“Who says our country’s soul is dead,
Who says our country’s heart has fled,
Come let him hear the marching tread
Of twice five thousand Hurling Men.”
Focal Buidheachais
Muna mbeadh an fial-chamhar a fuaireamar, ni fheadfhaimis tabhart fa’n sceim seo ata ‘na ghniomh deanta again I mbliana. Beirimid fior-bhuidheachas le gach aoinne a chabhraigh linn agus ta suil again go mbeidh ar ar gcumas tabhairt fa’n a leitheid aris.
The confidence with which the Committee undertook this scheme of a Hurling Competition for the youth of Nenagh – with the attraction of a month’s holiday in the Gaeltacht – has been fully justified.
We wish to record our gratitude to all who have subscribed or in any way helped and encouraged us. Many business firms and private individuals have subscribed generously. Our thanks are also due to the referees who took charge of the games, and in particular we are indebted to Thomas Shanahan and Michael Carey, who came at considerable inconvenience to give their services.
The MacDonagh Park Committee, in addition to a substantial subscription, put the Park at our complete disposal.
Mr. A. Lennox provide us with posters done in special artistic design.
The boys themselves enjoyed the competition and entered into it with zest and enthusiasm and always with the finest spirit of sportsmanship.
Hurling interests have been promoted in the chief town of the Northern Division of Ireland’s greatest hurling county.
The revival of the National Language has been furthered and the national objective of an Irish-Ireland fostered.
We take pride in the achievement, we thank all who have made it possible and we look forward to promoting a similar scheme in the future.
Ireland’s independence, Ireland’s nationality, depends on the enthusiasm and tenacity with which we cling to the traditional features of our Gaelic culture.
