Tipp V Clare
MacDonagh Park was a busy place last Sunday where there was a full house for the Tipperary/Clare game in the Munster Senior League. Well done to Jake Morris and Conor McCarthy who both played in Tipp’s 2 – 22 to 20 point win.
Thanks to everyone who helped out both to prepare the facilities before the game and on the day to ensure that everything ran smoothly. With a crowd of up to 3,500, this was a great joint effort and huge credit to everyone for the part they played in this.

Development Update
The preparatory work is now completed on the new field. This has included the removal of all trees and shrubs, the crushing of all the concrete paths and the recovery of all the service ducting and all the electric lamp posts.
While the original intention was to have the field prepared and sown by the latest the end of September, this unfortunately did not happen with the recent wet weather intervening. The site is now closed until early spring 2023 when hopefully this phase of the develpment will be completed.
The drone footage below on the link below gives a great overview of how MacDonagh Park now looks with the new hurling wall and views of the new field – thanks to Shane Hennessy for this footage.
We are asking that those who still intend to financially support this phase of the project by joining our Membership programme do so as soon as possible by contacting any club officer or committee member for more information. Donations can also be made electronically – bank details below.
Please be sure to include your details if transferring money to this dedicated fundraising account and notify Anne Kennedy or John Tooher to advise of the transfer in order for receipts and membership data to be updated.

Laochra Gael
Congratulations to Tony Tierney who was honoured with a Laochra Gael GAA award this year – the awards were presented in the Dome in Thurles on Sunday last.
Tony hurled for many years with Nenagh Éire Óg and was on the North Final winning senior teams in 1957 and 1964, playing in goals in ’57 and midfield in’ 64. Tony continued to hurl for the club into the 70s and remained involved over the years as coach/selector to many teams when his playing days were over. He was selector on the North Final winning team of 1992 and remains a great supporter of the club attending many club games.
Tony has given great service to Nenagh Éire Óg over the years and this award is richly deserved, a great honour for himself and his family. Congratulations to Tony from all in Nenagh Éire Óg.

JUVENILE NEWS
Nenagh Éire Óg together with Albany Home Decor & A Sportsmans Dream were very proud and delighted to have the 5 local schools attend McDonagh Park last week in the glorious sunshine to play in the 2022 Nenagh Parish Schools Football Blitz. 160 children graced the field and had a wonderful morning of football and fun. Children got to make new friends and indeed have some friendly rivalry with their school pals as pupils were mixed across the teams. Sincere thanks to Tom Gleeson, Shane Hennessy, Pat McCormack & the great John Kennedy for all of the organising. This event was such a success that plans are afoot for a similar Blitz in early 2023 so keep practicing everyone.

U21 Hurling
Well done to our U21 hurlers who defeated Toomevara in Round One of the championship on Sunday last in MacDonagh Park. Trailing by 4 points at half time after playing against the strong breeze, the boys grabbed the initiative straight from the restart and had the game level by the second minute scoring a goal and a point – the goal coming from Ben West. While it continued to be a close contest for most of the second half, Ben West’s second goal midway through the half put a bit of daylight between the sides and the lads ran out winners by 4 points – final score was 2 – 13 to 15 points.
Round 2 is due to be played next weekend, we have a bye in this- we will then play Roscrea in Round 3 which is due to be played on 20th Nov.

Co Final Jubilee Team
Delayed by two years because of Covid, the Nenagh Éire Óg Co Champions of 1995 eventually had their day in Semple Stadium last Sunday when they were honoured by the Tipperary Co Board on Co Final Day.
Events started with a reception in the Dome and continued on with the players and management team taking to the field to be introduced to the crowd between games. Later that evening proceedings continued in the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh where a special function to mark the occasion was organised by the Co Board for the group, their partners and officers of the club. Here each panel member was presented with a framed photograph of the group taken earlier in the day in Semple Stadium, a lovely momento of the day.
Our thanks to Tipperary Co Board for facilitating this special occasion – it was great that all involved could get together to remember the great days of 1995.
Photo shows the players from 1995 and the management team of Pat Joe Whelahan, Liam Heffernan and Billy Flannery. The group were also delighted to be joined on the day by Frances Daly, the team’s physio in 1995.
The introduction of the players in Semple Stadium can be viewed on the Tipperary GAA Twitter page on the link below:

Condolences
We extend our sympathies to the family of Martin O’Meara who passed away earlier this week. Martin, originally from Tyone and living in Naas the last number of years, hurled at all levels with Nenagh Éire Óg. He won many titles with the club at juvenile level but the highlight of his playing days was undoubtedly the winning of a Co minor hurling title in 1969, a first for the club. He went on to hurl throughout the 70s at senior level and retired from hurling in the early 80s. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

This will take place on Sunday nights and we are looking for volunteers to help run this – if you are interested in getting involved one Sunday night per month please contact Matt Lillis 087 6813605 or Anne Kennedy 087 1336024. This should be a great social event for our community through the winter months.
JUVENILE NEWS
Under 9
The boys concluded a fantastic season with great fun and excitement over in Nenagh College last Saturday morning, very well deserved after a great year. This group will now take a break from training for a while until the New Year and recharge the batteries. Any of the boys born in 2013 will move up to the U11 grade when we return next year, those born in 2014 will remain at the U9 grade.
Overall it has been a really positive year, they are a really great bunch who are a pleasure to coach. We hope that over the coming years that every one of the boys will remain with us through all various age groups up along, each achieve their individual potential and eventually line out with our adult teams for many years to come.
It is really important that the boys remain active over the winter months, please encourage a little bit of hurling and Gaelic practice over the winter months too, it all helps!
Finally, thanks to you as parents for your encouragement, bringing the boys to training and to matches from Templemore to Limerick and everywhere in between! It is much appreciated and vital in helping to improve and develop the boys into achieving their potential.
A final word of thanks to Cathal Farrell, Erica Flanagan and their wonderful coaching team whom were tremendous in their organisation, coaching and developing these young stars, sincere thank you to all who helped out in any way during the season.

Ger Gavin Memorial Tournament
The inaugural Ger Gavin Memorial Tournament took place on Saturday last in MacDonagh Park and proved to be a great success. O’Loughlin Gaels won out on the day, just pipping Clooney Quinn in the winner takes all final round. This was a great afternoon of hurling and our thanks to Moycarkey Borris, O’Loughlin Gaels, Clooney Quinn and our own U21 squad for making this happen.

Following the hurling, teams and supporters gathered in the hall where Club Chairman John Tooher spoke of the high regard people all over the GAA had for the late Ger Gavin and how he is sorely missed throughout the GAA Community. Gerry Gavin, on behalf of the Gavin family, thanked all who made this day possible before presenting the trophy to the O’Loughlin Gaels captain.
We would like to thank the Gavin family for their support in organising this tournament and to everyone who helped out to make this the successful and special day it was, a fitting tribute to Ger who worked tirelessly for Nenagh Éire Óg.

Under 7 boys closed their season in great style with a fun morning last Saturday, the highlight of the morning was the boys beating the coaches in a game of tug-of-war! Each boy has improved greatly throughout the year which is brilliant to see. A special mention and good luck to the boys going up to the U9’s next year. Finally, thanks to Alan Kelly and all the coaches who made the year run so smoothly and to the parents/guardians who gave up their Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings to bring the boys training or to matches. We hope to see all the boys and more coming back next year!
