Thanks to everyone who took part in the successful sponsored walk on Sunday last and also to everyone who so generously donated. It is a vital fundraiser for the club and thanks to everyone concerned.
A small number of players still need to pay their registration and we that they do so immediately.
Our under-16s had a fantastic win over near neighbours Burgess on a score line of 7-9 to 2-4 in the opening round of the championship. What made this win extra special was that this was the first time Éire Óg ever played a championship game at under-16 level in the A grade. Well done girls on achieving a nice piece of history.

A deflected Joe Gallagher goal in the fourth minute of injury denied Éire Óg a first round win in the 2013 Hibernian Inn north Tipperary senior hurling championship.
Saturday, April 6th
Hibernian Inn
North Tipperary Senior
Hurling Championship
Nenagh Éire Óg 0-17
Kildangan 1-14
A deflected Joe Gallagher goal in the fourth minute of injury denied Éire Óg a first round win in the 2013 Hibernian Inn north Tipperary senior hurling championship. Following a Donnacha Quinn point on the hour Éire Óg led 0-17 to 0-12, but Kildangan converted two late frees before Joe Gallagher’s speculative effort earned Séamus Gleeson’s men a share of the spoils.
Points from Michael Heffernan (2), Tommy Heffernan and Kevin Tucker (two, one free) helped Éire Óg into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead during the opening quarter. Kildangan responded in kind and cut the deficit to two points (0-7 to 0-5) before late first half scores from Tommy Heffernan, two Kevin Tucker frees and a monster of a point from Barry Heffernan retired the sides at the break with five between them (0-11 to 0-6). It is worth noting, however, that Éire Óg had conceded a penalty in the 29th minute following a Barry Heffernan foul on Joe Gallagher – Darragh Egan’s subsequent flew narrowly over the bar.
Éire Óg, now facing the wind, began the second half in positive fashion and led 0-13 to 0-7 following two Kevin Tucker frees. Kildangan corner-forward Tadhg Gallagher was also shown a straight red card in the 36th minute following a challenge on Barry Heffernan.
Three consecutive Kildangan frees reduced the Éire Óg lead significantly (0-13 to 0-10).
Efforts from Kevin Tucker, Tommy Heffernan (2) and a Donnacha Quinn point on the hour mark forced Éire Óg into a 0-17 to 0-12 lead entering injury time.
In injury time Éire Óg conceded two frees which Kildangan converted before an ambitious Joe Gallagher shot was deflected past Nenagh ‘keeper Michael McNamara.
Éire Óg face Moneygall in the second round at Cloughjordan next weekend. Fixture details to be confirmed.
Nenagh Éire Óg: Michael McNamara, Mark Flannery, Noel Maloney, John Brennan, Daire Quinn, Barry Heffernan (0-1), Billy Heffernan, Alan Kelly, Pearse Morris, Kevin Tucker (0-8, 0-7 frees), Paddy Murphy, Tommy Heffernan (0-4), Donnacha Quinn (0-2), Michael Heffernan (0-2), Killian Gleeson. 1990 County Under-16A Hurling Final
Éire Óg 0-11 Holycross-Ballycahill 0-6
Éire Óg regained the county under-16 hurling titles after a two-year lapse when they overcame Holycross in the final at The Ragg on Saturday.
Two years ago at under-14 level Holycross suffered heavy defeats at the hands of Éire Óg in the Féile na nGael and Toomevara in the rural final, but the two years showed a marked improvement. They played with great determination and commitment throughout and overcame the loss of their wing-back Tom Moloney to stay within five points of the north champions. But they lacked penetration in the forward line and all their points came from David Burke.
Éire Óg had to line out without full-back David Creamer, bringing in Michael Loughnane in his place but had the boost of the return to wing-back of Shane Connolly. They opened the game with a flurry of points in the first five minutes, but as Holycross settled down the game becamse closely contested and at the interval Éire Óg were ahead by four points – 0-8 to 0-4.
Holycross put on a lot of pressure in the second half but their weakness in the forward line was their undoing and they shot several wides from scoreable range.
Éire Óg got off to a great start with a point after only 35 seconds by Declan O’Meara. Two minutes later he was on target again and was quickly followed onto the scoreboard by Pádraig O’Kennedy.
Robbie Tomlinson put Éire Óg four points clear after ten minutes from a free.
Holycross looked in deep difficulty as they lost Tom Moloney through injury, replacing him with Pat Doyle. But they pulled themselves together and David Burke sent over their first point after eight minutes.
Four minutes later Robbie Tomlinson sent over a point from a free. David Burke responded with a similar score for Holycross.
The sixth Éire Óg point came after eighteen minutes as John Manley doubled on a high ball from Mervyn Scanlon.
Two minutes later Burke had a point for Holycross which Éire Óg hit back for a point by Tomlinson.
Coming up to the interval Tomlinson and Burke swapped points as Éire Óg turned over 0-8 to 0-4 ahead.
The second half was remarkable for its low scoring.
Pádraig O’Kennedy gave Éire Óg the start they wanted after four minutes with a point. They nearly had a goal in the tenth minute when an effort by Liam Walsh close in was blocked superbly by James Ryan.
On the quarter hour Declan O’Meara sent over Nenagh’s tenth point.
Holycross pressed hard but sent three chances wides before David Burke pointed after 24 minutes.
John Tucker wound up the Éire Óg scoring with a point a minute later, then Burke had Holycross’ last score a point.
Two minutes from the end Christy McLoughlin brought off a fine save from Kevin O’Meara and any hope Holycross had of the title evaporated.
Christy McLoughlin had a fine game between the posts for Éire Óg. Michael Loughnane slotted in well into the full-back spot. Eddie Guerin continued to show great promise as a defender. Mervyn Scanlon was very effective at midfield. Robbie Tomlinson led the attack with his usual skill, taking his scores well. Pádraig O’Kennedy and Declan O’Meara were also impressive.
For Holycross Aidan Hassett, Philip Ryan, Paudie Lee and David Burke were best on the day.
Éire Óg: Christy McLoughlin, Declan Bailey, Michael Loughnane, Liam O’Gara, Eddie Guerin, Frank McGrath, Shane Connolly, Mervyn Scanlon, John Tucker, Pádraig O’Kennedy, Robbie Tomlinson, John Manley, Declan O’Meara, Liam Walsh, Kevin Tucker.
Holycross: T. Burke, A. Hassett, J. Ryan, J. Burke, T. Moloney, P. Ryan, M. Lee, R. Doyle, P. Lee, N. Ryan, D. Burke, K. O’Meara, J. Maher, B. Treacy, P. McGrath.

Welcome!
As chairman of the Nenagh Éire Óg club I would like to welcome you to our newly-revamped club website.
In this age of ever increasing social media as a means of communication, everyone from players to officials to supporters will be well served by the changes made to our original website. We will continue to provide you with everything you need to know about the affairs of the club both past, present and future. There’s no doubt but that Nenagh people love to talk hurling and it is hoped that this website provides an additional means of communication for all people associated with the club.
We need the support of all connected with Nenagh Éire Óg and one of the most heartening aspects of the revamped site is that it will provide a vital means for those living elsewhere, especially those overseas, to remain in touch with happenings at home. In particular the integration of Facebook, Twitter and a YouTube channel with the website will enable greater engagement with a broader spectrum of supporters.
Since our original website was set up four years ago we have had nearly 40,000 unique visitors and nearly 300,000 page impressions.
This initiative is a measure of the ambition of the club in its forward thinking in relation to social media as a means of communication. Sincere thanks to Brian McDonnell and Darragh Costello for all their work in making this a reality.
I hope you enjoy your visit. Your feedback is especially welcome and you can email your comments to eireognenagh@gmail.com

Junior A Hurling League
Nenagh Éire Óg 0-20

Éire Óg proved too strong for Toomevara in their junior A hurling league clash at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh on Monday evening.
Toome stole into an early 0-2 to 0-1 lead before points from Donnacha Quinn, Davy Hackett (two frees), James Mackey (two) and Pearse Morris helped the home side into a 0-7 to 0-2 lead.
Toomevara responded with two points of their own before efforts from Adam Grattan and Gary Howard helped Éire Óg into a 0-9 to 0-4 interval lead.

The health and wellbeing of members was firmly placed at the heart of GAA clubs today at the launch of phase one of the new GAA Healthy Club Project in Croke Park.
Uachtarán CLG Liam Ó Néill and Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health Dr Tony Holohan jointly launched the project, reflecting its collaborative nature between the GAA and the HSE.
The project aims to assist GAA clubs in responding to the wide and varied health needs of their members while also extending that positive influence out to the wider communities they serve.
GAA clubs all over the world already provide great health benefits for their players, members and communities alike. Yet there exists continuous demand from clubs for guidance in many areas relating to health promotion including: healthy eating and diet, drug and alcohol awareness, mental well-being and resilience development, suicide prevention and response, the promotion of health and wellbeing through physical activity, activities for older and non-playing members.
“The GAA Healthy Club Project aims to highlight and re-enforce the great work already being done by clubs while assisting them in identifying and responding to the most important health issues amongst their membership and in their communities,” GAA President Liam O’Neill said at the launch.
A call for an expression of interest was issued to all clubs last December and January and just 18 clubs were selected to participate in phase one of the project which will run for 24 months, following which time it will be independently evaluated.
Five clubs in Munster were selected including Nenagh Éire Óg, Middleton (Cork), St Paul’s (Limerick), Beaufort (Kerry) and St Finbarr’s (Cork).
Nenagh Éire Óg juvenile club chairman Michael Geaney will be the project leader for this initiative in the club.
