Three teams were competing on a round robin basis with each team playing against each other. Nenagh’s first game was against Dicksboro from Kilkenny who had already beaten Clarinbridge in their first game. This match was a cracker but Nenagh were always chasing the game. Halftime score was 2-3 to 6 points in favour of Dicksboro. Nenagh had it all to do playing against a very strong breeze and twice fell behind by 5 points. However the Nenagh boys really got going in the last 10 minutes and were level with 3 minutes to play. A point by Michael Ryan put us ahead and the boys held out for a memorable win on a final score line of 2-9 to 2-8.

Second match against Clarinbridge was at 3 and a win here would secure the All Ireland final. Nenagh got off to a great start scoring a goal but was quickly cancelled out by a swift goal by Clarinbridge, halftime score 1-5 to 1-3 to Nenagh. Early in the second half Nenagh took complete control of this match as they scored 3 goals in the space of 2 minutes and from here they never looked back. A further 2 goals later on sealed the win and when the final whistle sounded Nenagh were All Ireland Community Games champions on a score line of 6-6 to 2-6.

The boys were then presented with their All Ireland gold medals and All Ireland cup to joint captains Conor Hodgins and Michael Kennedy at the presentation centre. A very large number of supporters travelled in to support this great panel which was great to see along with the players families. Players and management would like to thank all of their families and supporters who travelled to all their matches during the year. Huge sacrifices were made by numerous players during this campaign from leaving communions early, delaying holidays and returning early from holidays. This competition commenced very early in the year and so to end up as North, County, Munster and All Ireland champions on the 18th August is a phenomenal achievement by this group of players.

Bag-packing:

Thanks to all who helped out with the bag packing fundraiser in Tesco on Saturday.

Senior Camogie

Caroline Browne

The senior camogie side opening their championship on Tuesday evening in MacDonagh Park against Borris-Ileigh at 7pm.
