New Field

On Sunday morning we hosted our first hurling matches on our new field. Our senior hurlers, in their first ever match on the new pitch, played Murroe Boher in the John Tucker Cup while our Junior A team played Shannon Rovers.. Rory Flannery played an instrumental role in securing the grounds for the new field and in a lovely tribute, Rory’s grandsons, Gearoid and Rory, togged out for Éire Óg. Craig Hilmi had the honour of scoring the first point in a senior game on the new field.
Thanks to all the teams for taking part and helping make it a great day for the club.
Commiserations
Hard luck to Nenagh CBS, who narrowly lost out to St Kieran’s in the Schools All-Ireland Semi-Final. The boys hurled out of their skin and were unfortunate not to get over the line.

Fr. Alec Reid

The legacy of Fr Alec Reid, a former Nenagh CBS Croke Cup–winning captain and Tipperary minor All-Ireland champion, continues to inspire young hurlers. The Fr Alec Reid Cup at the GAA National Development Centre in Abbotstown celebrates that legacy by bringing schools from different provinces together to enjoy and develop the game. This year, Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar took the honours, in a tournament that reflects the spirit of friendship, participation and the proud hurling tradition connected to Nenagh Éire Óg.

Nenagh Run Club

It has been fantastic in recent weeks to see Nenagh Run Club, a new social running group for people who want to get into running or improve their fitness, making great use of the new pathway in MacDonagh Park.
The group meets every Wednesday at 7pm and Sunday at 10am on the astro turf, and everyone is welcome to come along. It has been great to see people of all levels getting involved and enjoying the facilities together.
On Sunday the group also marked International Women’s Day and took some time to reflect on the kind of community they want the run club to be — welcoming, supportive and respectful for everyone.
A sincere thank you as well to Choose Respect Ireland for joining the group and sharing their message. One of the key takeaways from the morning was the reminder that sometimes it can be as simple as speaking up and saying “that’s not respectful” when something doesn’t feel right.
“Astro Shock! Fastest Goal Ever Stuns Goalkeeper in five Seconds!”

A pulsating 40-minute clash of Social ‘ground’ Hurling lit up the Astro last night as the Mick Hutchinson/Keelin Higginston duo went head-to-head with the Jamie Kennedy/Conor Hayes/Conor O’Donovan trio. The warm-ups alone had jaws dropping, with players smashing the sliotar from every conceivable angle — first-time strikes, strikes on the run, left, right, and even while backpedaling, plus the occasional hilarious miss-hit.
“Trio Stun Duo with Last-Minute Retro Hurley Heroics!”

The high-octane 20-minute game kicked off with a bang as Mick made history, rattling the net within five seconds with his trademark swerve shot from halfway, leaving Conor O’D completely bamboozled. Keelin quickly added another, and Mick struck again — a blistering 3-0 lead in just one minute had the duo looking unstoppable.
“Hat-Trick Hero Jamie Drags Trio Back From Brink!”
But the trio weren’t done. Jamie fired in their first goal following a slick pass from Conor H, and soon they were matching the blistering pace of Mick & Keelin. With incredible resilience, they clawed their way back, leaving the scoreboard tied at 10-10 with just a minute left.
“Conor O’D’s Vintage Hurley Seals Heart-Stopping Win!”
In a nail-biting finale, the trio forced a last-gasp penalty ‘65’. Up stepped Conor O’D, wielding a retro hurley from a bygone era, and calmly slotted it home — 11-10, match over! The crowd went wild as the duo’s fast start wasn’t enough to hold back the comeback kings.
“Record-Breaking Goals, Broken Hurleys & Heroic Saves!”

Conor O’Donovan’s twenty year old hurley has now gone to meet its maker
Mick and Jamie shared top scorer honors with six goals each, Keelin bagged four, Conor O’D three and Conor H two. Mick’s opening goal claimed Goal of the Game, while Keelin impressed as Top Debutant. Save of the night went to Conor O’D, whose hurley shattered under a Mick pile-driver — a crucial moment that helped seal victory. But the Player of the Match? Jamie, thanks to a phenomenal double hat-trick showing across both halves.
Social hurling showdown hits the Astro again next Wednesday at 8.15pm — expect fireworks!
