Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g earned a seventeen-point win over Roscrea at Moneygall on Friday evening.

Nenagh \u00c9ire \u00d3g collected their third win in the Clean Ireland Recycling County Senior Hurling Championship on Friday evening in Moneygall when beating Roscrea with seventeen points to spare. <\/p>\n

Given the landscape of the group Roscrea, having already lost to Templederry and Clonoulty-Rossmore, had little to play for. \u00c9ire \u00d3g had the result sewn up prior to the break. Indeed, the Blues led 1-16 to 0-4 at the interval.<\/p>\n

Roscrea started reasonably well with points from Liam England, David Buckley and Michael Campion leaving just a point between the sides by the 13th minute (0-3 to 0-4). Paul Ryan, Donnacha Quinn (free), Tommy Heffernan and Andrew Coffey were responsible for \u00c9ire \u00d3g\u2019s early scores. Roscrea were also encouraged by an early Davin Flynn goal chance which was saved by \u00c9ire \u00d3g \u2018keeper Michael McNamara.<\/p>\n

Between the 14th and 21st minutes, however, Roscrea shipped 1-9 without reply. A Paddy Murphy point launched the onslaught while Tommy Heffernan, Donnacha Quinn, Paul Ryan, Andrew Coffey and James Mackey added to the Blues\u2019 tally. Tommy Heffernan struck once more in the 19th minute before points from Donnacha Quinn and Paul Ryan helped \u00c9ire \u00d3g into a 0-13 to 0-3 lead.<\/p>\n

The \u00c9ire \u00d3g goal materialized in the 21st minute when a reverse pass from James Mackey sent Paddy Murphy through on goal. The full-forward then shook off a heavy challenge before expertly shortening the grip and beating Daryl Ryan with a clever finish.<\/p>\n

A Tommy Fitzgerald effort in the 22nd minute served as a prelude to three further \u00c9ire \u00d3g points from Tommy Heffernan, Paul Ryan and Se\u00e1nie Geaney to leave fifteen points between the sides (1-16 to 0-4).<\/p>\n

Roscrea\u2019s Liam England went for goal from an ambitious distance in the 30th minute, but \u00c9ire \u00d3g full-back John Brennan made a telling block.<\/p>\n

Three minutes into the second half Tommy Heffernan converted a sideline ball; James Mackey and Tommy Heffernan then added to the \u00c9ire \u00d3g tally (1-19 to 0-4).<\/p>\n

A brace from Jason Fitzpatrick (one free) cut the gap to sixteen points by the 38th minute, but the Blues responded with efforts from Michael Heffernan, Paul Ryan and Mark Tuite to force Nenagh into a 1-22 to 0-6 lead.<\/p>\n

Two further points from the in-form Jason Fitzpatrick cut the gap to seventeen points by the 46th minute before Tommy Heffernan\u2019s 21-yard free was saved by Roscrea \u2018keeper Daryl Ryan.<\/p>\n

\u00c9ire \u00d3g\u2019s 23rd point of the evening arrived courtesy of Tommy Heffernan with eleven minutes to play and then, with ten to go, Roscrea\u2019s Jason Fitzpatrick thundered home a rasping left-handed shot. <\/p>\n

In the 53rd minute Daryl Ryan denied Mark Tuite a goal with another fine save before points from Michael Heffernan (\u201965) and Tommy Heffernan (free) brought this contest to a close.<\/p>\n

The draw for the last sixteen knock-out phase of the county senior hurling championship will be made in due course.<\/p>\n
