The Toomevara junior A team proved too strong for the Blues at MacDonagh Park on Friday evening and won with thirteen points to spare.

Nenagh Éire Óg 1-13 Toomevara 4-17
Playing with the wind in the opening half Toomevara raced into a 0-6 to 0-1 lead after nine minutes with Darragh Walsh (free) responding for the Blues in the third.
A second Darragh Walsh free doubled the Éire Óg tally in the tenth minute, but Toomevara added two more points and led 0-8 to 0-2 when John Cahalan notched the Blues’ first point from play in the 18th.
Seconds later Brian Darcy made a fine double save to deny the visitors a three-pointer. Toome soon added three points to their tally, however, before striking for the opening goal of the game in the 25th minute (0-3 to 1-11).
John Cahalan responded with an Éire Óg point, but Toomevara struck for a second and third goal in the 26th and 27th minutes. The Greyhounds then closed out the half with three more points from play and led 3-14 to 0-5 at the break.
Éire Óg started the second half in positive fashion with points from Seánie Geaney, David Cleary, Darragh Walsh (free) and John Cahalan (two) cutting the deficit to thirteen by the 39th minute. Following a foul on Gavin O’Connor in the 38th minute Darragh Walsh opted to go for goal from the 21-yard line, but the midfielder’s shot was saved.
Toomevara added three points to their tally (two frees) while the home side responded with points from Darragh Walsh (free) and Alan Kelly.
In the 58th minute Niall Madden’s long-range free broke to David Cleary who beat the Toome ‘keeper with a left-handed pull. A minute later John Cahalan added a point from play, but Toomevara had the final say in the matter when firing home a fourth goal in second half injury time.
Nenagh Éire Óg have been drawn in group two of the Watch Centre North Tipperary Junior A Hurling League alongside Borris-Ileigh, Roscrea, Knockshegowna & Toomevara. Group one features Burgess, Silvermines, Templederry Kenyons, Kilruane MacDonagh’s and Kildangan. The Blues have already lost to Roscrea, but have remaining group games against Borris-Ileigh and Knockshegowna to play. The competition will be played on a two-group system with the top two teams in each progressing to the semi-finals. The team are managed by Greg Browne (manager), Con Morris, Michael Ryan and Conor Ryan.
