The under-8 end of year party
Our under-8 girls enjoyed their end-of-year party to mark the close of a fantastic season. A huge thank you to everyone who gave their time and support throughout the year. We really appreciate it.
Under-10
Our under-10s train again on Wednesday night with their final blitz against Drom taking place on Saturday, followed by their end-of-season party.
Under-11

The under-11s at their blitz
We hosted a very competitive under-11/development blitz in MacDonagh Park on Saturday morning in glorious sunshine. We played three matches against Kiladangan, Borris-Ileigh and Newport-Ballinahinch, with the girls progressing through each of the tough games and going from strength to strength.
Thank you to the committee and parents for their continued support, which allowed us to host another successful blitz. A special thanks also to Tara McTiernan and Lily Morris who fulfilled referee duties on the day.
We return to training tomorrow, Monday, for the under-12s and under-11s, with a shorter session from 7.00 to 7.45pm due to fading light. Plans are also being put in place for our under-11s to travel to Dolla on Wednesday to play Silvermines.
Under-13
Our under-13s played Kiladangan in glorious sunshine on Friday evening in Nenagh. With bragging rights very much on the line, Éire Óg emerged victorious by a single point!

The under-14s at the Nuala Nealon Memorial Tournament in Burgess
Our under-14s travelled to Kilcoleman on Sunday morning to take part in the Nuala Nealon Memorial Tournament. The Éire Óg girls played Silvermines, Burgess-Duharra and Newport-Ballinahinch, with two wins seeing us reach the final.
The final against Silvermines was a terrific contest, with the Éire Óg girls producing a storming second-half performance to take the top prize. Captain Amy Coonan accepted the cup on behalf of the wet, tired but jubilant Éire Óg girls.
Thanks to Burgess-Duharra for the invitation and their wonderful hospitality.

Nenagh 3-5
Burgess-Duharra 2-6
Our under-16 girls reached the County Shield B1 final this week against Burgess-Duharra. This was the 16th match the girls had played together this year across challenges, league and championship.
In the championship, the girls beat Burgess-Duharra in the first round before losing to Slieve Féilim and Templemore in the next rounds. They finished third in their group and progressed to the shield competition. In the quarter-final, the girls overcame Moyle Rovers in Nenagh before defeating Moyne-Templetuohy in Templetuohy in the semi-final.
Burgess-Duharra came through the same group as us in fourth place but had a bye into the semi-final, where they defeated Cahir. The final was fixed for MacDonagh Park in Nenagh on Wednesday evening. The weather was ideal for hurling and the pitch was in splendid condition as always, with the grass freshly cut and the lines freshly marked.
Before the match, both teams observed a minute’s silence for Marie Hogan from the Burgess club. Marie taught Irish dancing in the Gaelscoil where a number of the Nenagh girls had been under her tutelage. The national anthem was then played before the ball was thrown in, with a huge crowd gathered for the game.
The game started in frantic fashion, with friendships put aside for the hour. Nenagh had the better of proceedings during the first half, with Lucyanne Cleary, Emily Harmse and Aisling Ryan getting on the scoreboard.
The work rate from our forwards was immense, with the inside line of Abigail Murtagh, Laura Gleeson and Eva Bailey breaking through on goal numerous times, only to be denied by some excellent defending. On another day, the ball might have gone inside the post, which added hugely to the excitement. At half-time, Nenagh led by five points and were playing some excellent hurling.
Burgess, as you would expect, came out battling in the second half. The girls weathered the storm and got another goal to widen the gap. Burgess, to their credit, redoubled their efforts and pressed hard, particularly in the final quarter.
They got a late goal from a 21-metre free which was passed short across the line to an incoming player who finished to close the gap to a goal. Burgess managed to reduce the deficit to just one point by the final whistle, but each of the Nenagh girls battled their hearts out to win ball after ball during the final few minutes.
Referee Jim Lees blew the final whistle to huge excitement around the field. There was tremendous support from all parts of the club. Captain Aimee Brett accepted the shield and delivered her speech.
Thanks to the committee for preparing the field so well and putting on a show worthy of a county final. Food was provided for the girls in the complex, followed by a tour of the town in the cars.
On the day, Ava Corbett once again proved her quality in goal, playing through the pain barrier after suffering a bad thumb injury in the semi-final the previous Friday.
The full-back line of Keevah Morris, Naoise Kelly and Niamh O’Connor has been our most consistent line on the field all year and once again they won their battles. The half-back line of Aoibh Cahill, Sailí O’Connor and Aimee Brett never stopped working throughout the game.
Jenny Talbot and Meave Quinn have formed an outstanding midfield partnership and must be two of the hardest-working players in the county. As mentioned earlier, our six forwards were outstanding in their attitude and effort throughout the year.
Our substitutes have added so much in every game this year, whether starting or coming on. Ciara Nolan scored many vital points in the last few games. Lauren Cleary and Sarah Spillane brought huge work rate and effort to the team throughout the year and played a massive part in the success.
Grace Peters and Sarah Slattery started every match throughout the year until injury struck both within the last month and their absence was really felt.
Our thanks to Burgess-Duharra for a fine sporting contest as always. We also thank our coaches, Con Morris, James Morris, Nessa Kelly, Alanna Morris and Niall Cahill, for their time and effort throughout the year.
Team on the day: Ava Corbett, Keevah Morris, Naoise Kelly, Niamh O’Connor, Aoibh Cahill, Sailí O’Connor, Aimee Brett, Meave Quinn, Jenny Talbot, Emily Harmse (1-1), Lucyanne Cleary (1-2), Aisling Ryan (1-2), Eva Bailey, Laura Gleeson and Abigail Murtagh.
Subs: Lauren Cleary, Sarah Spillane, Ciara Nolan, Sarah Slattery and Grace Peters.

Congratulations to Mark and Mairead
The whole club extends its warmest congratulations to club stalwart Mark Long and his long-suffering partner Mairead on the birth of their first child, Fiadh Grace, who entered the world at 11:11pm on Saturday night last.
“The first of many” Mark declared when he phoned me with the good news at 11:12pm while faithfully promising Mairead that he “will take care of all night-time feeds” and that she “would never have to change a nappy” in her life. Mark already has Fiadh enrolled in under-6 camogie in 2032 and has put forward a request to manage that team to the club. He has retired from “all adult club hurling duties with immediate effect” to focus on being “the greatest dad of all time” and was yesterday spotted planning his father and daughter walking routes on the club walkway. He promised not to be one of those helicopter parents who live their dreams through their children and fully expects her to make her senior inter-county camogie debut before her 18th birthday.
With Mark now officially retired from adult hurling duties, the club wishes to thank him for his service and hopes he enjoys his new role as full-time father, part-time underage camogie coach and chief nappy-changing officer.
We wish Mark, Mairead and baby Fiadh Grace every happiness and good health for the future.
