Newport Gaels beat the \u00c9ire \u00d3g minor A team with eleven points to spare at a wet Templederry on Thursday evening.

Newport Gaels started well and led 1-1 to no-score after six minutes. \u00c9ire \u00d3g responded with a fine left-handed score from Craig Himli in the seventh minute. Newport added two points to their tally before the Newport \u2018keeper made a fine save to deny Dylan Walsh a goal in the 12th minute.<\/p>\n

Three Anthony Walsh frees dragged \u00c9ire \u00d3g back into the game to leave just three between the sides by the 19th minute – seconds later \u00c9ire \u00d3g \u2018keeper Adam Healy made a superb save to deny Newport Gaels a goal.<\/p>\n

\u00c9ire \u00d3g tied the game with an Ois\u00edn Ryan three-pointer in the 22nd minute following terrific work from Philip Hickey to turn the ball over – 1-4 apiece.<\/p>\n

To their credit Newport closed out the half in positive fashion. Following five unanswered points from play the Gaels led 1-9 to 1-4 at the break.<\/p>\n

Newport landed a point immediately after the interval to stretch their lead to six, but \u00c9ire \u00d3g hit back in the 33rd minute when Anthony Walsh fired home a 21-yard free following a foul on Adam Carey (2-4 to 1-10).<\/p>\n

The Gaels hit back with four consecutive points to lead 1-14 to 2-4 by the 43rd minute.<\/p>\n

An Adam Carey shot demanded a fine save from the Newport \u2018keeper in the 46th minute and Anthony Walsh converted the resultant \u201965 to leave six between them.<\/p>\n

Newport struck for a game-clinching goal in the 49th minute. Anthony Walsh hit back with a converted free, but Newport then landed three consecutive points to take a 2-17 to 2-6 lead.<\/p>\n

Anthony Walsh converted a second 21-yard free in the 59th minute while Adam Carey landed \u00c9ire \u00d3g\u2019s second point from play on the hour mark (3-7 to 2-17).<\/p>\n

Newport Gaels closed out the game in emphatic fashion with four unanswered points to seal an eleven-point win. Unfortunately \u00c9ire \u00d3g also saw a player sent off in the 57th minute.<\/p>\n

Great credit is due to Newport Gaels for a fine performance.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Ger Gavin North Tipperary Minor A Hurling Championship is being played on a single group round robin format with the top four teams progressing to the semi-finals. While the Blues lost this encounter with Newport Gaels the \u00c9ire \u00d3g lads have already beaten Toomevara, Ballina and Roscrea. The Blues\u2019 remaining group games are against Borris-Ileigh and Kilruane MacDonagh\u2019s.<\/p>\n
