Playing into the wind in the opening half Éire Óg and Borris-Ileigh were level on three points apiece after eleven minutes with John Cahalan, Andrew Coffey and Brian Tuite responsible for the Blues’ early scores.
In the 11th minute Philip Hickey was fouled for a penalty which Anthony Walsh tapped over the bar. Eleven scoreless minutes then ensued before Anthony Walsh (free) forced Éire Óg into a 0-5 to 0-3 lead in the 23rd minute. Craig Himli set up Andrew Coffey for his second point before Coffey worked the ball to Philip Hickey in the 25th minute and the full-forward made no mistake with a left-handed finish. Another Philip Hickey score, this time a point, helped Éire Óg into a 1-7 to 0-4 interval advantage.

Borris-Ileigh responded with a point before a 21-yard free from Anthony Walsh was saved in the 41st minute. Philip Hickey and Anthony Walsh (free) then added to the Éire Óg tally before Borris-Ileigh struck back with a goal of their own in the 46th minute (1-12 to 1-5).
Following some terrific defensive work Brian Flynn worked the ball to John Cahalan who landed a long-range point before points from Anthony Walsh (two) and Dylan Walsh concluded the scoring from an Éire Óg point of view.
