Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g bowed out of the county junior A Camogie championship today when they were defeated by Cahir in the semi-final 1-9 to 0-7 at The Ragg.

In defeat \u00c9ire \u00d3g have lost nothing in their first year competing at this grade having won a number of games in both the league and championship and the improvement in the quality of the girls\u2019 play has steadily improved throughout the season. <\/p>\n

Cahir started brightly when Michelle Walsh opened their account with a well-taken point in the second minute and this was followed up with another point seven minutes later from the impressive Rois\u00edn Howard. <\/p>\n

It took the Blues fourteen minutes before registering their opening score when Holly O\u2019Brien pointed a free from thirty-five yards after a foul on Michelle Collins. <\/p>\n

Rois\u00edn Howard added another point for the Cahir side before gathering a ball forty yards out and weaving her way through the heart of the Nenagh defence before unleashing a bullet which was stunningly saved by Sarah Quigley, the first of many fine saves from the Nenagh net minder. <\/p>\n

Holly O\u2019Brien pointed another free to leave the half-time score at Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g 0-2 Cahir 0-4.<\/p>\n

With a strong breeze at their backs Nenagh started the second half brightly, but despite enjoying the lion\u2019s share of possession they failed to make it count on the score board. <\/p>\n

Rois\u00edn Howard punished \u00c9ire \u00d3g with a fine point before Michelle Walsh scored the only goal of the game to deliver a body blow from which Nenagh never really recovered. <\/p>\n

Further disaster struck the Nenagh girls when centre-back Ciara McGrath, who was having a tremendous tussle with Howard, went off injured. Following this Howard struck four more points to finish her side\u2019s scoring. <\/p>\n

To be fair Nenagh never gave up and Grace O\u2019Brien scored three points while Alanna Morris also got her name on the score sheet.<\/p>\n

Nenagh can be proud of their performances this year and their battling qualities are to be admired. Our backs were superb with Ciara McGrath clearing a lot of ball while Amy Heffernan had one of her best games in a blue jersey. <\/p>\n

Midfield battled hard while our forwards tried hard, but couldn\u2019t find the space in which they thrive. <\/p>\n

We are constantly improving year on year and with the ambition we have displayed over the years since our foundation it won\u2019t be long before we are back challenging for honours in this grade. <\/p>\n

Cahir, a side who brought many of their footballing skills to the game with their slick short passing and funnelling back to crowd out our forwards, will take a lot of beating in the final where they face Cashel Camogie Club and we wish both sides well. <\/p>\n
