{"id":394,"date":"2013-03-13T13:48:43","date_gmt":"2013-03-13T13:48:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.www.nenagheireog.com\/?p=394"},"modified":"2013-04-02T21:44:52","modified_gmt":"2013-04-02T21:44:52","slug":"nenagh-eire-og-selected-to-participate-in-the-gaa-healthy-club-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/index.php\/nenagh-eire-og-selected-to-participate-in-the-gaa-healthy-club-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g selected to participate in the GAA Healthy Club project"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>The health and wellbeing of members was firmly placed at the heart of GAA clubs today at the launch of phase one of the new GAA Healthy Club Project in Croke Park.<br \/>\nUachtar\u00e1n CLG Liam \u00d3 N\u00e9ill and Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health Dr Tony Holohan jointly launched the project, reflecting its collaborative nature between the GAA and the HSE.<br \/>\nThe project aims to assist GAA clubs in responding to the wide and varied health needs of their members while also extending that positive influence out to the wider communities they serve.<br \/>\nGAA clubs all over the world already provide great health benefits for their players, members and communities alike. Yet there exists continuous demand from clubs for guidance in many areas relating to health promotion including: healthy eating and diet, drug and alcohol awareness, mental well-being and resilience development, suicide prevention and response, the promotion of health and wellbeing through physical activity, activities for older and non-playing members.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"814\" height=\"470\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.www.nenagheireog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Michael-Jim-Anne-at-Croke-Park-Healthy-Club-Project1.jpg\" alt=\"Michael, Jim &amp; Anne at Croke Park - Healthy Club Project\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-399\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Michael-Jim-Anne-at-Croke-Park-Healthy-Club-Project1.jpg 814w, https:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Michael-Jim-Anne-at-Croke-Park-Healthy-Club-Project1-300x173.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 814px) 100vw, 814px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><center><em>Pictured at launch in Croke Park are Michael Geaney (juvenile chairman), Jim Nagle (club chairman) and Anne Kennedy (juvenile secretary) &#8211; three terrific officers of the club!<\/em><\/center><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe GAA Healthy Club Project aims to highlight and re-enforce the great work already being done by clubs while assisting them in identifying and responding to the most important health issues amongst their membership and in their communities,\u201d GAA President Liam O\u2019Neill said at the launch.<br \/>\nA call for an expression of interest was issued to all clubs last December and January and just 18 clubs were selected to participate in phase one of the project which will run for 24 months, following which time it will be independently evaluated.<br \/>\nFive clubs in Munster were selected including Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g, Middleton (Cork), St Paul\u2019s (Limerick), Beaufort (Kerry) and St Finbarr\u2019s (Cork).<br \/>\nNenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g juvenile club chairman Michael Geaney will be the project leader for this initiative in the club. <\/p>\n<p>[hr]<br \/>\n<em>If you need to contact \u00c9ire \u00d3g please do so via our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nenagheireog.com\/index.php\/contact\/\">Contact<\/a> page.
