The Blues got their junior B championship campaign off to an encouraging start in Templederry on Sunday afternoon with a 3-16 to 1-9 win over the \u2018Mines.

Points from David Cleary and Thomas O\u2019Brien helped \u00c9ire \u00d3g into an early lead before Niall O\u2019Gorman fired home a left-handed shot in the seventh minute and the Blues led 1-2 to 0-1.<\/p>\n

Ois\u00edn Ryan then set up Anthony Walsh for a fine right-handed score before Ois\u00edn Ryan belted in a second \u00c9ire \u00d3g goal in the 11th minute – 2-3 to 0-1.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Mines responded with two points before an Anthony Walsh free and super strike from Conor Kirwan helped \u00c9ire \u00d3g into a 2-5 to 0-3 lead by the 18th minute.<\/p>\n

Anthony Walsh then traded a brace of points (one free) with Silvermines before the \u2018Mines belted in a rebound following a terrific save from Brian Darcy in the \u00c9ire \u00d3g goal – 2-7 to 1-5.<\/p>\n

Some terrific work by Thomas O\u2019Brien created the room for Anthony Walsh to score a fine point and the sides retired at the interval with six between them – 2-8 to 1-5.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the \u2018Mines \u2018keeper misjudged David Cleary\u2019s long-range free in the opening minute of the second half and handed \u00c9ire \u00d3g a third goal.<\/p>\n

Soon after David Cleary and Anthony Walsh added frees while an Ois\u00edn Ryan point in the 39th minute left 12 points in it – 3-11 to 1-5.<\/p>\n

A Silvermines free preceded a fantastic moment in the game when Ois\u00edn Ryan\u2019s overhead flick struck a crossbar in the 41st minute following a searching Conor Kirwan delivery.<\/p>\n

Two Anthony Walsh frees helped \u00c9ire \u00d3g into a 3-13 to 1-8 advantage entering the final ten minutes. <\/p>\n

Some good combination play and a fine pass from Conor Kirwan set up Dylan Walsh for a great point in the 51st minute while two points from David Cleary brought the scoring to a close from an \u00c9ire \u00d3g point of view.<\/p>\n

Late in the game Brian Darcy made a stunning save to deny the \u2018Mines a consolation goal.<\/p>\n

In the group phase of this year\u2019s championship \u00c9ire \u00d3g will also face Newport and Portroe while Ballinahinch have withdrawn from the competition. The group winners will progress to the north semi-finals while the second and third-placed teams progress to the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n
