Two county final’s won, a senior inter-county call up and three Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g men doing well on the international stage. This week’s club notes are crammed with news on the Blues’<\/h1>\n

Tipperary<\/h2>\n

We extend our commiserations to Callan Scully and the Tipperary minor side who were defeated by Clare on Tuesday last in the Electric Ireland Munster semi-final 2-4 to 1-9. Callan played in goals in all four of Tipperary’s championship games this year and his performances caught the eye of many supporters who were more than impressed with his assured, confident displays. There’s no doubt that we will get more opportunities to see him man the goals for Tipperary in the future. <\/p>\n

Another man who is excelling on the inter-county stage is Jake Morris who this week was called into Michael Ryan’s senior panel. Jake joins Barry Heffernan and D\u00e1ire Quinn as the Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g representatives on the Tipperary senior hurling panel.<\/p>\n

Junior A<\/h2>\n

Our junior-A side exited the league on Friday evening following a 4-10 to 1-17 loss to Toomevara in MacDonagh Park. Nenagh started brightly but a goal scoring spree just before half-time handed the Greyhounds the initiative and despite a brave fightback, \u00c9ire \u00d3g just could not reel them in. They are due to play Kilruane MacDonaghs on Saturday May 26th in  MacDonagh Park at 17:30 in the opening round of the championship.<\/p>\n

Liam Heffernan<\/h2>\n

A man who has given more than most to his community is Liam Heffernan. A club stalwart, he has taught Physical Education for 42 years, mostly in Nenagh College. Indeed the school has recently decided to acknowledge Liam for his tireless work over the years in the best way they know how by naming the school’s sports hall after him. Congratulations Liam from everyone in the club. <\/p>\n

The under-11 side celebrate the full-time whistle in the Community Games final on Saturday<\/p><\/div>\n

Under-6 training continues Saturday at 10am. Please keep the children practicing at home. A couple of minutes every day will make all the difference.

Action from the Community Games final<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Our community games hurling team were convincing winners in their county final last Saturday against Fethard in Holycross in a scoreline of 10-5 to 1-3. Well done to all the panel on an exceptional performance on the day. Many thanks to all the parents and supporters who came out and cheered on the boys. We now progress to the Munster championship in July.<\/div>\n

Manager Kevin Tucker in a touching speech afterwards thanked all the players and their parents for their time and commitment throughout the year. He reserved special attention for Michael Kennedy and his father Paddy who made sure to have the time of the game rearranged so that it would not clash with sister Ava’s first holy communion! He also thanked Catherine McTiernan for all her work with the juvenile club throughout the year despite her difficult personal circumstances in recent weeks. Catherine is an unsung heroine of the club and spends hours every week working for the juvenile section and this got the loudest applause from all present. <\/div>\n

The Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g Juvenile club 10k\/5k Family Fun Run is scheduled to take place on Sunday June 17th. This year as part of the Healthy Club Project the annual run will support the worthy cause of former Tipperary hurler Seamus Hennessy who, as part of his Running for Josie campaign, is aiming to raise \u20ac200,000 for Pieta House.<\/div>\n

    Senior<\/h2>\n

    Our senior side return to action this Tuesday evening when they travel to Annacarty to take on the locals in the final round of the league and throw in is at 19:15. This fixture is purely academic as both teams have already qualified for the semi-finals and in fact have been drawn to face each other.<\/p>\n

    On Friday evening last the club held it’s Come Dine With Me fundraiser in the Hibernian Inn with special celebrity chef being none other than Michael Cleary. “Skippy” proved that not only is he a superb hurler and business man but also has special talents in the kitchen. The club wish to thank Michael for his time, the staff in the Hibernian Inn for their hospitality and all those who attended. <\/p>\n

    Darkness into Light<\/h2>\n

    The annual Darkness into Light fundraiser for Pieta House was held on Saturday morning last with an estimated 1,500 people participating. We want to thank all of those from the club who helped out and indeed those who joined the walk. <\/p>\n

    International Sportsmen<\/h2>\n

    Three former Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g players have been making waves in recent weeks on the international stage proving that not only could they hurl, but they can excel at other sports also.<\/p>\n

    Firstly we wish Barry Coffey and his Irish international soccer team mates the very best of luck on Monday evening as the face the Netherlands at 7pm in the European under-17 championships. This game will be broadcast live on RT\u00c9 2. <\/p>\n

    Secondly, Se\u00e1n Minogue won the British Open in pitch and putt over the weekend. Se\u00e1n is a former player and mentor in the club and this is his first international win. Congratulations Se\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

    Finally we commiserate with Donnacha Ryan who was part of the Racing 92 side which lost out to Leinster in the Champions Cup final in Bilbao on Saturday.<\/p>\n
