Scor Na bPaisti 2012

A very successful parish final of SCOR na bPaisti took place on Friday13th Jan 2012. Thanks to Mairead Long, Shane Connolly and their team for all their hard work. Well done to all participants and best of luck to those that will now go on to represent the club at divisional level.

Congratulations to Eva McKeogh on her win in the Scor County final in Cashel on Sunday night and well done to our Ballad Group of Sinead Long, Maire Long, Sarah Kennedy, Susan O’Hara, Orlaith Kennedy on being runners up. The first ever parish final of Scor Na bPaisti took place in the Complex on Friday the 4th Mar 2011. In what was a very well attended event, all participants performed exceptionally well and every participant received a medal.

 

The following were successful on the night.

Figure Dancing: Sinead Long, Maire Long, Caoimhe Connolly, Megan Ryan, Orlaith Kennedy, Tara Delany, Michelle Barry, Niamh Sheridan.

Solo Singing: Eva McKeogh.

Instrumental group: Saoirse Griffin, Fiachra Carey, Sophie Hogan, Maire Long, Sinead Long. Recitation: Sinead Long

Ballad group: Sinead Long, Maire Long, Sarah Kennedy, Susan O’Hara, Orlaith Kennedy.

Novelty Act: Anna Dillon, Sorcha Nagle, Sarah Kennedy, Susan O’Hara, Clodagh Ryan, Alicia Hallinan, Maebh Coffey, Ciara Phelan.

Well done to everyone who helped out in any way involved in organizing the event and especially to our cultural officer Mairead Long for all her work and effort. All the winners now go forward to the area semi-final which is being held in Borrisoleigh on Fri 11th March at 7:30pm.

The Scor Committee wishes to inform you that the North Final for Scor na Nog takes place in Templederry on 27th November 2009 at 7pm sharp.  Since it is such short notice we have organised a Quiz team to go forward for the competition.  If anyone is interested in representing Eire og for the other events please contact Mairead Long @ 087 9686308 as soon as possible.  The events are as follows: (a) Figure Dancing (b) Recitation (c) Solo Singing (d) Instrumental Music (e) Ballad Group (f) Novelty Act (g) Question time (already have a team) (h) Set Dancing.  We will have more information about Scor na Bpaisti next week.

Scor na bPaisti

For the first time in over two decades, the Nenagh Eire Og club participated in Scor, taking part in this years Scor na bPaisti. Thanks to the trojan efforts of Mairead Long and Margaret Hennessy, participants from the club are now taking to the stage again for singing, set dancing, figure dancing, recitations, ballad groups, novelty acts and musical competitions. We had participants in 5 of the disciplines and were successful in Instrumental music (Roisin Starr, Shane Hennessy, Elana Morris) and in the Quiz (Andrew Coffey, Philip Hickey, Shane Hennessy). These now go on to represent the club in the North Final which takes place at 7:00pm on Friday 27th March in the Community hall Portroe. Other participants on the night included Solo song (Marie Long) Ballad group (Anna Dillon, Sinead Long, Maura Long) and Figure dancing (Niamh Sheridan, Jeremy Kennedy, Maire Long, Sinead Long, Pat O Brien, Natasha O Brien) Well done to all It is hoped after this that Scor will now go from strength to strength within the club. If you are interested in getting involved in the future feel free to contact Mairead or Margaret.

What's Scór ?

Scór promotes all the best in traditional music, song and dance under the Cumann Lúthchleas Gael banner. It allows GAA members and communities the social outlet to participate in a range of stage activity.

Cumann Lúthchleas Gael on promoting Scór at adult and juvenile levels has helped to play an important role on the revival of our culture and heritage. Both juveniles and adults in towns and villages countrywide have been afforded the opportunity to interact in the best of Irish culture.

Competitions commence within a parish and progress onto divisional/district level with the standard of fare ever improving onto county and provincial finals. As on the playing fields, the climax of the season comes on All Ireland Final Day with Athlone, Belfast , Castlebar, Killarney, Limerick and Millstreet amongst the locations destined by Scór personel over the recent past.

Scór na bPáistí    - Open to all children attending Primary School

Scór na n-Óg - Open to competitors - Under 17 years of age on January 1st.

Scór Sinsear - Open to competitors - Over 17 years on January 1st.

 

Na Rialacha - Rules of Competition

Rince Fóirne

  1. Each group shall consist of not more than eight dancers and not less than four.
  2. Dance groups must provide musical accompaniment. Live musical accompaniments limited to four (4) persons playing only instruments using the in-house amplification system.
    Penalty: Disqualification.
  3. One dance to be contributed by each group. The winning dance in Senior and Scór na nOg is prohibited from being danced in the following year.                                                                                           
  4. A dance on/off will be allowed but no marks will be awarded for it.
  5. Duration of the dance:      The time required for dancing lead-around, one body only andone figure of their dance.
    Nota: Lannigan's Ball and the Sally Gardens may be danced as an eight-hand dance.
  6. Dances must be chosen from all 4-hand, 6-hand and 8-hand dances.
  7. It is recommended that dancing groups be mixed (i.e consist of boys and girls if possible). However; dancing groups shall be judged on their performance and not on, whether or not they are mixed.
  8. It is recommended that dancers wear club colours and the wearing of dancing wigs is banned.
  9. Dancing groups shall not be allowed dance in schools of dancing costumes.
    Penalty: Disqualification.
  10. A timber stage shall be provided at all levels.
  11. If, during a stage performance, a dancer sustains an injury or falls on stage, the performance shall be suspended and if the injured person(s) is/are unable to continue, substitute(s) shall be permitted and the group will be allowed dance again at the end of the respective competition.
    However, the group will carry any error penalty forward to the second performance. 

       Nóta: In the above event an additional medal for that level of the competition will be awarded to the substitute dancer.

Amhránaíocht Aonair

  1. Songs must be of the history of Ireland , its people, places or folklore.
  2. Each competitor shall sing one song.
  3. If a competitor wishes he/she may have one instrumental accompaniment, but piano or keyboard is not allowed.
  4. Provided a competitor sings a song of Irish character; adjudication will be on the standard of singing, not on the selection of the song.
  5. One contribution of not more than six minutes duration from each competitor. Failure to comply with time period shall mean a penalty of one mark for very five seconds overtime.

    Nota:      Coiste Naisunta Scor is pleased to note the number of songs being sung in the Irish language and encourages this trend.

Ceol Uirlise

  1. This competition is for Irish music only.
  2. The competition is for groups of at least two and not more than five people.
  3. In Scór na nOg each group shall play only two (2) tunes, each to be of different character.
    In Scór Sinsear each group shall play three (3) tunes made up of one single tune and a selection of two (2) tunes similar in character but different in character to first tune be played i.e. one jig and two reels or one reel and two jigs etc.
    Nota:     The penalty for breach of this Rule shall be disqualification.
  4. An electrified instrument, mains or battery operated, is not permitted.
    Penalty:     Disqualification.
  5. The piano is not allowed.

Aithríseoireacht /Scéalaíocht

  1. Recitations, Monologues, poems and stories relating to Ireland , its history, local folklore, people and places, or in the Irish Language shall be acceptable for this competition. Humour and originality are permitted.
  2. One contribution of not more than six minutes duration from each competitor. Failure to comply with time period shall mean a penalty of one mark for every ten seconds overtime.
  3. Where a competitor violates Rule by introducing his/her recitation/story (other than announcing the name and author of the piece) the preamble shall be included as part of the presentation in counting the time allowed.
  4. Competitors are allowed to dress up if they so wish.
  5. Backing or accompaniment is allowed.
  6. Coarseness or stage Irishness are no substitutes for genuine humour and good diction.

Bailéad Ghrúpa

  1. Ballads must be of the History of Ireland, its people, places and folklore.
  2. Groups must sing two contrasting ballads, the contrast to be in tempo.
    Groups are encouraged to sing at least one ballad in Irish.
  3. It is not permissible to have a conductor nor accompaniment by anyone outside the group
    Penalty: Disqualification
  4. A piano is not allowed.
  5. Groups must comprise at least three and not more than five members including musicians.
  6. The overall emphasis of the performance will be on group singing. Duets and solo performances are allowed for effect but must not dominate the performance.
  7. The number in the group playing instruments be limited to three per song.
    Penalty: - Automatic disqualification.
    Groups are not required to have instruments.
  8. Electrified mains or battery operated instruments are not permitted.
    Nota: An Coiste Naisiunta Scar is pleased to note the number of ballads being sung in the Irish Language and encourages this trend.

Groups are also encouraged to sing ballads pertaining to G.A.A. players, teams or local events.

Adjudication will be on the standard of singing and not the selection of the ballad.

Tráth na gCeisteanna

Each team shall receive questions of the following marks and categories:

3 Individual 4 Mark questions on GAA -12 Marks
3 Individual 4 Mark questions on Irish History -12 Marks
3 Individual 4 Mark questions on General Knowledge -12 Marks
4 Team 6 Mark questions on
(a) Irish History  - 6 Marks
(b) GAA in Irish (must be answered as "Gaeilge")  - 6 Marks
(c) General Knowledge  - 6 Marks
(d) GAA  - 6 Marks

Total -60 Marks

Nóta: All GAA individual questions in Scór na nÓg be confined to the previous ten years.

Scór na bPaistí is a county competition only, questions are all team orientated.

Nuachleas

  1. This competition is for any act of the competitors' choice with the emphasis to be placed on acting, production, culture and novel idea. Its aim is to provide light entertainment. Its theme must be entirely Irish in character and must not under any circumstances belittle our country or its people. Mime is acceptable as a Novelty Act.
  2. The act may be performed by groups of at least two and not more than eight people.
  3. Each contribution must take not more than 10 minutes including setting-up and removal of props. All debris must be cleared from the stage floor. Debris may include items such as water; flour; talcum powder and rice amongst others.
    A warning bell will ring after 9 minutes.
    Failure to comply with time period shall mean a penalty of one mark for every ten seconds overtime.
  4. Props, which must be fully assembled before being brought on stage, are allowed.
    Nóta: The function of disqualification rests with the Adjudicators.
  5. Coarseness is no substitute for genuine humour and shall be penalised by deduction of 5 marks.
  6. Vulgar actions, vulgar words or sexual innuendo shall disqualify. (Disqualification is the responsibility of the adjudicators).
  7. In Scór na nÓg competitions the representation of alcohol or drunkenness on stage shall not be permitted.
    Penalty: - Disqualification.
  8. One item of electrical mains operated equipment other than the amplification provided shall be allowed. More than one item, Penalty: - Disqualification.
    However, it is permissible to use a battery operated equipment. Use of mains electricity is allowed in the case of tape recorders and CD players.

Nota: Contribution baased on Irish Historical events and culture are encouraged.

 

Rince Seit

  1. Each group shall consist of not more than eight dancers and not less than four.
  2. Dance groups must provide music accompaniment.However prerecorded or live musical accompaniments shall be limited to four (4) musicians playing instruments using in-house amplification system only..
    Penalty: Disqualification.
  3. Groups may only dance two parts of a traditional set.
  4. Groups may dance set dances traditional to their own areas if they so wish.
  5. It is recommended that dancing groups be mixed (i.e. consist of boys and girls - however dancing groups shall be judged on their performance and not on whether they are mixed.
  6. Dancing groups shall not be allowed to dance in schools of dancing costumes.
    Penalty: - Disqualification.
  7. A timber stage shall be provided at all levels.
  8. If, during a stage performance, a dancer sustains an injury or falls on stage, the performance shall be suspended and if the injured person(s) is/are unable to continue, substitute(s) shall be permitted and the group will be allowed dance again at the end of the respective competition.
