Congratulations also goes to Rhys Cottrell and James Heffernan on their selection to the Tipperary Celtic Challenge team. Round One of the North Junior-A Hurling League will commence on Saturday April 4th, with Nenagh travelling to Roscrea.<\/p>\n

On Sunday last Tipperary defeated Leitrim in Clonmel in the National Football League, 1-18 to 0-8. Amongst the Leitrim squad was D\u00e1ire O’Shea whose father Killian played hurling and football with Nenagh back in the 1990s winning North Tipperary senior football championships during that era. D\u00e1ire’s grandmother Mary and Killian travelled south to Clonmel to support D\u00e1ire on a wet and dreary day. <\/p>\n

Ten-Star Phelan Leads Non-Bibs Charge in Wednesday Night Classic!<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Under the Astro lights last Wednesday night, a no-holds-barred 40-minute battle of 3 v 4 Social \u201cground\u201d Hurling served up drama, skill and plenty of goals as the bibs trio of Ger Ryan, Mick Hutchinson and Conor Hayes took on the four-man non-bibs outfit of John Phelan, Conor O\u2019Donovan, Martin Gleeson and Martin Hogan. When the dust settled, it was the non-bibs who claimed bragging rights with a hard-earned 14\u20139 victory<\/strong> in a contest that had everything.<\/p>\n

 

<\/div>\n

Despite being outnumbered, the youthful bibs side flew out of the traps and stunned their opponents by edging the opening quarter 2\u20131<\/strong>, their energy and pace causing all sorts of problems early on.<\/p>\n

 

<\/div>\n

But the non-bibs regrouped and struck back in style in the second quarter, firing in five goals to three<\/strong> to seize control and move into a 6\u20135 halftime lead<\/strong>, with the momentum beginning to swing their way.<\/p>\n

 

<\/div>\n

The third quarter turned into a straight shootout, with neither side giving an inch as both teams rattled the net three times apiece<\/strong>, setting up a grandstand finish.<\/p>\n

 

<\/div>\n

When it mattered most, experience proved decisive. The non-bibs took command in the final quarter, powering clear with five goals to one<\/strong> to seal a convincing victory and underline the value of seasoned know-how.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Goal-scoring heroics came thick and fast, none more so than from John Phelan, who delivered a devastating performance with 10 goals<\/strong>, while Conor O\u2019Donovan added 3<\/strong> and Martin Gleeson chipped in with 1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

 

<\/div>\n

The bibs men refused to lie down, however, with Conor Hayes, Ger Ryan and Mick Hutchinson each remarkably helping themselves to a hat-trick<\/strong> in a spirited display against the odds.<\/p>\n

 

<\/div>\n

Three spectacular strikes battled it out for Goal of the Game<\/strong> honours. Conor Hayes produced a moment of genius by striking directly from a sideline puck that caught everyone napping. Mick Hutchinson unleashed an outrageous swerving effort from deep inside his own half that fooled the goalkeeper completely. And Martin Gleeson finished off a flowing passing move with a clinical strike after superb team interplay.<\/p>\n

Between the posts, Martin Hogan earned the Goalkeeping Performance of the Game<\/strong> award thanks to a string of crucial saves in the closing stages, repeatedly denying the bibs side and preserving the winning margin.<\/p>\n

The Player of the Match<\/strong> award was never in doubt. John Phelan\u2019s incredible 10-goal haul<\/strong> not only made him the night\u2019s standout performer but also saw him enter the exclusive double-figures club<\/strong> for the very first time.<\/p>\n
