North Tipperary Under-14A
Championship Semi-Final
Nenagh Éire Óg 2-7 Kildangan 1-4
The Nenagh Éire Óg under-14 hurlers faced a strong Kildangan team on Saturday, August 16th in the north semi-final in Puckane.
With the cross-field breeze aiding neither team, scores were hard won.
The unfortunate loss of Rory O’Donovan to injury in the first half saw Conor Sullivan come on and the boys regrouped well and worked tirelessly to run in at half-time three points up, 0-6 to 0-3, with the scores coming from Barry Coffey (3), Séan Shanahan (1) and Daniel Molamphy (2).
The battle for possession and scores continued in the second half until a foul in the square on the progressing Barry Coffey saw him bury the resulting penalty.
Kildangan nearly responded with an immediate goal themselves, but the effort was cleared by goalie Scott O’ Brien.
Kildangan did, however, find the net soon after to leave the sides with just two points between them at 1-6 to 1-4.
An Evan Murphy ’65 relieved some of the pressure, but it was end-to-end hurling until in the last seconds of injury time Barry Coffey got on the end of a Conor Sullivan pass to put the game out of Kildangan’s reach.
The boys will now play the north final against Toome with the date provisionally set for next Saturday. Please check the club website and Facebook page for all fixture updates.
