{"id":6081,"date":"2019-03-24T21:35:45","date_gmt":"2019-03-24T21:35:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/?p=6081"},"modified":"2019-03-24T21:37:50","modified_gmt":"2019-03-24T21:37:50","slug":"club-news-24-march-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/index.php\/club-news-24-march-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Club News 24 March 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">After a sad weekend for the club, here is this week&#8217;s news<\/h1>\n<h2>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<div class=\"clear\" style=\"margin-bottom:25px;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"8tjm5\" data-offset-key=\"eqmg7-0-0\">\n<div data-offset-key=\"eqmg7-0-0\">\n<h2><span data-offset-key=\"69nu2-0-0\">It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of one of our all-time great clubmen in Tommy Mulcahy early on Saturday morning.<\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_6097\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6097\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-6097\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/trip-to-croke-park-036-1024x825.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"825\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/trip-to-croke-park-036-1024x825.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/trip-to-croke-park-036-300x242.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/trip-to-croke-park-036-768x619.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/trip-to-croke-park-036-45x35.jpeg 45w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-6097\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tommy in Croke Park in 2009<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"eqmg7-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"eqmg7-0-0\">Tommy was everything a GAA volunteer should be: a coach, a mentor, a friend and someone who wasn\u2019t afraid to put his shoulder to the wheel when a job needed to be done.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"8tjm5\" data-offset-key=\"44sv3-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"44sv3-0-0\">\n<div class=\"clear\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"8tjm5\" data-offset-key=\"bo2m6-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"bo2m6-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"bo2m6-0-0\">His influence on so many \u00c9ire \u00d3g hurlers, footballers and camogie players cannot be over stated. Hundreds of players have benefitted from his knowledge of Gaelic games over the years as he coached and managed numerous juvenile, adult and camogie teams.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"8tjm5\" data-offset-key=\"1nfqq-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"1nfqq-0-0\">\n<div class=\"clear\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"1nfqq-0-0\">He gave a lifetime of service to the GAA at club, divisional and county level. He held every administrative role with Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g throughout his life. He served as chairman and secretary of St. Mary\u2019s Handball Club and held many positions at divisional&nbsp;<em>Bord na n\u00d3g<\/em>&nbsp;level.<\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"1nfqq-0-0\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"1nfqq-0-0\">An accomplished referee, he took charge of many underage and adult matches in both hurling and Gaelic football.<\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"1nfqq-0-0\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"1nfqq-0-0\">One of his proudest moments came last summer when the All-Ireland winning Community Games team made a surprise visit to thank him for all the work he did with them when they first started playing hurling.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"1nfqq-0-0\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"1nfqq-0-0\">The influence of Tommy on Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g and the town in general simply cannot be measured. This is a fantastic achievement for all involved and helps demonstrate the strength of underage hurling in North Tipperary.<\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\" style=\"margin-bottom:25px;\"><\/div>\n<h2>Senior Hurling<\/h2>\n<div class=\"clear\" style=\"margin-bottom:25px;\"><\/div>\n<p>Following last week&#8217;s loss to Loughmore Castleiney the senior hurlers got their league campaign back on track with a 2-18 to 1-10 win over Clonoulty Rossmore under lights on Friday evening in Clonoulty. Both teams stood for a very emotional, poignant and respectful minute&#8217;s silence and the young \u00c9ire \u00d3g men paid the ultimate tribute they possibly could to Tommy by capturing the&nbsp;<em>F\u00e9ile Peil<\/em> title with panache and style adding to the&nbsp;to their <em>F\u00e9ile<\/em> hurling title won on Monday last. The double within a week!<\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\" style=\"margin-bottom:25px;\"><\/div>\n<p>Our thanks go to a gallant Ballina team, referee Gareth Howard and his umpires and North BNG secretary Philip Delaney, who gave a touching speech about his memories from juvenile playing days of Tommy always being the first to greet teams at the dressing rooms. Team captain Sam O&#8217;Farrell, gave a wonderful speech and dedicated the win and trophy to his teams first coach Tommy. Well done to our boys. There\u2019s been a great effort from all of the players and it\u2019s important to keep all the good work going.<\/div>\n<div><div class=\"clear\" style=\"margin-bottom:25px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<div><b>Under-16:&nbsp;<\/b>After last Monday&#8217;s one-point loss to Portroe, Nenagh under-16s emerged one-point winners over Kiladangan on Saturday in another cracking game. &nbsp;A super hardworking effort from all of the players was on display.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><div class=\"clear\" style=\"margin-bottom:25px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<div><b>Under-12:&nbsp;<\/b>Under-12 training will continue in Nenagh College from 7pm-8pm on Wednesday evenings. The first under-12 cluster blitz will commence&nbsp;on the 6th April at 11am&nbsp;in Kilcoleman.<\/div>\n<div><div class=\"clear\" style=\"margin-bottom:25px;\"><\/div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><b>Under-6s &amp; Under-8s:&nbsp;<\/b>The under-6s and under-8s continue their indoor training in St.Mary&#8217;s Secondary School Hall each Thursday from 5.45pm to 6.45pm.
