Our minor hurlers play their first competitive match, the seniors are in Semple Stadium this Sunday evening while a first-aid training course is offered. All of this and more, in this week’s news on the Blues<\/h1>\n

Minor Hurling<\/h2>\n

Our minor hurlers were the first team in the club to take to the field in championship action this year and ended up on the wrong side of a 3-10 to 5-15 scoreline against Lorrha Rovers in Puckane. Seth Shayanewako was in flying form early on setting up goals for Ben West and Se\u00e1n Crowe however Lorrha Rovers quickly took control and as we approached half time, they took a lead which they would not relinquish for the remainder of the encounter. Jamie Cottrell got a late goal for the Blues but it wasn’t enough to close the gap. <\/p>\n

Senior Hurling<\/h2>\n

Our senior hurlers open their championship campaign on Sunday evening next, 7pm, Semple Stadium against Holycross Ballycahill in the FBD Insurance county championship.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Unfortunately, due to Covid 19 restrictions, the attendance at this fixture will be limited to 200 people. This figure includes the panels, management and backroom teams of both clubs as well as the referee and his officials. Therefore access for our supporters will be severely limited. Unless you have one of the golden tickets you will be denied entry. We do acknowledge that many of our supporters will be bitterly disappointed at not being able to attend but this is out of our hands and indeed out of the control of the GAA who are only following government restrictions. However, you can follow the proceedings as we will be providing updates on our Twitter account.<\/p>\n

The third draw from our new Community Lotto took place on Monday evening last and there was no winner. Ten names were drawn to go forward to our \u20ac500 draw and they are listed below. We are asking all of our players, members and supporters to join our Community Lotto online here<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The first draw for the new Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw will take place on Friday, 18th September and once again there are amazing prizes on offer including cars and prize money up to \u20ac25,000.<\/p>\n

The club offers its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the late Donal Hackett, Fintan Lalor St. Nenagh and Urra, Ballycommon. Donal was a former hurler with the club and is pictured above with his teammates after winning the under-15 North Tipperary final in 1970. Under-6 training will be every Saturday morning from ten o’clock to eleven. Hoping to see lots of new faces on the field, please contact one of the management group in advance via the clubs social media sites if you would like to join so that we can direct you to the relevant Covid protocols and registration process to ensure safe training for your child. . <\/span><\/p>\n

Under-8<\/span><\/h2>\n

Under-8 boys h<\/span>urling training will continue each Tuesday evening from six to seven and Saturday mornings from ten o’clock to eleven. New members (boys born in 2012 or 2013) are always welcome. Football training is also now underway with our first football training session held last Wednesday evening. Football training for this age group will be held every Wednesday evening from half past five to half past six, everyone welcome, a reminder that gum shields are compulsory for football so please make sure each child brings their own to training. Thank you to all the parents who encourage practicing at home between training sessions, this is so important to the children developing their skills and confidence on the ball and ultimately their enjoyment of the game. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Presidents’ Cup<\/span><\/h2>\n
On Friday evening last we had the pleasure of watching some fabulous hurling in MacDonagh park compliments of great teams from both Ahane in Limerick and Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g who played each other in the under-12 Presidents’ Cup. Club president Ger Gavin was on hand to present the Presidents’ Cup to the winning captain from Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g. Thanks to all involved for making tonight’s competition a great success.  <\/span><\/div>\n

Last Wednesday evening our under-16 hurlers welcomed St. Rynaghs of Offaly to MacDonagh Park for the Presidents’ Cup, named in honour of our club presidents. Ger Gavin and Jimmy Morris were on hand to make a speech and present the cup to the winning joint captains of Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g. Well done lads on the win. Under-16 hurling training each Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings and Saturday afternoon. All new players welcome. The Championship is just around the corner. We are getting a great response from our present squad.<\/span><\/div>\n

Thank you to all who helped to make the first two of our President’s Trophy tournaments very enjoyable occasions for all involved. Our under-12 and under-16 lads deserve great praise for the skill and determination on show, Club Presidents, Ger Gavin and Jimmy Morris, were very impressed by the future stars of the club. Thanks also to Christy McLoughlin for refereeing the games. We still have the under-14 tournament to look forward to and I’m sure that it will be another enjoyable day where we will also welcome our other Presidents, Mick Burns and Mick Hynes.<\/span><\/div>\n

The best of luck to these groups when the North Tipperary hurling league matches which will throw in this week. We’re all looking forward to the games with great anticipation. Goalkeeper training is now underway and any aspiring young goalie from under-14 and under-16 groups should share their interest with a mentor. Thanks to Shane Hennessy for leading this initiative.

For any child returning to training specific guidelines and requirements for their safe return have been issued on the various group communications. Thank you to those who volunteered as Covid officers for the different age groups, without this framework and support from parents return to play would not be possible. Thank you to the parents for your patience and co-operation with the new Covid procedures around return to play. Please continue to follow all of the GAA and HSE guidelines.

Thanks to Burgess Duharra for the good competitive match on Saturday.  In the first match in a long time for the players, there was great camogie played by both teams. First fixture next Wednesday 7.30 against Ballina in Nenagh.<\/div>\n

The under-14s played their first match of the year – a challenge against Burgess Duharra, at a very warm MacDonagh Park on Sunday. It was a tough outing but a lot was learned by our girls and we never gave up right to the final whistle. Thanks to Burgess Duharra for stepping in at short notice and best of luck in the championship.<\/div>\n

Under-12s’ training time this week is Monday 6-7pm. All are welcome to join us. This Thursday evening Team 2 have their first outing against Kilruane MacDonaghs at the \u00c9ire \u00d3g pitch at 6pm. All players to be at the pitch for 5.30pm please.<\/div>\n

Team 1 have a challenge match in Portroe at 6.30pm Friday evening. Parents, please ensure your child is registered with the club before training. If they are not registered, they are not insured to play.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Under-8s continue to train every Monday and Thursday evening at 6pm and would welcome any new faces that wish to give camogie a try.<\/div>\n

Under-6<\/h2>\n
We are delighted to welcome under-6s to training every Thursday from 6-7pm, starting July 23rd. The committee has decided that it’s not possible to run the final two sessions of the \u00d3gres, however, the club will offer helmets and hurleys at a discounted rate for any Under-6s wanting to join up. The girls will need to register at training on Thursday 23rd and forms will be available. <\/div>\n

Registration \u20ac30, helmet \u20ac40, Hurley \u20ac10. Parents will need to (1) complete the GAA eLearning module in advance, and (2)the health questionnaire has to be submitted before each session.<\/div>\n
