Not Men but Giants – Nenagh are Tipperary Peil na n\u00d3g A Champions 2026<\/h1>\n

Peil na n\u00d3g Division 1 Champions 2026<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/div><\/span><\/p>\n

Peil na n\u00d3g 2026 finally took place on Saturday, 25 April after a postponement due to the fuel crisis. Our boys were drawn to play in Cashel against Cashel King Cormacs and Moyle Rovers. In the other Division 1 group, JK Brackens, Clonmel Commercials and Rockwell Rovers competed in New Inn.<\/p>\n

Having won the North under-13 final in 2024 and narrowly losing to Moyle Rovers in the county semi-final at both A and D level, the boys were eager for another opportunity to test themselves against the best teams in the county.<\/p>\n

In the first game, the boys started slowly against Cashel but quickly settled, running out comprehensive winners with some well-taken scores, winning 8-5 to 1-3. In the second game, they renewed rivalries with Moyle Rovers and again secured a convincing win. Kirsters Janitens was in inspired form at full forward, having missed the county semi-final two years ago through injury. Final score: 4-6 to 1-3.<\/p>\n

Having topped the group, the boys advanced to the final against JK Brackens, who topped the other group. As Brackens were county under-13 champions two years ago, the boys knew a strong test awaited them.<\/p>\n

The final proved to be another tough battle but, as they had shown all day, the boys were not going to be outworked. Their work rate was exceptional throughout. They hunted in packs and supported each other time and again.<\/p>\n

Our defence was outstanding once more, conceding very little, while the forwards delivered when it mattered. Indeed, the Brackens goalkeeper was arguably player of the match, making several remarkable saves. Final score: 3-1 to 0-2.<\/p>\n

On the day, Dylan Corrigan was excellent in goal, conceding very little and delivering accurate kickouts. The full-back line of Vadzim Siareolzich, Evan Jones and Michael Nolan stood firm throughout. Fionn Tucker anchored the defence superbly at centre-back, while Harry Bailey and Max Coughlan worked tirelessly up and down the field.<\/p>\n

Paraic Sheehy and Harry Coughlan were outstanding at midfield, fielding kickouts and linking defence with attack. The half-forward line of Odhran Cahill, David Mullarkey and Daniel O\u2019Leary were relentless, constantly driving forward, supporting each other and contributing valuable scores.<\/p>\n

The full-forward line of Jake Rivett, Kirsters Janitens and Alex Hogan caused serious problems for opposition defences all day. The substitutes also made a big impact, bringing energy and pace. Finn Morris scored an excellent goal against Cashel, while Donagh Farrell struck the post with a goal-bound effort in the final. Sean Tully, James Cleary and Harry Mulcahy all contributed greatly with skill and effort.<\/p>\n

After the game, joint captains David Mullarkey and Kevin Hogan accepted the cup from PJ Bowden of Tipperary Bord na n\u00d3g. Kevin was a significant loss due to injury, but his encouragement and support at training has been invaluable. As the only player from this group to make the North Mid under-14 football panel last year, his absence was keenly felt, and the team looks forward to his return. The captains also thanked the referee and Cashel for hosting the competition.<\/p>\n

Great celebrations followed back in Nenagh, with the team parading the cup through the town in convoy. Thanks to the Juvenile club for organising food at MacDonagh Park. The boys then made the traditional visit to JKC\u2019s for ice cream, where club legend Michael Cleary shared stories of county-winning teams visiting the shop since the 1970s.<\/p>\n

Attention now turns to the Peil na n\u00d3g National Finals in Derry on Saturday, 27 June, where the team will represent Tipperary against the best in the country.<\/p>\n

Before that, the boys will compete in the Division 1 F\u00e9ile County Hurling competition on Monday, 4 May in Nenagh and Toomevara. They face Drom & Inch and Mullinahone in the group stages, while Toomevara, Boherlahan Dualla and Cashel contest the other group.<\/p>\n

Commiserations go to our under-21 footballers who were defeated by Ballina in the North final on Friday evening last in St. Michael’s Park, Toomevara on a 1-6 to 3-9 scoreline with Nenagh’s goal coming from a second-half penalty by Michael Cleary MacLoone. The club wishes to thank the management of Leonard Ryan, Dan O’Donovan and George Coonan and the panel of players for all their efforts this year. Attention now turns to the junior football championship. <\/p>\n

A mixed bag of results for our Tipperary Hurling teams in the last week. The under-20s, with our representative Jake Donnellan Houlihan, were defeated by Clare with the banner scoring 2-01 in added time to edge Tipp by a single point. They now face Limerick on Wednesday, with throw in at 7pm in the Gaelic Grounds. Best of luck. <\/span><\/p>\n

Under the floodlit glow of the Astro, where shadows danced and ash clashed, the great unbeaten reign of the bibs was brought crashing to earth in a storm of sticks, sweat and sheer sporting theatre.<\/h2>\n

In a 30-minute gladiatorial duel of 3v3 social \u2018ground\u2019 hurling, it was the renegade trio\u2014Martin Gleeson, Eamonn Moylan and the irrepressible Mick Hutchinson\u2014who rose from the turf like warriors of old to topple the kings in bibs, Jamie Kennedy, Martin Hogan and John Phelan, by 8-6 in a contest that crackled with drama from first sliothar to last.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Like lightning striking twice, Hutchinson exploded from the blocks with a blistering early brace, his hurley singing a sweet but deadly tune. Yet the bibbed battalion would not bow. Stirred by pride and fire, they surged back with four unanswered scores\u2014Hogan twice, Kennedy and Phelan joining the charge\u2014to seize a 4-2 advantage and swing momentum like a pendulum at the interval.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

But if the first act belonged to the bibs, the second was a symphony in non-bib colours. Enter Hutchinson again\u2014unstoppable, unplayable, untouchable. With the poise of a poet and the precision of a surgeon, he rifled home another brace, including a wonder goal on the run off his left that drew gasps from the watching faithful. Gleeson, ever the willing accomplice, added his own strike as the tide turned once more\u20145-4 to the challengers.<\/p>\n

The third act? Pure theatre. Kennedy and Hogan refused to let the curtain fall, dragging their side back into the fray with two defiant scores. But this night had a hero; and his name was Mick Hutchinson. Completing not one but two hat-tricks\u2014yes, a double salvo of scoring brilliance\u2014he drove his side onward, with Gleeson adding his second for good measure.<\/p>\n

Though the bibs landed two late blows through Kennedy and Hogan, the die was cast, the crown had slipped and the scoreboard told the tale: 8-6 to the non-bibs.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Hutchinson\u2019s wonder strike and goal-laden masterclass earned him a unanimous Man of the Match, while Gleeson\u2019s double contribution proved vital in the final reckoning. For the fallen champions, Hogan\u2019s hat-trick alongside Kennedy\u2019s brace and Phelan\u2019s effort spoke of a battle fought with heart if not the final reward.<\/p>\n

And so the dust settles on a night where legends were forged and streaks were shattered. The Astro awaits once more. Next Wednesday. 8:15pm. The clash continues.<\/p>\n
