The Éire Óg minor A hurlers earned a ten-point win over a determined Kilruane MacDonagh’s team at St Michael’s Park, Toomevara on Wednesday evening.

The Éire Óg minor A hurlers returned to winning ways on Wednesday evening thanks to solid ten-point victory over Kilruane MacDonagh’s.
Two Anthony Walsh frees helped Éire Óg into a 0-2 to 0-1 lead inside the opening nine minutes, but Kilruane responded in kind and led 0-3 to 0-2 by the 26th. It is worth noting that goalkeeper Adam Healy also saved Darragh Peters’ 21-yard free in the 20th minute.
The Blues closed out the half strongly. A fine individual effort from John Cahalan tied the game and handed Éire Óg their first point from play in the 27th minute. Seconds later Adam Carey was denied a goal by a fine reaction save from the Kilruane ‘keeper. Anthony Walsh converted the resultant ’65 and thanks to a left-handed John Cahalan effort in the first minute of injury time Éire Óg led 0-5 to 0-3 at the break.
Two minutes into the second half an Anthony Walsh free extended the Blues’ lead, but Kilruane tied the game thanks to a 35th goal (0-6 to 1-3). Éire Óg responded positively to the Kilruane challenge and won the remainder of this encounter 1-10 to 0-3.
Points from Philip Hickey, John Cahalan and Anthony Walsh (two frees) forced the Blues into a 0-10 to 1-3 lead by the 41st minute (four points in six minutes).
Kilruane responded with a free, but it was all Éire Óg now with Adam Carey adding to the Blues’ tally in the 43rd minute. A minute later Éire Óg landed the killer blow – John Cahalan’s delivery was broken inside by Adam Carey and Niall O’Gorman was on hand to deliver a left-handed finish (1-11 to 1-4).
Kilruane converted a free in the 46th minute before Andrew Coffey, Brian Tuite, John Cahalan and Philip Hickey added to the Éire Óg tally.
John Cahalan was denied a goal in the 57th minute when the Kilruane ‘keeper made a second terrific reaction save.
Anthony Walsh traded late points with Kilruane to close out the game.
Nenagh Éire Óg will take on Borris-Ileigh in their final game in the group phase of the Ger Gavin North Tipperary Minor A Hurling Championship on Wednesday, August 27th. That game is scheduled to take place in Toomevara at 6.15pm. As always your support is appreciated by all of the players.
