Junior-A Hurling

We wish our junior-A hurlers the very best of luck as the play Toomevara in the North final this weekend. The two sides played out a cracking game in the decider last year with the Greyhounds prevailing after extra time. Please check the fixtures section of our website for the details of this game when they become available.

Minor Football

Our minor footballers qualified for the North minor-B final on Saturday evening last following a 7-15 to 0-4 win over Silvermines in Toomevara with Josh Keller (1), Seán McNamara (1), Cian Galvin (1) and Ben West (4) getting the all-important goals. The vast improvement in performance is evident in each game with the lads training hard under the watchful eyes of Paul Ryan, Shane Connolly and Kevin Mulryan.

Under six training continues every Saturday morning from ten o’clock to eleven. New faces are always welcome to join, please contact one of the management group in advance via the club’s social media sites if you would like to join so that we can direct you to the relevant Covid protocols and registration process to ensure safe training for your child.

Under-8

Our Under eight boys traveled to Thurles to play Durlas Óg on Saturday morning in the beautiful Autumn sunshine. We saw some superb hurling from the boys during their three games. It is wonderful to see how much the boys have developed their skills and performances since we returned to play this year. Everyone involved with this brilliant group of boys should be immensely proud of the progress made this season. Keep up the practicing boys, you were all excellent again this week against Durlas Óg. This coming week we will have football as the midweek session in preparation for our upcoming football match next Saturday morning, please keep an eye on the group text for updates. Hurling training will continue each Saturday morning from ten o’clock to eleven unless we have a game. New members (boys born in 2012 or 2013) are always welcome.

Under-10

New players are always welcome (boys born in 2010 or 2011), it’s not too late to come along and try out hurling or football for the year. Please note our new training structure for the coming weeks, Tuesday evening training at the slightly earlier time of 5.30 due to the evenings drawing in, this will be an all hurling session. Hurling training on Saturday mornings from ten o’clock to eleven unless we have a game.

On Friday evening last the Under ten boys traveled to Dr. Morris Park to participate in a county football blitz. Two teams represented the club and played really well. Their skill levels have improved hugely throughout the year. The boys played Moycarkey, JK Brackens, Seán Treacys, Ballina and Moyne. Great fun was had. We have another football blitz in two weeks’ time. We are also playing hurling against Kilruane next weekend. Keep up the practicing at home boys between matches and training.

Under-14

The under fourteen boys rounded off their hurling season with a good win over Burgess in the Presidents Cup last Sunday. Many thanks to Burgess for coming in to play the game and a huge thanks to our presidents who were there on the evening to present the trophy. Also great credit to our officers for their help in organising the game in particular our secretary Catherine McTiernan. Well done to the panel of players and their families for their great efforts during the year we saw great strides made by all the players. Attention now turns to football and training has begun ahead of the championship.

Under-14

Under-14 training will continue Thursday evenings 6:00 – 7:00 and a number of league matches are due to be played in the coming weeks.

Under-12

After their superb win against Roscrea in the semi-final, Nenagh 1 team traveled to Ballycahill on Sunday afternoon to play Cahir in the county final.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be our day as we came up against a very strong Cahir team.

While the result wasn’t what we had hoped, we had a fantastic lift before the game as our co-captain Grainne Beatty came to Eire Og to wish us well. She donned the blue jersey and even picked which way we were to play if we won the toss! It was great to see Grainne again and her fighting tendencies certainly inspired her teammates on the day.

After a nervy first quarter, our girls settled well but could not find the scoresheet. It was a case of both sets of backs being on top and we went in at half time 0-1 to 0-0 down.

Two goals conceded just after half time caused the Nenagh heads to drop and Cahir pulled away to win well. The Nenagh girls left nothing behind and fought to the bitter end. With the majority of these girls still under 12 again next year, the future is very bright.

The coaches would like to thank all the Nenagh 1 girls for their commitment all year and to all the parents for their support at all the games. It has been a strange year in so many ways but camogie has been a great outlet. We wish the girls moving on to under-14s all the best and thank them for all their great play over the past couple of years.

Next Sunday our great little warriors on Nenagh 2 play Burgess 2 at the Ragg in their Shield Final. We will have training on Monday and Thursday 6-7pm to prepare.

Under-10

The under-10 girls play Kilruane MacDonaghs on Monday evening at 6.00 at home. Training continues Thursday evening as usual at 6.00.

Under-8 & Under-6

Training continues this week on Thursday from 6-7pm.

Senior Hurling

Our senior hurlers have entered this year’s Hogan Cup and have been drawn in Group 2 alongside Ballina, Kiladangan and Roscrea. Please keep an eye on the fixtures section of the website for details of these upcoming games.

Junior-A Hurling

Our junior-A hurlers were made work all the way by a superb Kilruane MacDonaghs side in Puckane on Saturday evening in the North semi-final. Trailing for long periods of the game it took a great second-half goal from captain Bob O’Brien to give the Blues the edge before winning out. The lads now look forward to the North final where they will face Toomevara.

Junior-C Hurling

Our junior-C hurlers completed the round-robin section of the championship with a 3-9 to 3-3 win over Ballinahinch in MacDonagh Park on Sunday morning with Shane Flynn (2) and Seán McTiernan grabbing the all-important goals. Nenagh have now finished on top of the group and look forward to the semi-final.

John Kissane Cup

Due to Covid-19, it was impossible for the committee of the John Kissane football sevens to organise a competition this year so on Friday morning it was decided that the winners of Sunday evening’s junior football challenge between Nenagh Éire Óg and Portroe, clubs that he coached, would be presented with the John Kissane Cup. 

On the night Portroe prevailed and captain Kevin O’Halloran gave a lovely speech afterwards where he praised the work John Kissane put into both clubs over the years.

In the North junior-B championship, we have been drawn to play the losers of Moneygall and Burgess in the quarter-final.

Tipperary GAA Clubs’ Draw

Congratulations to David Hackett who won either a car or €15,000 in the first Tipperary GAA Clubs’ Draw on Friday evening. The promoter was Seamus Cleary. We also wish to congratulate Gerry Robinson who won €200 in the same draw. A great start to the draw for the club.

Congratulations to Willie Bolger who scored two goals for Sarsfields Hurling Club in the county final against Shamrocks and secure an amazing five in a row set of titles for the Australian side last weekend. That was Willie’s fourth Australian county title to add to his two league medals and 7-a-side title with Sarsfields. Keep up the great work down under Willie

We also send our congratulations to another former player, Martin Slattery who won the Dublin junior-E championship on Sunday afternoon as Round Towers Lusk overcame the challenge of Commercials 2-13 to 2-10 in O’Toole Park. Colm and Damien O’Brien from Burgess also played for Round Towers Lusk. Well done to all involved.

Hurling training will continue each Tuesday evening from six to seven and Saturday mornings from ten o’clock to eleven unless we have a game. New members (boys born in 2012 or 2013) are always welcome. The Wednesday football training is now finished, there will be football included in the two remaining training sessions from time to time and details will issue on the group text in advance so that children can have the correct equipment with them at training.

Under-10

Under ten boys, new players are always welcome (boys born in 2010 or 2011), it’s not too late to come along and try out hurling or football for the year. Please note our new training structure for the coming weeks, Tuesday evenings from 5.45 to 7pm, this will be a combined hurling and football training with football first followed by hurling training, remember to bring hurl, helmet, gum shields and drink, If boys just want to play either code that will be fine. No training on Wednesday. Hurling training on Saturday mornings from ten o’clock to eleven unless we have a game. Keep up the practicing at home boys between matches and training.

Under-14

So close and yet so far for our Under 14A boys in their Plate Final V Kilruane last Thursday evening. It was a heartbreaking defeat in MacDonagh park for this brilliant group of boys from Éire Óg as they were pipped at the post by a last minute goal from Kilruane. The Éire Óg side fought every inch of the way in what was a whole hearted effort from the boys. Nenagh got off to a good start and clocked up some fantastic scores, however, goals from Kilruane kept their side in touch. The game was level in the final minutes and momentum seemed to be with Nenagh but as the clock entered the final minute of the game another goal came for Kilruane. Nenagh battled to pull the score back but after registering a point in reply that was to be the final score for the match. Congratulations to Kilruane who never gave up. Commiserations to this fabulous group of Éire Óg boys, they are a joy to watch and give everything each time they take to the field. There is a very bright future ahead for this group, their time will come, we have no doubt.

The Presidents’ Cup

Under 14 President’s Cup 2020

 

Congratulations to our fabulous Under 14 hurlers who won the 2020 Presidents cup in a convincing manner with a win over Burges this evening in a sun drenched MacDonagh Park.

The Éire Óg boys started well, grew into the game and dominated in most positions which gave the platform to build numerous attacks and rattle the Burges net on many occasions.

It was wonderful to have Éire Óg Club president Jimmy Morris on hand to make the presentation of the President’s Cup to the Nenagh joint Captains.

Jimmy was accompanied by fellow club presidents Ger Gavin, Paudie O’Kennedy and Mick Burns.

Thank you to all involved in making this evenings game a great success.

Junior-A Hurling

Our junior-A hurlers will play Kilruane MacDonaghs on Saturday in the North semi-final in Puckane at 5:30pm. Best of luck to Eddie Tucker and his team. 

Junior-C Hurling

Our junior-C hurlers continued their good form on Sunday morning in Ballina making it three wins from three in the North championship with a 2-21 to 2-4 win against Ballina. Goals in either half from extreme ultra veteran Lenny Ryan and Michael Hallinan helped secure the win in a game that was in the melting pot until the final quarter when Nenagh pulled away. Our final game of the group stages is on Sunday morning at 11:30am in MacDonagh Park when Ballinahinch will provide the opposition. On another note, we wish to thank former Éire Óg hurler Brian Fitzgibbon who now plays for Ballina for his help in treating one of our injured players. 

Minor-B Football

Our minor footballers left it very late to defeat Borrisokane on Saturday afternoon scoring 2-2 in stoppage time to beat the hosts in Gardiner Park, 3-7 to 1-5. A Josh Keller penalty and two injury-time goals from Cian Galvin sealed the win and the lads now advance to the North semi-final.

Our under six hurlers had their very first blitz of the year on Saturday morning last in MacDonagh Park Nenagh. The boys played Ballina in what was a fantastic morning’s hurling for these young stars. Nenagh fielded five teams for the blitz. This blitz was the first-ever match for many of these young stars and each one hurled brilliantly. A big well done to these boys on the wonderful performances and effort they all put in at this morning’s blitz. Thanks to Ballina for traveling. Training continues next Saturday morning at ten o’clock to eleven in the park.

Under-8

Our under eight boys traveled to Thurles on Saturday morning last to take part in a blitz against teams from all over Tipperary. The boys got to play teams from Drom & Inch, Thurles Gaels, Sean Treacys, Moycarkey Borris and Portroe. The boys played very well and enjoyed the opportunity to play against the many different teams. Hurling training will continue each Tuesday evening from six to seven and Saturday mornings from ten o’clock to eleven unless we have a game. New members (boys born in 2012 or 2013) are always welcome. The Wednesday football training is now finished due to school returning, there will be football included in the two remaining training sessions from time to time and details will issue on the group text in advance so that children can have the correct equipment with them at training.

Under-10

Under ten boys, this group had a very busy week with two blitzes to navigate. First blitz was a mid-week affair, the boys played Kiladangan in three very competitive games last Wednesday evening in MacDonagh Park. The boys played with great determination and effort. There were some excellent skills on display by the Nenagh boys. Thanks to Kiladangan for traveling over to play.

The second blitz for our under ten boys was Saturday morning in Thurles, the boys took on Cashel in the glorious Autumn sunshine. Our boys played three games against three Cashel King Cormacs sides and as we expected Cashel were well up for today’s challenge. Our boys were every bit equal to Cashels’ challenge and we saw some excellent skills, huge effort and determination from the Nenagh boys. Our boys produced some brilliant scores, determined hooking and blocking and excellent teamwork throughout the three games. Thank you very much to the two Under eight hurlers who stepped up and played with their Under ten club mates at the blitz, this resulted in two sets of brothers lining out for the under tens. Congratulations to these two fabulous young superstars on their under ten debut. Well done to all the boys who played against Cashel.

We couldn’t be more proud of our boys though. Onward and upward only for these lads! Thank you to the management group who mentored the boys all season.

Senior Camogie

Best of luck to our senior camógs on Saturday next as they seek to capture the club’s very first county senior league title when they play Éire Óg Annacarty in The Camogie Grounds, The Ragg at 12 noon. Due to restricted attendances, the club is hoping to stream this match. Details of which will be published on our social media accounts during the week. 

Under-12 Camogie

Team 1 played Roscrea in their county semi-final on Sunday afternoon in a Ballinahinch. Playing against a strong wind in the first half, our backs were superb, keeping the Roscrea girls scoreless. We led at half time by a point after a great run and shot from Grace Cleary.

The second half was a ding-dong battle with Roscrea scoring a goal early to go ahead. Grace Cleary got us back ahead after a super run on goal from Sophie Hourigan. She passed the ball goalward and Grace finished it to the net.

Roscrea came back again and scored another goal, putting them back ahead. The Nenagh girls didn’t bow their heads though and after great midfield play by Saoirse Ryan and Anna O’Dwyer, Sophie pounced again to get her low shot into the net.

The Roscrea girls battled right to the end, but our backs put their bodies on the line and held firm to win by a single point. Hard luck to Roscrea and well done to all the girls on a fantastic match. Thanks to all who came to support. Both teams 1 & 2 will now have their co finals next weekend, fixtures to be confirmed. We need all under-12 girls at training this week to prepare. Monday and Thursday 6-7pm.

Senior Hurling

Our senior hurlers exited the championship at the semi-final stage last Saturday evening in Semple Stadium following a 1-22 to 1-12 defeat to Loughmore Castleiney. A second-half Tommy Heffernan goal wasn’t enough to spark a revival and the mid men ran out ten point winners. The club wishes to thank joint managers Noel Maloney and John Brennan for the selfless efforts as well as their diligent and hardworking management team, all of whom left no stone unturned in their efforts to win the Dan Breen. We also wish to thank the panel of players for their dedication all year. They are a tremendous bunch of lads whose commitment to the team could never be questioned. To our loyal fans, while you could not be there in the flesh your unwavering support is appreciated by everyone in Nenagh Éire Óg.

Our junior-A hurlers were due to play Borris-Ileigh this weekend but unfortunately, our opposition was unable to field and we were awarded the game. This means that Nenagh finish top of the group in the round-robin series and advance to the semi-finals which are likely to be fixed for two weeks time. 

Junior-C

Our junior-C hurlers are due to play their next game against Ballina on Sunday at 11:30 in Ballina.

Junior Football

Our footballers will participate in the North junior-B championship this year and will be jointly managed by Lenny Ryan and Brian Duffy. Training begins this Monday at 7pm in MacDonagh Park. Anyone who is not on the WhatsApp group and would like to take part are invited to contact our management team, send a private message to any of our social media channels or alternatively arrive to training this Monday. Everyone is welcome to participate.

Senior

Congratulations to the senior team who are through to the Tipperary Senior Camogie League Final after defeating the Silvermines 2-11 to 0-12 points on Saturday. The team will face Annacarty in the final on the 19th of September in The Ragg at 11am.

Under-12

We had our under-12 Team 2 co semi-final on Sunday in Boherlahan against a strong Annacarty team. There was nothing between the teams on the pitch, but Annacarty took their scores better to run out winners 6-2 to 1-0, with a second-half goal by Sophie Hourigan.
We now go into the shield final on Sunday 20th

Team 1 play their semi-final next weekend. Training continues for all girls Monday and Thursday evening 6-7.30pm.

Under-10

U10 girls play a challenge match this Monday against Kiladangan in Puckane at 6.30.

Under-8

The under-8 girls played their third game of the year against Kiladangan and the girls’ skills and energy was brilliant. Thanks to Kildangan for hosting. Training next Thurs evening at 6pm and new players are always welcome to join in.

Under-6

Training continues this Thursday at 6pm. Parents are encouraged to lend a hand with such large numbers of under-6s attending each session. All hands on deck!
