Senior hurlers drawn to face favourites Thurles Sarsfields in an up-coming Clean Ireland Recycling County Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final following a six-point win over Kilruane MacDonagh’s while our heroic junior A hurling team have booked their place in the county final against Skeheenarinky.
SENIOR
Senior: The draw for the Clean Ireland Recycling County Senior Hurling Championship quarter-finals was made on Sunday evening – Nenagh Éire Óg were drawn to face Thurles Sarsfields. That game will take place on Sunday, October 19th at 4pm in Semple Stadium, Thurles. The quarter-final clash between Burgess and the Templederry Kenyons will precede that clash. Thurles Sarsfields were crowned champions in 2009, 2010 and 2012 and also beat Drom & Inch 3-17 to 1-20 on Sunday afternoon. Thurles Sarsfields are a superb team and the lads would appreciate your support for this massive test.
On Sunday at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh the Blues beat Kilruane MacDonagh’s 2-14 to 2-8 in their respective last sixteen clash. For a full report on this game please see the club website.
Junior A: The Blues will take on south Tipperary’s Skeheenarinky in the Clean Ireland Recycling County Junior A Hurling Championship final following a 2-12 to 1-12 win over St Patrick’s at Holycross on Saturday afternoon – Éire Óg recovered a three-point interval deficit to register an encouraging win while in their corresponding semi-final Skeheenarinky required an injury time goal to see off Kildangan on a 1-15 to 0-16 scoreline. For a full report on Éire Óg’s three-point county semi-final win please see the club website.
Everyone associated with the team is immensely proud of what this group of players have achieved this year and we would appeal to you to support the lads in the up-coming county final – fixture details to be confirmed.
The Blues have previously won the county junior A hurling title in 1983 and 2000. Éire Óg last appeared in the county junior A hurling final in 2009 when the Blues lost to Aherlow (0-12 to 2-14). You can read a full report on that game here.
Junior B: The junior Bs lost by the minimum after extra-time in Sunday’s north Tipperary quarter-final replay at Dolla – Éire Óg fought brilliantly and can hold their heads high after a very encouraging year. For a full match report on this dramatic encounter please see the club website.
Our thanks go to the junior B panel for the manner in which they represented Nenagh Éire Óg this year. We also thank the management team for their terrific efforts this year – namely Conor Ryan (manager), Derek Lillis & David Minogue.
