The event was deemed a terrific success with over forty teams participating. It was a glorious day weather-wise and some tremendous scoring featured during the competition.<\/p>\n<p>In the end the team representing Una Powell\u2019s claimed the top prize &#8211; a huge well done goes out to team members James Kelly, David Reddan (snr), David Reddan (jnr) &#038; Tom O\u2019Donnell (score: 54.1). In second place was the team representing The Well (PJ Shanahan, Scott O\u2019Brien, Ger Clifford &#038; Jack Dunlea) on a score of 55.6. The Carey Glass International team claimed third prize &#8211; Paul Carey, John Hanly, Paddy Murphy &#038; Niall Madden scored a cumulative 56.2. On the day Scott O\u2019Brien (The Well) won the longest drive and the nearest the pin winner was Paschal Looney (Top Oil).<\/p>\n<p>The event organisers were thrilled by the resounding support for the event from the local business community and wish to sincerely thank all team, prize and tee sponsors for their more than generous support. The respective divisional finals are expected to reach a conclusion on the week-ending Sunday, August 23rd. The draw is then expected to take place for the concluding stages of the county senior hurling championship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior A:<\/strong> The Blues have completed the group stage of this year\u2019s north Tipperary junior A hurling championship and unfortunately missed out on qualification for the knock-out stages of the competition. \u00c9ire \u00d3g would like to wish Kildangan, Burgess and Kilruane MacDonagh\u2019s all the very best for the remainder of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>The junior A team was managed by Greg Browne (manager), Con Morris, Michael Ryan and Conor Ryan. The club would like to thank the management team and the players for representing the town of Nenagh, the club, their families and most importantly themselves in such a proud manner this season. Well done lads.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior B:<\/strong> On Saturday evening the junior B hurlers narrowly missed out on a place in the north Tipperary quarter-finals when suffering a two-point defeat against Shannon Rovers at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh (0-9 to 0-11). For a full match report on this entertaining contest please see the club <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/index.php\/junior-bs-miss-out-on-quarter-final-spot-following-narrow-defeat\/\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Blues finished fourth in their group and narrowly missed out on the knock-out stages of this year\u2019s championship. \u00c9ire \u00d3g would like to wish Ballina, Lorrha-Dorrha and Shannon Rovers all the very best for the remainder of the championship.<\/p>\n<p>This year the \u00c9ire \u00d3g junior B team was managed by Cian Tucker (manager), Mark Long, John Paul King and Paddy Flynn. The club would like to thank the management team and the players for representing the town of Nenagh, the club, their families and most importantly themselves in such a proud manner this season. Well done lads.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Minor A:<\/strong> Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g are waiting on the result of the Portroe versus Roscrea game, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 19th, to know their fate in the knock-out stages of this year\u2019s championship. Newport Gaels lead group one on seven points, \u00c9ire \u00d3g are second on five points, Roscrea are third on four points, Portroe are fourth on two points and Borris-Ileigh are fifth on zero points. Roscrea have one remaining game to play &#8211; should they win that encounter Roscrea will leapfrog \u00c9ire \u00d3g into second place. The result of that game will determine the Blues\u2019 seeding in the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n<p>The 2015 competition is based on a two-group structure &#8211; the respective group winners progress to the semi-finals while the second and third-placed teams qualify for the quarter-finals. Group two has come to a conclusion. Kildangan have won that group with a one hundred per cent record with Toomevara second and Kilruane third. Burgess finished fourth. Therefore Kildangan have qualified for the semi-finals while Toomevara and Kilruane are through to the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n<p>If \u00c9ire \u00d3g finish second in the group they will face Kilruane MacDonagh\u2019s in the quarter-finals and if the Blues finish third in their group they will face Toomevara with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs.<\/p>\n<p>Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g manager John Manley is joined on the management team by selectors Derek Lillis, Christy McLoughlin and Paudie Gleeson.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Newsletter:<\/strong> The July edition of the Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g monthly newsletter is now available to download from the club <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/index.php\/newsletter\/\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Thanks again to the club communications sub-committee and in particular to Catherine McTiernan and Enda O\u2019Sullivan for pulling all of this publication together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recycling Drive:<\/strong> Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g juvenile club will host a clothing recycling drive to help raise much-needed funds. This is a great opportunity to support the work carried out by the juvenile club. Please donate all your new and used men\u2019s, women\u2019s and children\u2019s clean and unwanted clothing, shoes, belts, handbags, ties, linens and household textiles et cetera. Mobile phones are also accepted and should be placed in a separate bag. The collection will take place on Saturday, August 29th (before 12 noon). Bags can be dropped off at the MacDonagh Park Complex on Thursday, August 27th and Friday, August 28th from (5pm to 7pm) or on Saturday morning, August 29th at 10am. More from team mentors during the week. Help will be needed with catering.<\/p>\n<p>Hard luck to our under-14 hurlers who bowed out of the championship at the semi-final stage to a strong Roscrea side on Saturday. After a thrilling hours hurling, which went to extra time, the Roscrea men advanced to the final on a scoreline of 6-9 to 3-14. The lads put in a gallant effort and have to be commended for getting themselves back in to the game after the first half concession of goals to go a point in front in the dying minutes. However, The Reds levelled the game from a free in the fourth minute of injury time and finished the stronger in extra time. The Development squad will have a challenge game next week, while the under-13 players have the Under-13 Plate competition to look forward to in the next couple of weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Nenagh will host the Tipperary under-14 county A team&#8217;s match against Clare on Tuesday evening at 7pm with \u00c9ire \u00d3g players Se\u00e1n Phelan and Cian O\u2019Farrell in action for Tipp. Gavin Dooley and Rory O\u2019Donovan will take part in the B fixture on at the same time in Kilcolman. Well done lads.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday evening, August 17th the under-16A hurlers beat Kildangan 6-18 to 1-6. The under-16 championship has reached knock-out stages with quarter-finals being played on Saturday, August 22nd.
