeated by Cork in the second round of the Allianz leagues on Saturday in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, 2-24 to 1-25. Jake had a fine game scoring two points.
Camogie News
Under-12
Under-12 training resumed this week with a great turnout. Our training times are Tuesday 6-7pm at Nenagh College and Thursday 6.30-7.30pm at the Éire Óg pitch. New or returning girls are always welcome to join us – never too late to pick up a camogie stick!
Under-10
Training continues for the girls every Saturday at 9.00 at Nenagh College. Any girls born in 2010 and 2011 that wish to come along are welcome.
Juvenile News
Membership
Juvenile membership is now due. Membership forms are with mentors. Club registration dates on Saturdays February 15th and 22nd in the complex from 10am to 11am.
Under-6
The ever popular Éire Ógres will be throwing in later than usual this year for boys born in 2014 and 2015. Beginning on Saturday 29th February and running for four weeks. More details soon.
Under-8
Training commenced on Saturday in Nenagh College. We had close on thirty playing which is great for a cold first day back. If the boys have any friends who have not played before and would be interested, then please encourage them to come along next Saturday. New members always welcome. Seamie and Denise supporting Jake in Cork
It was with great sadness that we learned of the untimely passing of one of our clubmen in Enda Quinn formerly of Tyone, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.
Enda played through the ranks before emigrating to his current home in Edinburgh, Scotland.
On behalf of everyone in the club we extend our sincerest sympathies to his beloved wife Suzanne, children Chloe and Callum, family, extended family, friends and all who knew him.
